A mistake was made.
It wasn't 2008, but 2009.
"You said time travel spells were surprisingly easy, but you couldn't even do that could you," shouted Cordelia, "What if it's been a month by the time we get back, our parents will be pissed!"
"This is my first time! I'm sure I'll do better next time. I'm only off by a couple months anyway!"
Giles had rented a house for them to stay in during the little misadventure (they had stayed in a hotel until the renting process was completed.)
He was starting to wish he rented a house with thicker walls.
"Willow, Cordelia... I... look Willow I need to buy some food so we don't starve. Cordelia, stay here and try not to scream at everyone else," Giles said, clearly on edge.
It had been months since her death, revival, and second possession.
She fucking hated it.
Unlike the last demon to posses her, Drusilla had a physical body of her own to look after, meaning she could only devote around half her energy to controlling Jenny's body, so Jenny still had some control.
However, Drusilla was a vampire, meaning back in 1998 she already slept during the day, so she could allow her physical body to rest during the day now as well. That meant more of her energy went towards controlling Jenny's body.
She had learned over the months how to hide her thoughts from Dru, and how to communicate with her through her thoughts, since she was quite literally in her head.
She had changed physically to. Not from being possessed, but from who possessed her. Dru had had Jenny's hair grow out longer than usual, most likely to resemble the hair Drusilla's physical body has. Drusilla was also obsessed with makeup. Jenny figured having to stay inside until most stores were already closed made it difficult to get, so she now overused it.
Giles and Willow had found some good produce and bread at the nearby Walmart, and Willow had demanded they stopped at Starbucks afterwards. Giles had never been much of a coffee drinker.
And now that it reminded him of her-
He wasn't going to think about her. He needed to focus on the children, and the situation at hand. Drusilla, or possibly some other creature, was in the future. The future slayer might have been able to deal with this, if they lived nearby, but this situation was from their time, so it only felt right for them to handle it.
Suddenly, a strange woman came up.
She immediately struck Giles as ... odd.
"Are you new here?" She asked, very bluntly.
"Yeah, well, we're not here for long, we're just visiting but-" Willow started, Giles cutting her off.
"This town isn't that big, but it doesn't seem like the kind of town where you would know everyone."
"Yeah, but I can just tell when someone isn't used to this place," the woman said, a smile on her face.
Her eyes, however.
They had this... unreadable look in them. Sometimes you could see emotions through the eyes you couldn't see through the rest of the face, and Giles was used to using that to his advantage as a Watcher.
"The name is Cheryl D'Alessandro," the woman stated, her gaze glaring into Giles's soul.
He felt unnerved throughout their entire interaction.
"Willow Rosenberg!" Said Willow, pretty cheerfully. Giles was shocked she wasn't the least bit nervous, as she was usually pretty perceptive.
Maybe it's just him, he had trouble trusting anything now.
"Rupert Giles, but most people just call me Giles.." he stated, nonchalantly cleaning his glasses.
"Well then, Rupert, what brings you to our town?" She asked smugly, glaring into his eyes, a smile still plastered to her face.
He narrowed his eyes and stood up.
"Personal business," he informed her, his words laced with venom.
"Damn, soft spot huh?" The woman, Cheryl, had asked, still staring at him in a way he couldn't decipher.
"Ms. D'Alessandro if you wouldn't mind I am trying to have a private conversation here," Giles nearly shouted, still trying to remain calm.
The woman had another strange look in her eyes, an almost nostalgic yet smug glare.
She was an anomaly.
"About what? This is a public space I have a r-" she suddenly cut off, not even trying to continue. A strange look flashed through her eyes, a look that unnerved Giles.
"Ahem, I have business to attend to," she said in a strange voice.
This "Cheryl" may have been a seemingly arrogant woman, but that last part of the conversation, the one where she finally left, was the most unnerving piece.
