T: The Night Before

Disclaim: I do not own Saiyuki or the story 'A visit from St. Nick' or whatever it's name is. First Saiyuki fic.

There standing alone in the middle of the woods was a house, an old two story farm house that had seen better days. The trees had grown close enough to the house to touch it at places, in others it seemed as if the trees were trying to grow into the house. The forest, had in fact, began the process of reclaiming the area the house had taken up as its own once again. The color of the abandoned house, as that's what it was, showed some splashes of white where some stubborn chips had managed to withstand time, but the majority of the wood was bare and had started to turn a shade of gray. The windows were covered with dirt and filth from both the inside and outside, yet for some reason none been broken yet; this occurrence was the first that told of some strange energy that seemed to surround the house.

Just as the outside was weather-beaten and rundown, so too the inside looked just as abandoned. Upon entering, past a door that opened without a sound, lay the main entrée hall. The hall, as one would find out the rest of the house as well, was covered in at least an inch thick. In some various places there where dust ponies, as the term bunnies couldn't cover something quite so huge. The largest bunny was the size of a small dog, while the smallest was well over the size of a rat. Cobwebs could be seen hanging on almost every part of the ceiling, while in the left doorway a web stretched across touching the floor. The right doorway appeared clear, but what lay beyond seemed to be nothing but a dark abyss, one that seemed to swallow any light that dared to try to enter it. Continuing on the stairwell was to be seen. The stair case too was covered in dust, however, it lacked the cobwebs, and as the door it made not a sound when used. Ascending the staircase left one with a sense of doom. Once up, one could look into any of the doors of the open bed rooms and see broken furniture. However all other rooms aside, one seemed to call to any one unlucky enough to wander into the house. One that as luck would have it was at the end of the long hallway. Passing the seamlessly unending number of rooms, all unable, even if someone tried to, to make a noise. Coming upon the room the door was closed, and pressing it open a startling sight could be seen. As every other room was dark, this was lit by an unseen source, just as while others were bare or contained broken furniture, this room was fully furnished with child's toys as well as a bed, and a small table and chair set, the kind someone would see a young girl playing tea at. This room was also not as frightfully cold as the rest of the house, and had a small fire burning in its fire place, one that was almost inviting.

And unlike the rest of the house, this was not silent. Almost as if to mock any rational thoughts, a small childlike voice could be heard, "Twas the night before Christmas…"

Entering the room the sight of a blond haired girl could be seen, "…and all through the house…"

Her face however was not to the door, entering the room further, the room only appeared more and more inviting. "…not a creature was stering…"

The room suddenly changed and darkened and turned sinister when she turned toward the door.
