Chapter 1: Fuck The News
Tanso - Age 13
A bell rang as the store's door opened and closed. Exiting the store is Tanso Kazuki. In his hand is a can of his favourite carbonated beverage, Pupsi. He cracked open the cold one and placed the aluminium to his lips, allowing the liquid goodness to enter his stomach.
Since the awakening of his quirk, Tanso gained a bit of an ego. He went and beat up anyone who did him wrong, adult, student or other. He's come to call this quirk Abyssal Weave, from its pitchblack colouration, its indestructibility and its woven make. His comes with many perks, for instance, despite his entire body now being made of the weave, they keep their original properties while gaining the woven state and indestructibility. Then there's the fact that the quirk auto activates in order to protect Tanso, he can still activate it manually too. Between the crushing power and the defensive power his quirk gives him, Tanso considers himself the strongest there is. Though he does wonder if he could tank an All Might punch. He's never had a chance to test his quirk on anything particularly strong, like a car running him over or tanking an explosion, but as of right now, he hasn't been hurt once since the awakening.
Like fucking fate, just as Tanso was finishing his last chug of Pupsi, a lady screamed out in fear. "AHHH!" It was a scream in fear for herself but a fear for another. Tanso followed the lady's sight and found a kid running across the road to her turned away, ignorant father. Coming down the road however was a honking, heavy hauler of an armoured truck. An out of control honking, heavy hauler of an armoured truck, with no driver and a small armada of cop cars and a hero chasing it. Tanso was pretty sure the truck was swearing as well.
The child just stopped and stared at the truck. As if on instinct, Tanso dropped his empty can and sped into the street. He didn't have time to grab the kid and jump away. All he could do was cover the child in his woven embrace. He wrapped his arms around the kid, with his own back facing the oncoming truck. What better way to test your own invincibility than jumping in front of an oncoming armoured truck.
"WHAT THE FUCK!" Screamed the truck.
"AHHH!" Screamed a particularly girly sounding man.
*WEEWOO!* Goes the cop cars.
And *CRASH!* Goes the truck.
As the truck made impact with the abyssal weave, it was lifted off of the ground, nearly stopping mid head stand before slamming back down to the tarmac. The cop cars and hero that were chasing the truck quickly surrounded the accident. The truck groaned in pain as a ghost-like man slinked out of the cabin's walls. They were quickly surrounded with weapons and quirk restraints. The hero named Loony Balloony held the restraints of the villain as he held his arm up in victory. The civilians cheered the balloon hero as he took almost all the credit.
"MY BABY!" The sudden despaired filled cry caught everyone's attention, they turned and saw the ignorant father from before rushing to the front of the truck. "YUMINO!"
"She's fine!" Came a pained voice from. "Like a deer in headlights. You really are stupid kid." Tanso slowly began to rise, jolting a little bit. His jacket and shirt had ripped at the back allowing all to see the large, black crack running down his back. Oozing out of the crack was blood. He stood up with his back still facing the crowd. "Y'know. I really hate heroes." He said with frustration. "The moment they're on the scene and the villains are tied, everyone forgets the victim. A small child nearly died and nobody even cared, 'cept her father."
He turned around showcasing the only part of him that wasn't black, the green irises of his eyes, his sunglasses falling off him during the crash. Tanso began hobbling towards the hero. As he did a couple civilians tried to help him but he told them to "fuck off." and waved them away. "Listen here Loony. A hero's job is to protect those who cannot protect themselves. NOT, seek attention." Loony Balloony looked like he wanted to object but Tanso didn't let him. "Your quirk allows you to make anything you blow into expand like a balloon. You can then mould that balloon easily. So tell me, what the fuck were you thinking when you decided that instead of sitting in the police car, YOU BLEW YOUSELF UP AND TIED YOUSELF TO THE BACK OF THE FUCKING CAR, AND HAD THEM PARADE YOU AROUND THE CITY LIKE A FUCKING FLOAT! You may not be known for you agility but you certainly ain't dumb. Or so I thought."
Tanso failed to notice the cameras and phones filming his every word. "Fucks like you are what give heroes a bad name. Being a hero shouldn't be about who makes it to the top fucking number. It shouldn't be about fame or money. Back in the day, being a hero meant breaking the law to save someone. It wasn't a fucking profession, it was a duty you gave yourself." The crowd, complete of cops, civs and the hero watched in stunned silence. "There are two kinds of assholes I hate with a burning passion. Heroes like you, and those who consider themselves better then others because of a fucking quirk. I may be a hypocrite, but I fucking promise you. I'll use my quirk to fix this hero based society."
He fell down on his knees, his hands holding him up from the cold ground. His breathing was heavy but the bleeding had begun to slow. The abyssal weave had begun to patch up his back, weaving in and out of itself, like a person making a straw hat. It was quite the sight to behold really. Self healing quirks were quite rare, nevermind one that allows the person to tank an armoured truck and then heal just moments later.
People wanted to call an ambulance but once again, Tanso told them to "fuck off" as he stood up and began to limp away, leaving the onlookers stunned in silence. His limp slowly turned into a normal walk as he picked up his now cracked sunglasses.
Before he got too far he heard a shout from the little girl. "THANK YOU!" She shouted. He stopped for a moment but soon continued his walk without so much as a look back.
Before him now stood the orphanage. The old brick building which he was pretty sure used to be a school. The bricks were all old and dingy and the paint on the inside didn't fare much better. He opened the door and was greeted by the noise of energetic children, playing and running around.
Most of the kids at the orphanage were quirkless with the exception of a few more "rough" kids and those who haven't reached the age for their quirk to awaken. The kids with quirks tended to be above the quirkless kids, lording their power over them and playing a little too rough. Tanso would always defend the quirkless, having been in their shoes for most of his life. He wasn't necessarily friendly, but he did patch them up when needed, almost as if he was staff.
Speaking of the staff. They were useless. They just sat around and did their own thing, only doing their job when their boss told them too. The owner of the orphanage is named Toma. He's actually a decent guy. Toma never did Tanso wrong but didn't really do him right either. Toma would cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for the tykes and even clean up and take them to school. The problem was that he was too focused on the job. He didn't see the kids and kids but as work.
He walked down the halls of the orphanage, dodging the children and the toys they left out. Finding a bin he shoved his ripped jacket and shirt in and went up to the bedroom. He shared the room with the other kids, bunk beds lining the circular room, each with two chests for storage. He removed his sunglasses and flopped face first onto his old mattress, allowing his back to breath as it still hurt. He closed his eyes and slowly began drifting into sleep filled slumber.
When he awoke the next morning the pain in his back was all gone. "Best add regeneration to the list of abilities my quirk has." He said groggily to no one but him. He clambered to the floor and noticed that the other beds were empty. Normally he was the first to rise and shine. He must have been really tired after the whole truck incident. He changed out of yesterday's clothing and went to freshen up in the bathroom.
As he descended the stairs he heard the tv, the news was on as far as he could tell. As he entered the living room he found his previous guess to be correct. Sitting on the sofa was one of the staff. If he didn't risk being kicked out of the orphanage, he'd kick that guy's ass. Tanso vaulted the couch and sat down on the opposite side of the couch. The recent villain encounter news was on. It basically just goes after recent villain attacks and stuff. He sighed and rested his head on his hand. It was just a bunch of mumbo jumbo about small crimes complete with a shot of the hero standing proud with the villain in restraints. Typical. People were hurt and no one really cares.
~"And to end today's news. We have had an armoured truck robbery from yesterday afternoon."~ This piqued Tanso's interest. He probably would have expected this to be on tv.
~"An armoured truck carrying large amounts of gold bars was stolen by the villain known as Polterheist. Luckily Loony Balloony was around during the heist. He valiantly chased down the armoured truck while tied to the back of a police car. We have video of the chase, here."~ The news channel began to show a video of Loony Balloony being flown like a kite while the cops chased the villain. Tanso clicked his tongue.
~"It was quite the sight when I saw it live. It made me chuckle. As seen here, the villain's reckless driving endangered many people and destroyed many things. He very nearly ran over a young girl, if not for the quick action of a youngman."~ Oh fuck… It showed him dropping his can and running to protect the girl.
"Yo! Kazuki, that's you!" The staff member named Cole said, with surprise. "HEY EVERYONE! KAZUKI IS ON TV!" Oh bigger fuck. In but a moment, the children and the other member of staff named Hurina, as well as Toma came rushing in, just in time to see the slow mo replay.
~"Just look at him go! Like a true hero, jumping in front of the truck."~
"KAZUKI'S ON TV! KAZUKI'S ON TV!" The children jumped up and down. While he wasn't friends with them, they did like him. Like an edgy big brother.
"Kazuki. That's amazing!" Toma praised him. "I didn't think you could take such a hit!"
They all continued to watch as the news continued and Tanso tried his best to ignore everyone.
~"But this little hero is much more than one would think."~ OH BIGGEST FUCK! ~"As people celebrated the capture of Polterheist, this young man had other thoughts."~ The tv now showed him, standing up with the large, black crack and blood running down his back. Toma looked at his shirt covered back and Tanso pretended not to notice his gaze. ~"He began to denounce Loony Balloony and heroes in general. Watch this footage that has been circulating social media, and be warned, there is a lot of swearing but we've done our best to censor it."~ They switched to footage from someone's Chirp account. It showed everything he said. For the entire duration of the video, Toma was giving him a look, a look that said "we have to talk." Shit. Tanso knew what Toma wanted to talk about, it wasn't the first time they talked about this.
The video didn't last too long and once it was over it was back to the reporter. ~"Wow… He may not be talented in the speech department but he certainly got folk thinking. This child's words have sparked debates over the internet regarding heroes."~ now the screen started to roll through discussions relating to his outburst. As to be expected, the majority disagreed with what he said but there were those who agreed as well. Tanso couldn't help but smile at the fact that there were more like him.
A few minutes later Tanso sat in Toma's office. There wasn't much in terms of decoration. A small bookcase with a few books of various contents, a filing cabinet undoubtedly full of paperwork, a painting of an old lighthouse and a desk with a computer and other bits and bobs.
Toma had asked him to meet in his office after the news. He wasn't nervous or anything, talks like this happened decently often since his quirk awakened. He still remembers the face of Toma when he came back that day. He sat him down and asked him what happened. Upon hearing about his quirk awakening he talked about great power and great responsibility. Tanso had heard that saying from an old movie, though coming from Toma it sounded more… forced. Like he said it for the sake of saying it. Toma would get called into the school every now and then to discuss his behaviour. Tanso mellowed out a bit after becoming the king of the place, less violent but still egotistical. Oh and then there was the royal brawl for the crown in highschool. Every year in his highschool the students host a fight for the title. There were bets and everything and then everyone lost their bets as he invaded the ring and knocked everyone the fuck out. Ahh, good times.
Tanso was knocked out of his thoughts as his guardian entered the room and closed the wooden door behind him, moving around his desk and sitting in his chair. He had his hands pressed against each other and his head resting on them, facing his desk. He took a long sigh and spoke. "What were you thinking?" He asked.
"The truth."
"The truth?" Toma looked at Tanso seeing the lax expression on his face. "We've talked about this, Kazuki."
"And I never agreed to anything."
"You told me you would at least try to keep that to yourself."
"I did. That jackass deserved it." Tanso put more emphasis on jackass.
Toma leaned back in his black office chair and sighed again. "Kazuki, I know how you feel about heroes but like it or not they save lives. They don't deserve that."
"Last time I checked they gave my life up, leaving me on your doorstep."
"They died protecti-"
"PROTECTING WHAT!" Tanso cut him off. "THEY DIED PROTECTING THEIR NUMBERS ON A FUCKING CHART. THEY FUCKING LEFT ME, A 4 YEAR OLD CHILD ALONE! THERE WASN'T ANY CIVILIANS IN THE AREA! THERE WAS NO NEED FOR ALL THAT FUCKING FLAIR!" He stood up from his chair and stormed over to the door. He looked back to Toma with tears in his eyes "I don't need this shit right now." He left the room slamming the door behind him.
'Sup, you good? I hope so. I appreciate you reading these. Knowing someone is out there enjoying these is enough for me to keep going on these stories.
Now you know just how strong his quirk is and oh boy do I got plans of developing it.
The romance options haven't changed except for the fact I forgot to exclude children, we don't do that here. Still moving on with Jiro in my head, so you're gonna need a good argument why you option should out weigh my own. :)
Luv ya, you out dated memes.
