Christmas had come, and Inko was busy in the kitchen cooking while Hisashi finished wrapping the presents for the tree in the living room by the time the two boys woke up.
"Merry Christmas, you two!" Inko sang as Tomura and Izuku walked into the kitchen. "Breakfast is on the table - I made it extra special!"
"Merry Christmas," Izuku mumbled back as he took a moment to yawn.
Tomura sat down at the table and stared at the elaborate tray. Eggs, rice, fish, miso, fresh salad with what seemed like a tangy dressing - it was dressed to look like snowflakes or little wrapped gifts, and it all smelled delicious.
Then he turned his attention to the steaming mug next to the tray, raising a near-invisible brow at the brightly-colored stick sticking out of the liquid.
"Hot chocolate?" He asked.
"Mhm!" The older woman nodded excitedly. "It's been a tradition for as long as I can remember for us to have hot chocolate with peppermint for Christmas morning!"
"Mom makes it the best," Izuku quietly added with a happy grin as he picked up the chopsticks. "Thanks!"
Slowly, Tomura took his own utensil - a fork. Nodding his head, he murmured his own thanks as he began eating.
Flavors burst in his mouth, sweet and tangy and bland all together, and he hummed in appreciation.
"This is… really good," he observed once he swallowed his mouthful.
The beaming smile from Inko made him duck his head in embarrassment.
"Morning, boys," Hisashi greeted as he strode into the kitchen, pressing a kiss to Inko's forehead as he reached to put the scissors away. "Merry Christmas."
"You know, I was just thinking," Inko mused, making him pause, "this is going to be the first Christmas as a family again since Izuku was a baby."
Tomura and Izuku looked over; the former with curiosity, and the latter with quiet regret… and was that a hint of bitterness?
The man hummed, glancing his son's way. "It is, isn't it?"
Izuku said nothing, instead turning back to his food.
"Are the others still coming?" Inko asked instead, attempting to break the uneasy silence settling over the kitchen.
"I notified Kurogiri last night," he confirmed with a nod. "He'll be dropping them off in a couple of hours."
"Excellent." Smiling up at him, she handed him a mug of chocolate. "Here's your payment."
"I don't need sweets when you're standing right there." Hisashi winked her way before taking a sip of the piping hot liquid. After a moment, he made a noise of appreciation. "Mmm. Just the same as I remembered."
Christmas music played through the house as Inko bustled about here and there. Hisashi and the boys had settled on the couches, Tomura and Hisashi on one and Izuku on the other.
"Inko, slow down," the man called in amusement.
The woman didn't even look back as she replied, "We have guests coming, Hisashi! I can't just sit around and wait!"
Shaking his head, the man gestured to Izuku. "Why are you sitting alone, son?"
The teenager shrugged his shoulders loosely, turning to look at the window. Though the landscape was blank with snow, the Christmas spirit had seemingly captured the city - lights and streamers decorated the street and twinkled merrily as if struck with the same joy as the people.
A gasp from the hall made them look up. "Oh, you're here! Come in, come in!"
"Wooooooow!" Himiko's delighted voice made Tomura look away, concealing an amused curl of his lip. "It's so pretty in here!"
After a brief commotion in the hall, the rest of the League walked in and began taking seats.
Himiko made a beeline straight for Izuku and wrapped her arms around his, hugging it tightly to her chest with a happy grin. Jin sat next to her, having put on civilian attire for once. The mask remained on, concealing whatever his expression was.
Shuichi took his seat next to Tomura, the two exchanging nods of acknowledgement before Tomura scooted over a bit to afford him more room.
Atsuhiro and Dabi remained standing for a few moments before both Inko and Kurogiri brought in dining chairs at the end of each couch for them to use.
"Right!" She began with a soft clap of her hands. "Now that everyone is here, we should get started handing out the gifts."
Picking up one, she read the tag and smiled. "Himiko, this is for you, from us."
The girl perked up at her name, and when she took the gift she looked around the room before picking at the paper.
"Jin," Inko said next, and handed him his.
"Thanks," he murmured, turning the present over and over.
One by one everyone got their gifts, and once everyone was holding a present Inko sat down by the tree.
"You can open them now," Hisashi announced.
The soft Christmas music playing from the speaker by the TV was drowned out by the sounds of shredding paper and voices.
Toga opened hers first, and gasped in delight as she pulled out a cat-themed beanie and gloves. "Kitty gloves and a kitty hat! Thank you!"
"I saw them in the store and I immediately thought of you," Inko laughed.
"Wow!" Jin exclaimed next, pulling out a thick winter coat. "This is… too much!"
"We know how cold you get," Hisashi said next, a charming smile on his face.
"A new laptop?!" Izuku gripped his mother's arm in surprise. "Mom…"
"Since yours got… well, stolen, I figured there would be no better back-to-school present than a replacement." She giggled as he pressed a kiss to her cheek. "You're welcome. Merry Christmas."
"A new suit. Nicely tailored, too." Hisashi's eyes twinkled as he held up the stark-black clothing, the suit bag crinkling with the movement. "Thank you, dear."
Shuichi stared at his matching scarf and winter coat with the same surprise before looking up and catching the mother's eye.
"You… didn't have to," he said slowly.
"I wanted to," she answered. "Nobody deserves to go around cold in the winter. I know it can be hard for you. I don't want it to be harder."
He opened his mouth to reply, but was cut off by Atsuhiro holding up a small item. "What a gift! Where on earth did you find this?"
"Best jeweler in Besupin." Hisashi leaned closer to see. "I assume you like it?"
"Who wouldn't? This is of impeccable quality." Atsuhiro studied the gleaming gem in the center of the brooch before affixing it to his front. "Thank you, truly. I will treasure this."
Tomura stared at his gift, stunned, while Dabi held up a sweater with an unimpressed look.
"You know I'm just gonna end up burning this accidentally, right?" He questioned.
"We made sure to request fire Quirk-proof material," Hisashi answered.
He lowered it back into the box with a contemplative look, before sighing.
"Everyone deserves to get nice things," Inko softly spoke up, catching his attention. She smiled. "You do, too."
He didn't say a word as he packed it back in and set the box near his feet. His expression was blank, but his eyes betrayed the deep thought he was in.
"You…" Tomura finally spoke, catching everyone's attention. "You… got these?"
He held up a pair of black gloves. They seemed to be of good quality latex and a softer material inside, and were missing the thumb and index sleeves.
"They're gaming gloves," Inko perked up. "Now when you wear them you won't have to worry about accidentally dusting things!"
The young man's shocked gaze turned to her. "Why?"
"I've been observing how you do things with your hands, and I feel so bad that you can't hold things with all five fingers." Clasping her own hands together, she gestured to the gloves. "Why don't you try them on?"
"I'll help you," Hisashi volunteered, waving him over.
"While you're trying them on, young master, dinner is served." Kurogiri's voice boomed around the living room as he appeared in the doorway, holding two huge buckets of KFC.
"Oh!" Inko handed a present to Izuku, who dutifully got up and set the small wrapped gift atop one of the buckets. "Here's your present, Kurogiri. Thank you for agreeing to get dinner!"
Twisting around, she reached to take one of Tomura's arms and hugged it tight, making him freeze up.
"I'm glad you get to spend the holidays with us," she said softly.
"Whew," Inko heaved a sigh as the last Tupperware was given out as leftovers. She sagged against the couch and rubbed her temples wearily. "That was quite the day, huh?"
"Now we've gotta take all of it back down," Izuku agreed tiredly. "Yay."
"It's not so bad. At least it will seem faster than putting them up." She shrugged.
Hisashi stepped into the room with a flourish, showing off his new suit. "How do I look, honey?"
Both Midoriyas glanced up at him, before Inko's eyes softened, as if remembering something nostalgic, and she got up from the couch, walking over to fuss with the fabric.
"It looks better on you than I imagined," she replied softly, straightening the tie and patting it firmly. "Do you like it?"
"Any present from you is one worth appreciating."
Izuku looked away as his father ran a hand across her cheek, and spotted a small wrapped box half-pushed out of view, under the tree. Picking it up, he noticed the tag reading "Inko".
"Hey, Mom?" He piped up, lifting the box. "You never opened yours."
Both parents turned to look, and her eyes widened. "Oh… I didn't, did I?"
"That was my gift," Hisashi added, gently pushing her towards the tree. "Go on, I promise you'll like it."
Taking a step towards her son, she accepted the box and inspected it. It was scarcely larger than his hand, wrapped in shiny green paper and tied with a pretty silver ribbon.
Tugging at the end of the ribbon, she tore at the paper along the edge and carefully pulled out the box from it.
Brow furrowed, she lifted the lid - and gasped sharply.
"Hisashi," she started, looking up at him in alarm. "When did you… how did you…?!"
"What?" Izuku leaned in to look, and his eyes went wide. "That looks… really expensive!"
"Do you like it?" Hisashi prodded.
"I do, but…" biting her lip, the woman stared at the necklace with worry. "How on earth did you afford this? This is gold!"
The man chuckled, stepping closer to take the box. "I have my ways," he answered mysteriously. "Here, try it on."
Inko stood still as he lifted the jewelry from the box, a dangling gold chain with small circular diamonds all along it, ending in a pretty rose done in ruby gemstones with emerald leaves.
Carefully, he rested it along her neck, and when she pulled her hair away from her nape, clasped it.
Inko looked down and back up, wringing her hands together. "Is it… too showy? Too much?"
"It's beautiful," Hisashi praised.
"Not really your style," Izuku hummed. "It would look good with a dress or something, I guess."
"Oh, I'm not wearing this every day!" Shaking her head vigorously, she unclasped the necklace and gingerly placed it back in the box. "It's lovely, thank you Hisashi, but it's simply too expensive and nice to be an everyday item."
The man paused for a few seconds, and Izuku dared look over to gauge his reaction. He was calm, almost unphased, and he smiled indulgently as she set the box on the couch.
"I wouldn't expect anything less humble," he answered instead, kissing the top of her head. "Now, then. I don't believe you two are in any condition to take these down. Why don't we rest and take them down tomorrow morning?"
"I suppose so," Inko tiredly agreed. "I'm already worn out from all the excitement. Let's sit in with some hot chocolate and a movie to wind down the evening."
Izuku glanced up upon seeing Tomura enter. The stark black gloves stood out against his pale skin, and before he could say anything, the older man surprised his mother by wrapping his arms around her front and tugging her back.
Inko let out a squeak, immediately grasping his arms. "What-?"
When she looked down to see the hands pressed firmly to her stomach, and when she paused to do a mental head-count, she gaped and twisted to see Tomura resting his forehead against her shoulder, eyes closed.
"Oh…" she cupped his cheek, eyes growing soft. "Did you like the gloves?"
"Yes," he answered, voice gruff.
"I'm glad." Smiling, she closed her watering eyes and rested her head against his. "I'm… so glad."
A/N: Yeah, I know, I know, the KFC inclusion is kinda weird, but to my understanding KFC is actually a pretty big thing in Japan during the Christmas season.
