Chapter 7 : Flip of a coin.

Having a younger sibling was not new to me.

Having a younger sibling while being an anime character that was supposed to be an only child however

I didn't freak out or anything…well, at least outwardly I didn't.

"...A baby?" I breathed out.

It felt like the floor had been pulled from beneath my feet, I was free falling, stomach dropping and thoughts spiraling.

"Yes! Your mom is pregnant…pregnant means.." Dad struggled to finish his sentence.

(the dork is probably trying to avoid explaining what sex is to his five year old)

A moment later, his face lit up as he seemed to find his words "It means mom is cooking a baby in her stomach!"

"Dear!" Mom slapped the back of his head, staring him down with a 'wtf' look.

I grimaced. There were far better ways to explain pregnancy to a child, why was dad so awkward?

"What your dad means honey is that soon, mommy and daddy will give you a sibling that you can play with and talk to and be friends with." She smiled, bright and warm. "Isn't that exciting?"

Exciting. Yeah sure.

I forced a smile and nodded enthusiastically at them.

Then, I distractedly mumbled something about going outside to play with friends and booked it out of the door.

I ran through the snowy backyard until I arrived at the forest edge.

I leant against a tree, breaths coming in white puffs of air.

What the fuck.

What the actual fuck.

My breaths came in quick succession, chest heaving from the sheer confusion (and exhaustion, kids have short legs) that crashed into me like a shit storm.

A baby?!

A whole ass baby!

Why. Where. Who. How. What the fuck.

I put a hand on my chest and took deeper breaths. (Think happy thoughts)

I slapped my cheeks hard, waking myself up.

"Okay. Focus."

I closed my eyes.

The facts were :

I'm Haku.

Haku was a single child.

My mom was pregnant.

So.

Either, That (stupid) theory about being reborn in an alternate dimension of Naruto where Haku has a happy life was true.

(highly doubt it, it's too good to be true)

Or

Something had changed from the original storyline. (most likely to be true)

If so, then where was the point of divergence?

The most glaring difference from the original plot is, obviously, my existence.

So my actions and decisions must have been the cause of this change.

The thing was though, I didn't do anything.

I didn't ask my parents for siblings, I didn't say I was lonely or in need of a 'playmate'.

So, how did my 'doing nothing' change events exactly?

The original Haku, as far as I knew, was an only child.

His family consisted of only three people, himself included, two of which ended up dead before he could lose all his baby teeth-

My eyes snapped open.

And that was it, wasn't it?

They had died.

Originally, Haku's parents had died before they could give him a sibling. They had died when he was a young child, his age was never mentioned.

So that left two possible explanations for my current situation.

Either old Haku's mom was pregnant when she was killed and that explains why he was an only child.

That also meant that D-day was fast approaching.

Or.

Old Haku's mom was never pregnant.

That would mean that the fact that she's pregnant is a direct byproduct of my actions.

Actions being : trying to prevent my parents' death.

If that were the case then…D-day, the day where my parents die, has already passed.

They'd outlived their original selves so things were bound to be different.

If the second possibility was true, then I'd have successfully saved my beloved family.

However, if the first theory was right then my parent's lives were still in danger. A danger that was fast approaching.

So, how do I determine which hypothesis is right?

Now that, is the real fucking question.
