Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Order of Merlin, 1st Class, was a very busy man. He constantly had work to do – for Hogwarts, for the Order, and for the people he cared for. His time was literally sucked up by hundreds of thousands of tiny little things that people were begging him to do, every minute of every day. It got very frustrating, and that's why…
And that's why, at this moment, Albus Dumbledore was doing absolutely nothing at all.
The aged Headmaster sat behind his desk with Fawkes sitting on one fist. He traced designs on the bright plumage of the bird with one of his long fingers, those famous sparkling blue eyes staring off into space. A few candles flickered around the room, giving it a homey ambiance. A small clock ticked in the distance, nearing the 11th hour, and one of the paintings of the Headmasters snored in his sleep, but Dumbledore just kept staring. Ten seconds…. Nine…. Fawkes squawked once and Dumbledore smiled lightly… Five…. Four… Three to go…. Two….
The door to the office creaked open, and Professor Sibyl Trelawney stepped into the room. Dumbledore nodded – as if he had been expecting her…? – and lifted his fist, letting Fawkes fly to his perch. Quickly, he got a piece of parchment and a quill, and looked up at Sibyl. "So…. It has happened then?"
She nodded, her huge eyes blinking blindly behind her giant glasses as beads clinked. Dumbledore sighed. "And do you remember?"
"Yes, I do recall. Shall I repeat the words to you, Albus?"
The wizard nodded again. Sibyl began to speak, her voice taking on an (rather fake) air of mysticism. Dumbledore either didn't notice, or ignored it – but he dutifully copied down the words the Divinations Professor spoke, sometimes interrupting to ask her to repeat something (to her frustration), or clarification.
And the clock continued to tick lightly in the background.
