A/N: I'm a big Hermione/Ron fan... don't get me wrong, Hermione will NEVER end up with Krum. xP But look! My very first Harry Potter fanfic up here! I was having problems with this before... it kept saying it couldn't find the story. :shrugs: So I'm going to try again to make this work. :crosses fingers that it won't fail on me this time:

Longing for Love

To perhaps someone who only sent her a quick look they wouldn't see anything special. They would look and just perhaps see a girl with rather bushy brown hair who wasn't really worth a second glance. But to Ron Weasley, when he caught a glimpse of her, his heart melted.

Hermione Granger was oblivious to the desired stares she attracted from him, she'd given up on Ron sometime in their fourth year. There had been a point in her life when she'd longed for him, too, but that time had passed, and now Ron was forced to watch what he missed out on by waiting.

He envied and hated the international Quidditch player that he had once admired beyond any measure. It seemed only Viktor Krum saw the same thing Ron did every time he laid eyes on her. Her brilliance that was unsurpassable by any their age, her sweet (even if sometimes impatient) personality that you couldn't help but adore if you took the time to know her, and... just everything. Everything about her was flawless....

Ron was thinking all of this sadly as he watched the two on the sunny May day of their seventh year; Krum had taken a liking to visiting her on weekends when she didn't have classes. Even from the distance he had situated himself, he could see her bright smile that made his stomach flip-flop. But that smile wasn't directed to him... oh no, it was directed to the undeserving man next to her.

Why couldn't she have left him? All the years he had known her... he deserved to be the one that pulled her into a warm embrace. Ron switched his gaze to the grass, he didn't want to see them being that affectionate, but he knew they were kissing... he didn't have to look up to tell.

He's the luckiest person alive, Ron thought gloomily. He had been hoping for so long their flame would die down, that she'd remember about him, how much she adored Ron. Ron had always been there for her, Krum didn't save her from a troll.

He saved her from merpeople in the second task of the Triwizard Tournament....

Dammit. That wasn't fair. If Ron had been given the chance he would do the same! God, he loved her but he'd never get his chance. She was smitten with some stupid Bulgarian player, he wasn't worth it! Any of it! He didn't deserve to get that attention!

Ron chanced a look up... they were just talking now, Hermione had always been more reserved, she wasn't the kind of person to make out for long periods of time on end, for which he was grateful. He wouldn't have been able to stand it if he witnessed that.

They were making their way to the castle... he hoped she was quite as reserved as he thought she was. Harry was heading over to him, and Ron was forced to stop thinking about her. He stood up to go greet his best friend, never wanting more in his life to be what he hated – Viktor Krum.
