CROSSOVER
Prologue
It was there, than it wasn't. It was there, than it wasn't. Never there long enough for him to get an accurate reading on it. The light from the screen created shadows on the keys of the keyboard as he drummed his fingers. He had been monitoring this event for over a month now and he still had nothing to show for it. When he first started to detect the anomalies, he thought them to just be random occurrences, glitches even, but now, he new there was more to it.
Tilting back ever so slightly in his high backs chair, Batman came out of his thoughts and opened a window on his screen.
"Oracle."
"Well hello to you too." Came the cheeky reply.
" Have you been monitoring the deep space satellites recently?'
"When don't I monitor them?" she feigned being hurt.
"Right." He was all business, "Have you noticed anything out of the usual?"
Oracle didn't respond right away. He could make out the steady taping as her fingers danced over the keyboard. "What exactly am I looking for here?" He was about to respond when she cut. "Wait. NASA has been recording a series of what they think to be small black holes. Nothing is for certain as of yet. They have some data collected, but the black holes haven't been opening for more than a few minutes at a time, therefore, no thorough scans can be done on them."
"Black holes?" Batman said under his breath and he contemplated what he had just been told.
"Yeah, now there's something you don't see everyday." Oracle mused.
"How close to Earth have they been appearing?"
He could hear her typing again. "The first ones were occurring approximately three-hundred thousand kilometers from Earth. That was about 3 months ago, when the long- range satellites first started to pick them up. Since then they have been steadily getting closer. The closet one has opened was about 200 kilometers from Earth."
"How big are they?"
"Not big enough to do any kind of damage, but big enough for someone to take notice of. Do you think they could be something? Some alien race coming for a visit?" she asked.
"Wouldn't be surprised." He smirked. Leaning back in his chair again he began to drum his fingers on the padded armrest. "Send what you have and keep monitoring these black holes, I want to know when another one occurs, I want all the details."
"Sure thing. Say hi to the gang for me."
"I will, good night Barbra. Batman out." Closing the line, he stood and made his way where he had the Batmobile parked. The engines road to life as he keyed the ignition and the tired squealed as Batman raced towards Gotham and another nights patrol.
