DISCLAIMER: If you recognize it I do not own it. Also, I know that Rudulphus has been officially changed to Rodolphus which is when I looked it up the correct spelling. I need to go back and rewrite the old chapters and fix things up but for now, just assume I always spelled it right. I'm sorry about that. This chapter went from really really lighthearted finishing up the shopping scene to something a bit more serious. I didn't mean it to but once it started I couldn't stop it, especially since I wanted to show that Harry is still struggling. She is being asked to do something near impossible, something that those closest to her does not support. It's a lot especially as she still is slightly traumatized from the war.
The twins were amazed at the food. They had been in the muggle world before but had not really known how to navigate things. Harry who had lived in the muggle world but never had a chance to properly experience things, was enjoying herself as well. She at least, had been witness to normal muggle things so she knew how to order and pay for things without help. Still, the unique crowd did draw eyes. A group of obvious teenagers with four children would always catch eyes. Then again, Harry had become very used to it as the girl who loved and now as the women who conquered so she was able to ignore it as she went to the cash to order food for everyone while the twins got the kids seated in a booth.
The kids looked interested but unsure of what to them was strange food. While wizarding food was only slightly different then muggle, she had seen nothing similar to crisps and chicken nuggets and despite there age, the kids had had manners drilled into them, so the idea of finger foods was foreign. She carefully added some dipping sauce to each of the kids' sections and carefully took a bite. They were all watching her before copying her actions. Having already told them to use their hands but they had been too shocked to do it without seeing her first.
How on earth were they so adorable? They were very hesitant to eat with their fingers and it took some reassurance that that was how chips were supposed to be eaten. Seeing the adults (or teens as they were barely considered adults) do it reassured them it was okay. It as a cute scene and it was very obvious that they were enjoying the fast food but there was still clearly some hesitance to eating with their hands.
Rabastan however was much younger and had not been drilled as heavily with proper decorum, so he just clapped his hands excitedly before grabbing another one. "Good," Harry asked getting a nod in return. "What do you guys think of them."
"It is very yummy Miss Harry, thank you," Rodolphus said ever serious. Though that statement was nearly repeated perfectly by Sirius.
The twins both looked equally as conflicted as they took bites of the food. "What exactly are we eating," Fred said confused.
"Yeah, they are good but what are they," George asked looking at the chicken nugget as if it were a potion. "It's meat, right? Is it chicken?"
"These are fries or chips. They are made with potatoes. And these are chicken nuggets," Harry said easily. "I figured it was easier to get everyone the same thing especially since none of you knew what you liked."
"It's good," Fred agreed. "And what's this?" He was pointing to one of the open dipping sauces in front of him.
"Dipping sauce," Harry said amused as she dipped her chicken nugget in the sauce. Normally it was the twins telling her how things worked so it was nice for it to be the other way for once. "Its to give it a better flavor."
"Wicked," The twins said together excitedly as they both tried it. The kids copied them giggling at the change in flavor. She had chosen sweet and sour which seemed to be a hit.
Rodolphus looked extremely worried, and it took Harry a moment to realize what was bothering the boy. He was looking at his brother and had tensed. Rabastan looked fine to her, and he was happily enjoying the food. He was a mess though since he very much enjoyed the dipping sauces and remembering how proper the boys tended to be, she realized that was likely the issue, so she quickly wiped him off with a napkin promising the young boy it was perfectly fine.
She also wiped up Bellatrix's hands since they were dirty and offered the two older boys' napkins to do the same to their own hands which they did so happily. "So anything else you need to pick up," George asked curiously.
"A pram I think," Harry stated after a moment getting a confused look. Did the wizarding world not use prams or strollers? When she had been struggling over how to get the kids to the store before the twin's arrival, she had realized it was necessary. Rabastan was only two and Bella three. They were very small for their age or so she assumed. Almost delicate looking. She needed something to help, and the stroller was the first thing she could think of. "It is something that you can put kids in so you don't carry them. Just push them around in it. I don't know if our world has them, but I figure that it will be easier getting the kids around with that then with carrying Trixie and Bas. They have some that have space for multiple kids. So, it will help, I think. I'm not sure honestly. I don't know what else kids will need."
Seeing as she looked overwhelmed Fred quickly went to reassure her. "Hey, you're doing fine. If we forget something we can just come back out. No need to stress love. "
"So, lets go find this pram thing and we can finish today off on a high note," George agreed. "Especially since I think a pretty little princess is getting sleepy." He was right, Bellatrix was starting to doze off now that her belly was full. It was an exciting day for them, all the kids looked as exhausted as Harry felt.
It took some subtle magic shrinking and weightless bags, but they got everything back to Grimmauld place.
There was a lot of bags and things, but the stroller had been a good call since both younger children were fast asleep in their seats as she had gotten a double one just for that reason. "What do we do not," Sirius asked curiously. It was clear he wanted to do something with the bags of excitement they brought in. She couldn't blame him of course. Bags full of toys that he never even knew existed, so it was easy to be excited. Harry gently sat Rabastan on the sofa as George laid down Bellatrix.
Harry sent a spell separating toys and clothes unpacking them. Two spells later the cloths were neatly piled and the toys were open and spread out on the floor ready for the children to explore them. "Now we play with it," Harry said easily.
"Really," Rodolphus asked excitedly.
Fred and George immediately picked the two boys up spinning them before grabbing the toys and playing with everything until the room looked like a disaster sight. Dinosaurs were laid out creating armies, teddies, dolls and action figures on the other side. A block tower was being made in a corner and knocked over. As the two youngest children woke and joined them, the play got even more wild.
Harry grinned as they finished a tower before they knocked it over again causing Rabastan and Bellatrix to let out peals of laughter shouting 'again again' and the twins quickly complied as they began gathering up the blocks once more. She couldn't remember the last time she had as much fun as she sat and played with toys, she had only dreamed of being able to touch as a young child.
All too soon the children were tired out and she brought them to their beds reading them a story, singing a quick lullaby before returning downstairs. The twins already had everything tidied, magic made it simple which was a relief as she was beyond exhausted.
"They are friggen adorable," Fred decided as she sat down on his side, George quickly joining on her other side.
"Merlin they are so much cuter than I expected," George agreed. He had not been sure what to expect of the children who were once the most fearsome of all death eaters, but they were far from anything he had imagined.
"Sweet, innocent little children," Harry said. The days since she got them that became more and more clear. Besides being far too proper and a bit nervous about all the changes in their life, she could not see any true differences between them and the children she had once went to primary school with. She may not have had a lot of experience with children but there was nothing evil about the children in her care. That truly showed just how much how they were raised tainted them. "I was worried I'd only see their adult selves," Harry admitted.
It was hard to say especially with how badly the rest of the Weasley's and Hermione reacted to the very idea. When she spoke to them, she had tried to be confident about the fact that changes were possible, but she hardly dared believe it. Admitting she wasn't sure if she was able to forgive them seemed as if she was saying her friends was right.
There was no judgement on either twin's faces with her admittance. "Considering how badly they hurt you and how badly they tried, no one could blame you love," George agreed.
"I was scared I couldn't care for them," Harry admitted. It made her feel like a horrible person, especially as already the kids seemed to trust her. "Or that I couldn't look past the death eaters to the children. But you can't see Bellatrix in little Trixie. You can't see any of their older selves in them. They are too innocent and carefree for that. I've only known them five days, had them for three but I just don't see how they became who they became."
"You might never know," Fred admitted fully understanding what she meant. He had dueled Bellatrix during the fight when she tried to send a curse, a deadly curse at George during one of the many battles and fights they had witnessed.
"Probably their parents, never know just what happened between the age they are now and going to prison. Besides, the dark mark twisted people. That's proven by the ministry. Some might just be gits but without Voldemort, you just don't know who they could have been," George said. "Now that they have been given a chance, we will see I guess. Growing up in a war grounds twist people, having their parents brain wash them, it could be a thousand reasons."
"Do you think they will change," Harry asked. She was so afraid that she would mess this up or that she'd do everything she could, and they still turn into the monsters they had become. "Do you think that they can be good."
"Yeah," Fred said without hesitation. The lack of worry in his answer shocked her.
"This was a brilliant decision," George said surprising Harry as she glanced to her other side. "Giving those kids a chance at a real life. Even I know that Sirius never had one before and they are good kids. I can see this working exactly as it was meant to."
"What if I can't," Harry said. "I don't know how to be a mum."
Both twins scoffed at that. After seeing her today, they couldn't help but think that she was a natural born mother if that were possible. She was gentle, kind, thoughtful. The kids in mere days had already become extremely attached to her. The idea that she would be a bad mom or couldn't do it never even crossed either of their minds. "Harry," Fred said seriously knowing that she needed some reassurance. "You are going to be a great mom."
"How do you know?"
"Because we know you," George agreed without hesitation.
"You would never deprive them of anything, they have cloths, food, comfort."
"You are patient with them, taking time to explain things or help without losing your temper or getting stressed, that is important for parents," George said. "More important then you would think."
"And the idea that they will still be death eater sympathizers is impossible."
Harry's eyes widened displaying her shock at that statement. "How…how do you know," Harry asked. "I'm so worried Hermione is right and that I can't change them. How aren't you worried about that?"
"Harry love, Rodolphus Lestrange, death eater poster child thinks muggles are cool and dinosaurs are better than dragons. You've in five days already started to change them," Fred said.
"This is one day though," Harry protested.
"And you have a lifetime," George said. "You're not telling them what to think or how to act. You're showing them an entire world they have never been exposed to in their last life. Not in a negative way, you won't believe how many purebloods fear anything to do with the muggle world. Its different and scary since its not something that we got to experience, and our dad loves muggles."
"But at the beginning of the day, they thought Muggles savages and uncultured, unintelligent," Fred said. "They left this experience with a new understanding of a different world."
"A world they experienced in a very enjoyable way," George added. "Games and toys and cloths and strange food. A different world. Going to the muggle world is like going to another country. Different but still normal in ways. One day wont completely changes their upbringing or the bias they were brought up for but you will definitely make sure that they experience the world. Not in a scary way but in a welcoming way. If you learn to love muggles, how can they think like blood supremacists."
"Sirius used to tell us some about how he was brought up," Fred said. "The things his parents used to tell him about muggles and muggleborns."
Harry shuttered slightly. He had told her as well. "Horrible, horrible things," George agreed.
"He learnt different since muggleborns tend to go into Gryffindor. So, he got to learn the world through other eyes. Plus, he was defiant and explored just to piss off his parents," Fred added. "But if your only knowledge of muggles and muggleborns is given to you by people who hate and despise them, probably because that's all they too know, its easy to see why they might view them as less then human."
"But these kids now know the truth. Different. Creative. Inventive. Unique in a number of ways. Some are good some are bad. But now they can choose to form their own opinions not something that is forced down their throats."
"You're not telling them what to think either. You're letting them explore a new world and figure out opinions for themselves. Pretty sure by the time they were our ages, they never had their own thoughts and had long since been brainwashed into being little replicas of their parents' views and ideas. You didn't tell them to think dinosaurs are better then dragons. They decided that themselves because they were unique and interesting. Hard to be brainwashed sociopaths when they are given the chance to learn for themselves how the world works. They won't be the same. Already they are different. They wont experience the same things."
"You want us to tell you, our opinion. We 100% think that these kids were given new life, a new chance. They won't be Bellatrix Lestrange the most feared of all death eaters. She's just going to be little Bella Black."
Harry let out a breath of relief. Hearing that from them was a huge relief. She had been afraid everyone would think the same. She even was thinking it but hearing it laid out like that made her truly believe it was a good choice.
The twins weren't done though. "But maybe they will change you into someone whose happier, give you a life too."
. Considering how everyone seemed to think she was ruining her life she couldn't understand where they were coming from with that. "What do you mean?"
"We just spent two hours on the floor playing," George said seriously. "You looked like a kid in the candy store most of the day. You light up when you're playing with them. Or when they smile at you. I think, today was the first time you could be a kid ever wasn't it."
"Looking at toys, choosing fun games and sitting around playing," Fred agreed they knew enough about her childhood to know that she had rarely been able to experience the same things that she was giving these kids. "When you were with the Dursley's, did you ever get to play like that?"
Harry shook her head. It was the first time she got to play with all the toys she spent her life watching Dudley play with. "Yeah, I never really got the chance to play with toys or run around and have fun, I always had to do chores and I wasn't allowed to touch Dudley's stuff. Aunt Petunia or Uncle Vernon would whip me something awful if I tried."
The twins hated how easily she said that. The idea of whipping a child. They knew she wasn't exaggerating either. They would likely have done that very thing. How they treated her was far beyond criminal. "Harry, you were in Dursley hell then Hogwarts where you were attacked near monthly and survived a war ground. Either it was attacks from death eater sympathizers, students, teachers and adults or actually fighting in battles. Hogwarts was far from an escape for you. You haven't ever lived," George said. "And you are being thrust into adulthood way too young."
"Sixteen and already a parent to four kids," Fred said. "We won't tell you it was wrong but even we have to admit you are far too young for that."
"There was no one else to take them," Harry said defensively.
"We know," Fred said. "And you leapt in to play hero but Harry, you need to do stuff for you too. Today...I think that was the first time I saw you truly have fun. Beyond quidditch which you loved but even that was tainted for you. Cursed brooms. Cursed Bludgers. Umbridge. This was the first time you enjoyed something that hasn't been tainted. You got to be a kid."
"Even if you are being forced to be a parent far too young, maybe it's an opportunity for you too. You've got kids, do all the things you wanted to while growing up. Give them the childhood you wanted but live it too. We know you will do it. I mean you'll do things twice as fast for someone else. Giving the kids opportunities. But now you get to experience it too. You wouldn't buy toys for yourself but now you can play."
"You can go out do fun things. Like the zoo thing you mentioned. You'll do it for them but get to experience it too. So maybe, instead of ruining your life, maybe they'll give you a chance to enjoy it."
She had no idea what to think about what they were saying. It was a bit overwhelming to her. "Also, to help you adjust, Kingsley who now owes you a tone of favors, has really stepped up to get you left alone. A huge reason you were in the muggle world miss women who conquered. You'll always have expectations but right now, you aren't doing what Dumbledore wants or what mom wants or what the papers want because your being noble and trying to help the kids, keep promises to Sirius. If not…you might have let yourself be pressured into things. Now you won't. Now you have someone to fight for and you were always quicker to fight for others then yourselves."
"If it wasn't obvious Harry, we think you are making the right choices. Not just for them but for you too," Fred said seriously. "And we have your back even if Ron and Hermione and mom can't see just how good, kind and selfless you truly are."
"No matter what, we will happily be here," George said giving her cheek a kiss. "You're not alone love. And we support you. The idea might have seemed outlandish and impossible, but we know now that it was the right call. Maybe, if more people were willing to step up, to give second chances, to rewrite the mistakes of the past, then maybe just maybe we wouldn't have spent our teen years fighting a war."
There was absolutely nothing she could say. She couldn't even begin to form words. They just told her to get some sleep as they apparated away not before giving her a hug and a light kiss on the cheek promising to be around more. Despite being exhausted she didn't sleep though. She had far too much on her mind.
