This was inspired by a picture of Dark standing alone in an open black vest laced with black string against a black/red background, in case anyone's familiar with the picture. To be honest, I was dissatisfied with the end of the series, but there was a certain tragic beauty to the fact that nobody really seemed to understand Dark or care when he sealed himself away. It was also ironic that I think a lot of viewers did feel they understood him but for obvious reasons could never communicate that to him. I'm not much for poetry and have no flair for fanfiction, but I gave it a try anyway.
The Untouchable Book Hero
In your world, which amounts to a few pounds of paper in my hands,
Admiring gazes follow you in all you do,
Innately attracted to you as moths to a light,
Senseless flapping things
That comprehend not that which they worship.
They love you, yet they love you not,
Admiring the strength and beauty of your deeds,
Oblivious to the courageous passions that drive them.
It's painful, isn't it?
Their ignorant not-love is lonelier than being forgotten.
How could they know that at this pivotal moment,
Beneath your calm exterior,
With a grim sense of duty, you are accepting
Your role as sacrifice and savior
For a world
That will cry for you without weeping
After you seal yourself away along with
The threat you sheltered them from seeing
And bear the weight of eternity alone.
You noted all along, with strained indifference,
That you could never be remembered
Because you protected them from knowing the truth;
Showed them a wild, free champion and omitted
The inevitable fate you knew you'd suffer.
They will never know the heaviness of your sacrifice
And they can not remember what they did not understand.
I'm here.
I see that dark, painful vibrance in your eyes
But you can't see me.
You'll never know, will you?
That as you stand torn and fallen in this wasteland of despair,
You are truly seen; you are beautiful; you are loved.
