After my little tea party with Wrex, Shepard drew up battle plans with Kirrahe. They spent approximately 40 minutes looking over schematics and coming up with a plan. I don't know the details, but we are divided into two teams. Garrus and Ashley will join the salarians in distracting the geth. Myself, Shepard, Kaiden, Wrex, and Tali will infiltrate the compound.
We have to hike 16 miles in order to get behind the compound and take out any geth we see. Kirrahe requested we take out the communications equipment the geth used and Tali would point them out when she wasn't busy hacking. There was this one on the roof of a three-story structure that we almost missed. Thankfully I got it and took it out with my sniper rifle.
When we arrived at the compound, we surveyed the place and found the three places of interest. Tali pointed out the thing responsible for the pterodactyls (that is what I call the flying geth) and we marked it on our map as well as anything else we could do to help Kirrahe and the others. It was challenging to take out the geth, Krogan, and occasionally turian with only crates and those glowing hexagon shields. Thankfully we were able to eliminate them with a little effort. A bullet went right pass my head and triggered my anxiety. Wrex quickly apologized. I shook it off. Shepard hacked into the alarm system and told us our options.
"We can either set up an alarm, diverting anyone inside towards the salarians and make the fighting easier for us or silence them and deal with it ourselves" Shepard explained.
…
"Silencing it is" Shepard said.
Wrex and I get ready on the left-hand side of the door. I feel pumped and ready to surprise these pricks. Tali and Shepard are in front of us. Tali has her omni tool ready to hack the geth and turn them on their friends. Shepard nods and I kick the door open and blast the first Krogan I see. I then scurry behind a crate and enjoy the relaxing sounds of chaos. I take sweet pleasure in hearing the shocked voices of confused turians and Krogan being killed by their supposedly geth allies. I love getting others to work for me. We then move onto the next room, the research lab. It was not well guarded and was very easy to take care of. Wrex and I tried to find any data on the genophage cure. It was password protected and we are on a timer. Wrex almost destroyed the computer with his fist if Tali hadn't stop him. She pulled out the hard drive and said she would take a look later. He slowly lowers his arm. He looks hopeful. We were about to advance into the next room when I am stopped by a force near the door.
I tightly close my eyes. My face makes these strange expressions. Something feels really wrong. I tense my neck and roll it around. I run my eyes with one hand, my thumb on the left eyeball and pointer finger on the right.
"What's wrong?" Shepard asked.
"I don't know. I never felt this before. Do you guys feel that?" I ask.
"Feel what?" Tali asks.
"It's like some kind of energy messing with my very being. It's not overwhelming, but really annoying. You don't feel this?" I ask again.
"We don't feel anything" Wrex said.
"Ok. I can tough it out. Don't worry about me" I said. I sluggishly walk into the next room. It is full of glass jail cells of indoctrinated salarians. Shepard talks to a couple. I almost forget they are here. I am completely horrified with what I am seeing. I use one of my special tricks to see their "auras." It's more how their body used their energy. People have a certain flow, strength, and color to it. Not these salarians.
The energy is so rigid and immobile. It's jagged. Sharp diagonal lines and randomness going in all directions. No smooth curves like gently flowing water. So many different colors, all of them ugly and repulsive. I don't even know how they are alive. They should be dead. In all my years of experience, the things I saw and how they affected people, I never seen anything remotely close to this.
I make no attempt to hide the shock in my voice. "Shepard, I am a compassionate man due to the pain I have felt. I didn't want people to experience what I did, so I try to make it easier for those around me. But this, what I can sense. I do not know if it is more merciful to let them go or to put them down" I really hope death will reset their soul's energy. The popping out from death/near death experiences can reset things. I have no idea if it will work or even if they will be fixed, if they can be fixed. No amount of therapy will fix this.
"Guys be ready just in case. I have to let them out" Shepard releases the one who appears to have kept his marbles. He was definitely affected, but I think he will be fine. The others left us no choice but to kill them. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell if death fixed their souls or not. They are gone. They're in the energetic portion of the universe now. We have to move on. The reapers are the evilest things I have ever witness. I killed people who tortured for fun, enslaved the masses for their own pleasure, not even communists come this close to what I just saw. Disrupting the eternal energy of the soul for what exactly? To sow chaos? I'm not going to feel bad about destroying the reapers. Crap I forgot about Edi and Legion. We'll have to wait and see.
We ride the elevator up into Saren's office. The asari neurologist explains indoctrination. I don't listen. I'm sending out messages to others like me if they can fix them or how to do it. There has to be someone who knows how to fix it. I'm intermediate in my skills, they will need a professional. Tali grabs my arm and shakes me out of my headspace. Shepard left the asari leave and we enter. Shepard heads down and comes into contact with another prothean beacon. The data flows into his brain. He falls to one knee. I help my commander onto his feet. He looks shrivled.
Kaiden asks "what did you see?"
Shepard responds "I'm not sure but I think everything is about to come together. I have a bad feeling about all this."
We head back up to the platform. I see the deep ruby colored hologram that is sovereign. This is it. Now they will know how much danger the galaxy is in, and with what I just saw with indoctrination, it's a lot worse than what I thought was going to happen.
