Hey-ho, all. I just finished reading Chapter 13 of Danny's Inferno by Legend Maker, which is one of the greatest works of literary might to ever appear of the face of , and I got all inspired-like. So I wrote this angsty little piece. Hope you like it!

Disclaimer: I do not own Danny Phantom. Butch Hartman does. I do own an altar to him, though.

As It All Comes Tumbling Down

No.

This can't be how it's supposed to be.

He was supposed to save everyone. He was supposed to be the hero. He was supposed to be strong.

But he wasn't. He'd watched, helpless, as the people he'd known, cared about, loved more than anything were killed, sucked screaming into the gigantic, swirling…thing above him.

Dash, Paulina, Valerie, Jack, Maddie, Jazz, Tucker, Sam…even Danny Fenton.

Danny Phantom watched them all slip through his fingers.

He'd tried to save them. Lord knows he tried. He'd grab one only to see two more meet their doom. He'd exhausted himself trying to save them all. But it just wasn't enough.

He'd handled everything before. The Box Ghost, Poindexter, the Lunch Lady, Desiree, the Ghost Dragon, the Fright Knight, Johnny 13, Spectra, Walker, Ember, Technus, Skulker, Plasmius…so many had come against him, and he'd always been able to rise above them in a blaze of glory.

But not against this. Not against the swirling mass of green and black, the very essence of the Ghost Zone swallowing up everything he knew.

The connection had always been unstable, which was understandable considering it connected almost polar opposites. Every second the two existing Ghost portals stood open brought the inevitability closer to reality. Humanity's curiosity bumped it up to yesterday.

Jack had been doing no more than a routine check when something had caught his eye, a small anomaly within the connection his precious machine had to the realm of the restless dead. Curious, he had started fiddling with the chips and components just as Danny had descended down the stairs…

An explosion ripped the link wide open, and the Ghost Zone started to slowly suck the world into its decaying maw.

And now Danny Phantom stood as buildings around him ripped free of their foundations and fell up into the mutated sky. Apocalypse swirled around him, and all he could do was stare at the spot where his life and his love had disappeared forever.

"Danny…Sam…but I…"

He felt himself being lifted, but it didn't register.

"How…you were right there…why…why couldn't I…"

The sky drew nearer.

"I wanted to save you…"

A rumble echoed throughout the heavens.

"But I couldn't…"

And oblivion took him.

End

Yay for the end of the world! :happy dance: Review please!
