Starting with a quote:

"People always say that, when you love someone, nothing in the world matters.

But that's not true, is it?

You know, and I know, that when you love someone,

Everything in the world matters a little bit more.

~Jodi Picoult.

Clary's head throbbed. It was like someone had lit fireworks in her brain . On top of this, her shoulders hurt like hell and it was driving her crazy.

She sat up, immediately regretting it.

"Oww..."

It felt like hundreds of stones hit her head, all at the same time. She put her hand on her head. Or at least tried to. That's when she realised she was not alone. Somebody was with her. Somebody holding her hand.

"Oh! Thank the Angel you're awake!"

"How- how long have I been out?"

"You've been out all night and its noon. I had no idea New York Iblis has more power. Luckily, Magnus was here, so your recovery was quick. You scared everyone, Clary," Nick was saying, as he loosened her hand and sat straight.

"Where's everyone?" Clary asked but her voice seemed a bit different.

Nick noticed this and brought some water, "They went to sleep after Magnus said that you'll wake up eventually."

"Where are you going?" Clary asked.

"To get others," Nick replied.

"Its alright. I feel sleepy already."

Then she was out.

When Clary woke up again, she was surprised to see she was in her own bedroom. She touched her calf and felt no pain, only the nagging sensation of the demon's bite. Her memory of the previous night was vague, but not so vague to remember hallucinating about him. It was a mystery really, how two person could look and act so much alike that they feel like the same person. When she first saw Nick, she wasn't quite sure if she was hallucinating. But yesterday night, in her out-of-mind state, she thought she was back with him again, fighting with him, fighting for him . She thought about the moment Nick touched her cheek- how could she forget the way his touch feels? In her unconscious state, she was brought back to the past, and it had felt real.

With the memories, came back tears. She wiped them away and went for a hot bath to warm her sore skin and her sour heart. When she came out of the bathroom, she was surprised to see Simon sitting on her bed.

"What are you doing here, Simon?"

Simon faked hurt, "So much hostility for bringing you food."

Clary grinned. Same old Simon. She took a bite of tacos, "I could've came out naked you know."

"In that case, you would've locked the door," Simon responded. "So, you're feeling alright?"

"Yup. It would've been great if you had brought in more food though."

Simon shook his head, "Sorry. Max ate everything."

"They're here?"

"Yes. Alec and Max are here. Magnus went to Idris again." Simon's words made her anxious. "Why?"

"Um...I don't know. I think he's just going to the Academy. Him and Alec were talking about something like that. No serious problem though."

She pressed her lips. Simon continued: "You know Nick was with you all night. When Isabelle saw she went berserk."

"I guess she doesn't like him much," Clary shrugged. But her mind was reeling to midnight, why was Nick with her?

"True. I just don't know why though. She keeps avoiding his name whenever I try to ask her. Anyway, he seems like a good guy," Simon said approvingly.

"You're saying?" Clary raised her eyebrows.

"Well, he seems like a good guy and besides he cares about you." Clary opened her mouth to retort but Simon cut in, " Before you say anything- I think Nick could help you move on. Live your life how he would've wanted you to live, Clary."

Clary looked down at her hands, the half-eaten food forgotten. Simon didn't understand- not like Alec did. He didn't know how much the mention of him hurts. He was just trying to make her feel better. Yet every single second without him feels...nothing. Every feeling seemed to have abandoned her. She felt frustrated all the time.

Now, after Simon left, she took her sketchbook and began to draw. She tried to draw but her mind staggered. Finally, she felt her eyes become heavy, then next thing she knew, she was in a wasteland, lying on her back. She looked around and then she saw it. A grotesque demon. He was battling it with a burned out Seraph. He hit the demon and it fell then he came running toward her.

"Clary? Are you alright?" He asked trying to help her to her feet.

Clary hugged him tightly, "I thought I lost you."

"My heart is your heart, remember? When you are alive, I am alive too. You could never loose me. I go where you go, you understand?" Jace kissed her forehead.

That's when she saw it. A demon plunging its tail to his back.

Clary screamed.

Will he ever be able to navigate correctly in these walls? Well, not soon enough. When Nick finally found kitchen there were some left out bread. He had been hungry since he didn't eat lunch and also because he had been in the training room for Angel knows how long. He had gone straight to the weapons room after Clary had been taken back to her room. Simon told him she woke up. But Nick didn't go. Partly because he wasn't ready- for what? He didn't know, and partly Isabelle would burn him alive by her glare if he neared her room.

He walked towards his room, suddenly weary of everything. Since he came here, he wasn't feeling all that well. There was this nagging headache and he'd been having weird dreams. He ran his hand through his hair. That's when he heard a scream.

He rushed towards Clary's room and what she saw chilled him to his bones. Here was a girl wailing in agony because of a nightmare.

"No no no no no no please no"

"No please don't leave me, Jace. I need you. We need you"

"No this can't. Jace! Jace! wake up! Please"

"No-"

Nick stood just for a second before he sprang into action. He took Clary's thrashing hands in his and held her, "Clary, wake up. It's not true. It's just a nightmare. Clary."

Clary gasped. She looked up at him, then she burst out crying, "I'm so so sorry. I'm s-sorry. I shouldn't have let that happen. It was my fault. I can't. Jace, I'm sorry."

"Shh. It's alright. It was a nightmare. I'm here now. And it's not your fault, Clary. Nothing is your fault. You hear me? Nothing." He tried to comfort her.

Nickolas had never comforted anyone before. Certainly not a girl. But something about Clary made it easier to him. Being around her made everything easier. When he saw her collapse that night, he felt himself deflate. He wanted to kill anything that hurt her. Seeing her like this, miserable and wrecked, pulled his stomach in a tight knot. He wanted to help her overcome this. He wanted to make her feel alive.

But not when she thinks he's her dead boyfriend.

"Where are you going?" came a question when Nick untangled himself from her.

"To my room."

"No," Clary murmured, clutching his hands, "Stay."

Nick didn't mean for it to come out, but it did and he can't take it back. "I'm not Jace, Clary"

Clary looked confused and said, "I know that. You're Nick."

"You still want me to stay?" Nick asked.

"I- Look, I just - forget I asked you anything, okay?" Clary said turning away.

He contemplated for half a minute.

"Uh Clary?"

"Yeah?''

"Leave me some space, will ya?"

It was a dream that felt so real, made her heart squeeze and flutter and do flip-flops consecutively, and because the dream was so real that she didn't want to wake up to reality, to be disappointed when reality is a nightmare - making her wish for it to end. So she held on tight to the dream- a dream where she was with Jace.

She pulled him closer to her.

Wrapped her arms around him.

Never letting him go away.

Buried her head in the crook of his neck.

Inhaled his scent of copper and lemon.

Then, amazingly, his arms were around her.

That was the night Clary slept peacefully after a long time.

It was soon spoiled on the very next day, when two new arrivals came in: Nick's sister Anna and his girlfriend, Violet Clearwater.
