A deep menacing voice is produced from the red being hovering over the platform.
"You are not Saren" it said.
"Who is the angry scarab" I ask.
"What is this? Some kind of VI interface?" Kaiden asks.
"Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind fumbling in ignorance. Incapable of understanding" it replies.
"I don't think this is a VI" Tali nervously said.
"There is a realm so far from your existence you can't even imagine it…" well he is right about that part.
"I am beyond your comprehension. I am sovereign" the reaper said.
"Sovereign isn't some reaper ship Saren found, it's an actual reaper" Shepard said. Goosebumps form everywhere on my body.
"Reaper? A label created by the protheans to give voice to their destruction. In the end, what they chose to call us is irrelevant. We simply are" sovereign said.
"The protheans vanished 50,000 years ago. You couldn't have been there. It is impossible" Wrex said.
"Organic life is nothing more than a genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades. You wither and die. We are eternal. The pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything" sovereign said
"There is an entire galaxy of races united and ready to face you" Shepard said with confidence.
"Confidence born of ignorance. The cycle cannot be broken" sovereign claims.
"Cycle? What cycle?" Kaiden asks.
"The pattern has repeated itself more times than you can fathom. Organic civilizations rise, evolve, advance, and at the apex of their glory, are extinguished. The protheans were not the first. They did not create the citadel, they did not forge the mass relays, they merely discovered them. The legacy of my kind" sovereign revealed.
Shepard asks "why would you construct the mass relays and leave them for someone else to find?"
Sovereign explains "Your civilization is based on the technology of the mass relays. Our technology. By using it, your society develops along the paths that we desire. We impose order on the chaos of organic evolution. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it."
Wrex said "They are harvesting us! Letting us advance to the level they need and wiping us out."
"What do you want from us? Slaves? Resources?" Shepard demands answers.
"My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each of us a nation. Independent. Free from all weakness. You cannot even grasp the nature of our existence" sovereign said.
"You're not even alive. Not really. You are a machine and machines can be broken" the spectre threatens the ancient behemoth.
"Your words are as empty as your future. I am the vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over." The windows explode behind us. I fall down in pain. It feels like someone is drilling into all sides of my skull at once and maxing the volume of nails on a chalk board. Tali comes to my side and tries to sooth me. Thankfully the pain doesn't last long. That was an 8.5/10. I take a minute to get up. Shepard said Joker informed him sovereign is leaving and we need to head to the breeding facility. The commander asks if I can still fight.
"Shepard. After everything I saw today. They wore out my mercy. Let's make them beg for it."
