"Which of you is John Winchester?" The man asked as he got up on his feet. "Please. Time is of the essence. Which of you is John Winchester?"

"Neither." Sam said, shocking the man.

"That's impossible." The man said, shaking his head in disbelief. "That's absolutely… what did I do wrong?"

"Who the hell are you?" Dean demanded.

"Not now, I'm thinking." The man said, his mind going into overdrive as he looked down, thinking.

Dean was about to grab the man but Stefan gestured as Dean stopped, while Stefan gave him an assuring look. "I got this." He then approached the man and looked him in the eye. "Tell us who you are, where did you come from and why are you here."

The man looked at Stefan as his pupils widened, while the compulsion was taking hold before the compulsion took hold as he calmed down. "My name is Henry Winchester. I'm from Normal, Illinois, 1958 and I came here looking for my son, John Winchester."

That completely shocked Dean and Sam, while Stefan and Bonnie looked at them in disbelief.

"Winchester, like you and your Dad." Bonnie realized.

"Does 'Henry Winchester' mean anything to you?" Stefan asked, turning to Dean and Sam.

"That's… our Dad's dad. Our grandfather." Sam said.

"But from 1958?" Bonnie questioned.

"Well, he's not a vampire or a demon and it's unlikely that he's on vervain." Stefan said, knowing that there was no way that the man could fake the trance after the initial confusion and only the Originals could compel another vampire.

"Is time travel even possible?" Bonnie asked.

"Well… it's not our first experience with that." Dean admitted.

"You're John Winchester's sons?" Henry asked, turning to Dean and Sam.

"Yeah. And while this is a nice family reunion, would you mind explaining how the hell did you get here?" Dean demanded.

"I don't have time to explain, you have to take me to John right—" Henry stopped, when the whole place began shaking again.

"What's going on now?" Bonnie demanded.

"Oh, my God…" Henry whispered, widening his eyes in horror as he turned to the closet he had come through earlier. "Run!"

A moment later the closet glowed again as a red-haired woman in silver dress that was stained with blood walked out of the door, smiling at Henry, even though she had a sadistic look in her eyes. "Henry." She laughed. "Silly man, you forgot to lock the door. Then spells never were your best subject, were they?" She then eyed the Winchester brothers, Bonnie and Stefan before turning to Henry. "Why don't you be a doll and give me what I want and I promise to kill you and your friends quickly?"

"You know I can't do that." Henry shook his head.

"You're not a fighter, Henry." The woman said.

Realizing she was a demon, Bonnie sprang into action and waved her hand, flinging the demon to the wall as the demon laughed at Bonnie.

"A witch. Well, that's no way to treat a lady." The demon smirked before Dean stabbed her in the back with the demon-killing knife as she glowed yellow and grunted in pain and fell down, shocking them that it didn't kill her.

"Run. Now!" Dean ordered.

The demon recovered as she got up, while they ran out of the house to the car and drove off.

Few moments later, another car parked in front of the boardinghouse as Matt exited the car, now in his police officer uniform, wondering what was going on, when he saw a red-haired woman walk out of the house, alarming Matt, who drew his gun at her, realizing she wasn't human.

"Don't move." Matt said as the woman smirked and neared him and he fired at her, though the shots didn't even faze her. Matt then pulled out a wooden stake, about to stab her with it in the heart before she grabbed his hand.

"Not a vampire, silly." The demon before she swung her hand and in one swift move Matt's head went flying from his shoulders as the body toppled while the head rolled down on the ground.

They took a shelter back in Alaric's home, which, thanks to Bonnie, was cloaked for now.

"So, is grandfather legit?" Alaric asked, still having trouble processing time travel.

"Driver's license says he's Henry Winchester from Normal, Illinois. He knows Dad's birthday, the exact place he was born. That's our grandfather." Sam said.

"And he's a human, not a vampire or a demon?" Jo asked and they nodded.

"I'm still processing that time travel is possible." Stefan said.

"Welcome to the club." Bonnie nodded.

"What do you know about your grandfather anyway?" Alaric asked.

"Nothing, except that he ran out on Dad when he was a kid." Dean said bitterly.

"Maybe he didn't run out on Dad, at least not on purpose, maybe he time-traveled here and, I don't know, got stuck." Sam said as they saw Henry sitting down and staring at the worn out black-and-white photo of himself and John who was a child.

"Well, either way, Dad hated the son of a bitch." Dean said.

"And Dad made up for that how? By being Father of the Year?" Sam pointed out and Dean sighed.

"Look, before we jump to conclusions, let's at least hear him out. I mean, he deserves that much." Bonnie said.

"Look, Dad had his issues, but he was always there for us. I freaking hate time travel, man." Dean said before they approached Henry, while Bonnie brought a mug of tea.

"Tea?" Bonnie offered as she sat down.

"Thank you." Henry said as he took a sip of tea.

"How are you doing?" Sam asked.

"I'll be fine." Henry assured, eying Dean and Sam. "After all, despite everything, I've just met my grandsons, haven't I?" He offered his hand. "Henry Winchester. It's a pleasure."

Sam shook Henry's hand. "Sam."

"Hello, Sam." Henry said.

"Dean." Dean said gruffly as he offered his hand and Henry shook it.

"Bonnie Bennett. A witch and their friend." Bonnie said.

"Alaric Saltzman. A vampire hunter." Alaric introduced himself.

"Stefan Salvatore." Stefan said and Henry narrowed his eyes.

"Salvatore, as in one of the founders of Mystic Falls?" Henry asked.

"That's right." Stefan nodded.

"And I assume you're a vampire, given what I've seen you do." Henry said and Stefan nodded, knowing it was pointless to deny it.

"He's a good vampire, by the way, otherwise he wouldn't be here." Sam added and Henry nodded, even though good vampires was a bit difficult news to process for him.

"Mind explaining to us who Betty Crocker was back there?" Dean asked and Henry sighed.

"Abaddon. A demon." Henry said.

"We figured as much, why does she want to kill you?" Bonnie asked.

"For that matter, how did you get here in the first place with her?" Stefan asked.

"A blood sigil." Henry explained. "Blood leads to blood. Or their next of kin."

Elena, Caroline, Jeremy and Damon were coming to visit Stefan, when, much to their shock, they saw Matt's headless body with blood seeping from his neck and his head few yards aside as Elena and Caroline covered their mouths in shock, while Jeremy and Damon stared, as they had never thought that Matt would endlike this.

"But Abaddon came through also, right? So can you create this blood sigil again?" Sam asked.

"With my blood, an angel feather, tears of a dragon, a pinch of the Sands of Time. I would need those and at least a week for my soul to recharge, but, yes, it's possible." Henry explained.

"You tapped the power of your soul to get here?" Bonnie asked, amazed.

"I thought only angels could do that." Sam said.

"You should know this." Henry said, looking at Dean and Sam with a frown. "What level are you two?"

"What level?" Dean repeated, confused.

"Level of knowledge." Henry explained. "You're Men of Letters, correct?"

"I'm sorry, did you say 'Men of Letters'?" Alaric repeated. "I thought they were a myth. Just a fairytale among hunters."

"You know what he means?" Dean asked.

"A brotherhood of protectors, observers, chroniclers who guard the knowledge of supernatural and arcane mysteries. They'd share their knowledge among hunters, but I heard they vanished years ago. I'm surprised your Dad never told you about them." Alaric said, turning to Dean and Sam.

"Wait. Hunters?" Henry asked, looking at Dean and Sam incredulously. "No. You're hunters?" He shook his head in disbelief. "Well, hunters are… hunters are apes." He eyed Dean and Sam again. "You're supposed to be legacies."

"Legacies of what exactly?" Dean asked, when Bonnie's phone rang and she answered the call.

"Elena? No, I'm with Dean and Sam and Stefan, why, what's—wait, slow down." Bonnie then covered her mouth, her eyes getting wet. "Yeah. I think I know who did it. No, stay away from it. Dean and Sam will handle it."

Bonnie hung up as Henry looked at her in surprise. "Is everything alright?"

Bonnie turned, looking completely shocked. "Matt's dead. Witnesses said there was a red-haired woman in a dress covered in blood."

That news shocked Stefan and Alaric as they had never thought that they would see the day.

Later, Salvatore Boarding House

After giving the witness statements, Stefan and Caroline and Elena compelled the witnesses and officers and made them erase the statements and make Matt's death look like a tragic accident, save for Liz.

"What did that?" Liz asked as they looked at each other.

"A demon." Henry said.

"Seriously?" Liz asked incredulously before sighing and wiping her face, trying to keep it together. After what she had seen, not much should surprise her, but still, Matt… "Please, tell me you're going to stop her."

"We plan to, Sheriff. The real problem is how the hell are we gonna find her." Dean said.

"She wants me. And one more thing. Something I'm sure must be still stashed where I came from. If it stayed where I came from… when I came from, she'll come there too to draw me out." Henry said.

"Maybe you weren't the only one who survived the attack." Sam said, pulling out his phone as he went aside with Dean, Henry, Stefan and Bonnie. "Do you remember who was there that night?"

"Uhm…" Henry began thinking. "Ackers, David. Larry Ganem." He listed as Sam began typing the names into the search engine. "Ted…"

"OK, here it is." Sam said, finding an old newspaper article in Illinois Herald archives. "'August 12th, 1958. Tragic fire at gentlemen's club, 242 Gaines Street, Normal, Illinois.'"

"That was no fire." Henry said, shaking his head.

"Larry Ganem, David Ackers, Ted Bowen, Albert Magnus, all deceased." Sam read.

"Albert Magnus…" Henry trailed off.

"Friend of yours?" Alaric asked.

"Even better." Henry said.

Normal, Illinois

They drove whole day and night until they arrived at the graveyard and approached some gravestones at the corner.

"These were my friends. My mentors." Henry said sadly. "Our last defense against the Abaddons of the world."

"Albert Magnus. Here." Stefan said, pointing at the gravestone with his flashlight.

"So who was he? A friend?" Dean asked.

"Hardly. One of the greatest alchemist of the Middle Ages." Henry explained.

"OK, so why is he buried here?" Sam asked.

"He's not." Henry explained as he approached the grave. "His was the alias we'd use when going incognito. I believe someone planted his name in that article…"

"…so that a Man of Letters would know what to look for, if they'd come looking for it." Stefan said and Henry nodded. "Someone wanted you to come here."

"The question is why." Henry said before they saw a sigil of a unicursal hexagram in a circle carved into the tombstone.

"What's this?" Dean asked, pointing at the sigil with the flashlight.

"The Aquarian Star. It represents great magical power." Bonnie said.

"And also our crest." Henry nodded. "They say it stood at the gates of Atlantis itself."

"It's on all the tombstones except this one. Larry Ganem." Sam said as they examined the tombstones.

Henry examined the symbol carved on the tombstone. "The Haitian symbol for speaking to the dead. This is the message."

They picked shovels and dug out the coffin before Dean and Alaric opened it to reveal a skeleton before they examined its clothes.

"Was Larry a vet from World War I?" Alaric asked and Henry shook his head before Dean knelt down and examined the skeleton's clothes more and found a medal.

"Captain Thomas J. Carey III." Dean read from the medal. "Does it mean anything to you?"

Henry shook his head again.

"Well, there must be a reason why this dead guy is here and not Larry." Stefan said.

"What are you thinking? Maybe he faked his death?" Alaric asked.

"And could be using this guy's identity to hide out." Sam said.

"Well, what are we waiting for?" Henry asked.

Mystic Falls Police Department

"So cause of death was decapitation. And we'll have to notify his parents." The coroner said after she finished Matt's autopsy.

"I'll get on with it." Liz said but stopped, when she saw the coroner's eyes turn pitch black and she backed away in terror before some black smoke came out of his mouth into Liz's as Abaddon scoured her memories.

Illinois

They rented a motel room, deciding to get some rest as Henry sat on the couch, Dean and Alaric were getting some beer and Bonnie was reading through John's journal and Sam checked the records on the laptop. "So the county records say that Tom Carey lives now in Lebanon, Kansas in a retirement home as a happy 127-year-old man."

"Well, I got something from your Dad's journal." Bonnie said, reading through John's journal. "He once tortured a demon who said that he was making his bones working for Abaddon, the Knight of Hell."

"What does that even mean?" Dean wondered.

"Knights of Hell are handpicked by Lucifer himself. They are of the first-fallen, firstborn demons." Henry explained.

"So, very pure, very strong." Sam said.

"Legend has it that archangels had killed all of them, which as we have witnessed, is not the case." Henry said as he got up.

"Unless she's the last of her kind." Dean realized and Henry nodded before pointing at the journal.

"You said that belonged to your father?" Henry asked and Dean and Sam nodded before he turned to Bonnie. "May I?"

Bonnie looked unsure at Dean and Sam, who shrugged before she handed the journal to Henry.

"It's a hunter's journal. I assume that Men of Letters use journals too?" Sam asked.

"I intended to." Henry confirmed, skimming through the journal. "I sent away for one before my initiation." He then went to the cover of the journal, seeing his initials carved into it behind John's photo. "As a matter of fact, this one, I believe."

"That was yours?" Dean asked.

"It must've arrived after…" Henry trailed off before the possible consequences of him time traveling dawned onto him, realizing the impact it must have had on his son's and grandsons' lives as he looked at Dean and Sam. "I'm beginning to gather I don't make it back from this time, am I?"

"We don't know for sure. What we do know is that Dad never saw you again." Sam admitted.

"What did he think happen to me?" Henry asked.

"He thought you ran out on him." Dean said and Henry sighed as his heart shattered and he sat down, devastated.

"John was a legacy. I was supposed to teach him the way of the Letters." Henry said.

"Well, he learned things a little differently." Dean said.

"How?" Henry asked.

"The hard way. Surviving a lonely childhood, a stinking war, only to get married and have his wife taken by a demon and later killed by one himself." Dean said and Henry looked down, guilty and ashamed before looking Dean in the eye. "That man got a bum rap around every turn but you know what? He kept going and in the end he did a lot more good than bad."

Henry sighed. "I'm sorry. I wish I had been there for him."

"Yeah, well, it's a little late for that, don't you think?" Dean snapped.

"Dean, that's not fair. We don't know what happened. All of it yet." Bonnie said.

"There's a price we pay for upholding great responsibility. We know that." Henry said.

"Your responsibility was to your family, not some glorified book club." Dean snapped.

"I was a legacy. I had no choice." Henry protested.

"Keep telling yourself that." Dean sneered.

Stefan's phone then rang and he answered the call. "Hey, Liz, is everything—"

"I'm afraid the Sheriff is indisposed right now."

Stefan's blood ran cold, recognizing the voice. "Abaddon. Where's Liz? I swear, if you hurt her or Caroline—"

Everyone looked to him, alarmed.

"Don't worry, Stefan, your friends are alive and in one piece." Abaddon said before Stefan turned the speaker on.

"What do you want?" Stefan demanded.

"A good old-fashioned horse trade. Henry and the secret he was supposed to protect for Sheriff Forbes or she dies. Am I clear?" Abaddon said and Dean and Sam sighed, while Stefan growled.

"Crystal." Dean said, resigned.

"I'll text you the address where you meet me. Don't keep me waiting." Abaddon said as she hung up and Dean sighed.

"I assume this Sheriff Forbes is friend of yours?" Henry asked.

"She's my friend." Stefan confirmed and Henry sighed.

"This is all my fault. If I could come back, stop this all from happening—"

"Whoa, even assuming you have enough power to go back in time, what happens if you change the past?" Bonnie interrupted.

"Bonnie's right, for all we know, if you change things, me and Sam might cease to exist." Dean said.

"We can't let her kill Liz." Stefan said.

"We can't just hand Henry over either." Sam said.

"Then what we are going to do?" Henry asked.

Abaddon had Liz in restraints in an abandoned factory, while Dean and Sam carried Henry in restraints, while Alaric, Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan and Damon accompanied them.

"Don't do it." Henry said.

"Too late for that now." Dean said.

"That's the problem with you hunters. You're all shortsighted." Henry spat.

"Well, at least we're not extinct." Dean said.

"Abaddon!" Sam called as they faced her.

"Henry in exchange for Sheriff Forbes, alive." Stefan said.

"My only interest is Henry and the secrets he's guarding. You are free to go." Abaddon said.

"Go." Damon ordered, shoving Henry.

"Or we can make you crawl to her. Your call." Dean said, aiming his gun at Henry's knees.

Henry walked towards Abaddon, while Liz walked towards them.

"I'm sorry." Henry said to Liz as she marched to the group.

"Caroline, what's going on now?" Liz asked.

"Later, Mom." Caroline said as she undid Liz's restraints.

They were about to leave, when the door closed as Abaddon gestured and Dean and Sam whirled around, glaring.

"We had a deal!" Dean yelled and Abaddon laughed.

"Surprise. I lied." Abaddon said before she plunged her hand into Henry's abdomen as he gagged and coughed blood.

"Oh, my God…" Liz whispered.

"Wait…" Dean raised his hand as Abaddon laughed and pulled her hand away.

"You're not the only one." Henry undid his restraints and pulled out a gun and shot her in the head.

"We can't let her kill Liz." Stefan said.

"We can't just hand Henry over either." Sam said.

"Then what we are going to do?" Henry asked before an idea hit him. "Maybe we can't kill her, but we may be able to slow her down."

"I think there might be a way." Dean said as he got an idea.

"What a blast." Abaddon laughed, unfazed by the headshot before she grabbed Henry by his head, about to read his memory but then she realized she was unable to move or escape her meatsuit as she grunted and shoved Henry down and screamed in rage. "Why am I stuck?"

Henry blew the dust off the bullet as he finished carving the pentagram into the tip of the bullet.

"A Devil's Trap carved into a bullet." Dean said, impressed.

"Well, you'll have only one shot and you'll have to do it up close. And close means it will get ugly." Sam said.

"I know. But you do that for blood." Henry said as he loaded the gun with the bullet.

"Now you're trapped in that meatsuit. No smoking out." Dean quipped.

"You still didn't kill me." Abaddon taunted, laughing.

"But I can."

They turned in surprise to see Cass teleport in.

"Cass?" Dean, Sam and Bonnie whispered in shock.

"Castiel?" Abaddon looked at the new arrival in surprise, before she broke into a chuckle. "Do you really think you can stop me?"

Cass's eyes glowed blue as blinding orange light surrounded him with the silhouette of his wings appearing behind him and Abaddon realized that he was stronger than she had thought.

"You're bluffing!" Abaddon shouted.

"You wanna take that chance?" Cass challenged and Abaddon tried to run before Cass grabbed her by her head and stabbed her with his angel blade in the abdomen and Abaddon glowed with crackling noise and screamed before she fell down.

"Is she dead?" Dean asked as Cass shook his head.

"Only archangels or the First Blade can kill the Knights of Hell. But with her weakened by the Devil's Trap, I knocked her out. Though we'll have to find a way to dispose of her." Cass said.

"Well, we might not be able to kill her but we can make her wish she was dead. We'll just have to cut her to pieces and scatter them." Dean said.

Then, they heard an applause as into the view marched in a blonde woman in blue suit marched in, clapping her hands.

"So, you're the Winchester brothers. I must admit, I'm impressed." The woman said with an English accent and while Dean and Sam and Cass didn't recognize her, Stefan's eyes went wide.

"Valerie?" Stefan demanded.

Now, I don't really hate Matt but the only reason he lasted so long in the show was dumb luck and plot armor until he became even bigger bigot than Dean or Xander Harris from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, at least Dean, while he is bigoted at first, he's not blind to redeeming qualities of some 'good monsters' and is able to move past his biases and Xander later moved past them as well in the follow-up comics. And to be blunt, he and Tyler are the least interesting characters in the entire TVD and while Tyler was a jackass, I could feel some sympathies for him at first due to him being a werewolf and what Klaus put him through but after he kidnapped Hayley, a pregnant woman, just to get back at Klaus, he showed himself to be no better than Klaus whom he despises and Matt, to an extent I could see his side, but the only reasons he survived that long was the Gilbert ring and plot armor and in Season 6 was where he turned into a fulltime bigot, Dean himself does show a bigoted attitude to most supernatural creatures and monsters too but he's not blind to their redeeming qualities either and is able to move past his biases if the said creatures prove to be innocent or at least harmless to innocent people, something which Matt clearly lacks, even Xander from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer would be disturbed by Matt, to say the least.

And while it was confirmed that archangels can kill Knights of Hell, it's up to debate if lower-class angels could, even though in general angels are stronger than demons but given that Abaddon bolted when she found out Dean had Gadreel as a backup in 9x02, it's fair to say that Castiel as a seraph would at least do some serious damage to her, so he just knocked her out and well, she won't be a problem anymore, given that she ends up the same way as in the show, in pieces and imprisoned.

No, it's not Valerie Tulle, though those familiar with both Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries can guess, though it's just a cameo, since the next chapter is going to end the story. Poor Stefan though, *chuckles*

The next chapter is going to end the story.
