Authoress Notes:
Dream: Hey y'all. This is just an idea that came to me as I was thinking about SWEEP and noticing how beautiful it was outside. Suddenly came a little character agreeing with me, sitting on my dresser in warm shades of brown. "Yeah," she said wistfully. "It is nice out there." We got to talking and she helped me create this idea and story about a girl who leads a high school coven, and runs into Morgan, awed, but at the same time, knowing more. The girl, named Aurelia, decided that this was not going to be the one shot I'd planned. Unfortunately, it will be longer. (Aurelia glares from the corner)
What? I didn't do anything!
Aurelia: This is my story, and it's going to get fully told!
Liam: (My evil muse): Ouch… Beasty….
Dream: Back in your stories! Both of you! (Points) Now!
(they glare and stomp away)
Anyway, read, REVIEW, and enjoy. The first chapter is really bad… But as good as I could get it. Love ya all, Dreamseeker1

Golden Dreams
Chapter One: Of Family Dinners and Mantras
Aurelia was sitting quietly in on her wooden bedroom floor, chanting a mantra in the candlelight, when she heard the knock on her door. She grasped a pentacle necklace tightly in her right hand. Without opening her eyes, or moving her hands, she broke her concentration. "What?" She said listlessly, annoyed.
"Rail? What are you doing?" Her mother's voice called out impatiently from beyond the door.
"I'm busy Ma." She rolled her eyes under her eyelids, sighing heavily.
"Doing what?"
Aurelia answered in an annoyed tone. "That thing you don't like."
"Oh," Her mother sounded dismayed. "Well, could you stop for a while? It's time to eat."
"I'll be down later." Aurelia's tone hadn't yet changed, and she sighed again.
"No. Now. Come on, you have a responsibility to your family, remember? Or did you forget you had a family doing that witchy thing of yours?" Her mother didn't wait for an answer, but walked back down the hallway, leaving Aurelia alone.
Aurelia clucked her tongue on the roof of her mouth and opened her eyes, disgusted as she had to blow out both her black and blue candles. She took her pentacle necklace off and hung it on a small hook on the wooden wall, slipping off her black robe as well before flipping on the light switch and pulling her blue fleece sweatshirt and her blue jeans back on. She quickly put her golden-brown hair into a sloppy bun and headed down out the door -carefully shutting the door behind her- and heading down the oak stairs. She reached the bottom and looked out at her family, who was sitting comfortably at the dining room table. Her older brother Julian, the only one who could see her from that angle, smiled and waved. She smiled in return heading towards the table and sitting down.
"Hello Aurelia, how was your day?" Her father's deep, formal tones greeted her.
"Dad," she said, smiling, "How many times do I have to ask you to not call me that? I go by 'Rail' now." She looked out at the table, leaden with fried chicken, cornbread, mashed potatoes, and rice, and breathed deeply as Julian handed her a plate.
"What's wrong with 'Aurelia'?" Her father had a look and way of speaking that made you think he had only just entered the room.
Her mother, still in her lab coat, took the mashed potatoes and spooned them on her plate. "Nothing's wrong with 'Aurelia'; it's a perfectly beautiful name. I don't see how you don't like it, dear. We picked it for a reason." She smiled towards her daughter.
Aurelia rolled her fiery eyes. "I know, I know. Aurelia means 'Golden', and you thought it fit me perfect." She took a bite out of her chicken.
Julian took a drink and smiled. "Well, it does. Everything about you is golden, except your poor white skin." He smiled, not only with his mouth, but his dark eyes too.
Her father loosened his tie and ate another forkful of rice. "Well, I think that Aurelia has a beautiful name, but if she's determined to change it, I'll not stand in her way." As everyone looked at him, he looked back to his meal without acknowledging them.
Aurelia talked slowly, thinking with furrowed brows. "Thanks, Dad… I, um, think…" Julian shrugged and went back to his meal, as did "Rail" and her mother.
"Well, I don't like it. Her name is Aurelia. Ah-Rail-Ee-Ah." Her mother sounded it out. "Not Rail. Rail sounds like a male's name, not the name of a daughter." No one answered her.
It was Julian who next broke the silence. "So ma, how was the office today?"
His mother sighed. "You know little Jason Hughes, from Weatherton?" They nodded. "I had to re-break his left leg today. It wasn't healing properly. Poor boy, I had to put him out to do it; he was convinced that he had done something wrong and was being punished for it."
Aurelia shook her head. "Oh, poor boy. I feel so sorry for him. He's such a sweet kid."
Julian laughed sarcastically. "Yeah, right. This is the kid you gave you a glass of 'Kool Aid' that was actually leftover water from the watercolors' art class when you babysat for him."
The family laughed as Aurelia shrugged. She turned over to him. "So, how was your day? Did you find an apartment?"
The dark-haired 19-year-old shook his head. "Nah. Didn't have time. Between classes I had job interviews."
And so continued dinnertime at the Dawson household.
Sometime later, Aurelia went back upstairs and re-entered her room, slipping out of her clothes and back into her black silk robe. She let loose her hair and put her pentacle necklace back on. Finding her matches, she lit her black and blue candles and turned out the light, sitting before the flames. She sat "Indian Style," with her hands holding the pentacle charm. She emptied her mind and tried once more to free herself from nightmares.
She whispered the mantra in the darkness:
*
"Goddess of the dark and light,
Save me from the night.
Goddess, Mother, Maiden dear
Release me from my fears.
*
She concentrated hard as she whispered to the darkness, praying it would work, praying the nightmares would visit her no more. The candles -blue for dreams and black for banishment- flickered as the only light in the room from the plate they sat on, casting an eerie glow on the small room. She whispered the words over and over, concentrating on nothing else. Beads of sweat appeared on her forehead after about an hour or two.
From somewhere down the hall from her room a clock chimed, letting the family know it was midnight. Aurelia opened her eyes and jumped upon the sound. She swore quietly at the clock, like she always did, and left the spot she was sitting, discarding her robe on a peg on the wall for brown flannel pajamas. As she turned the covers down of her bed by the small open window, she prayed, "Mother Goddess and God Divine, let this work." Tears filled her eyes. "I want to sleep in peace."
A sharp wind blew through the opened window and blew out the sputtering flames of the candles, leaving the girl in total darkness.
