Back On The Bebop...

The news has reached Jet and Faye that Spike was killed in a fight with a member of the Red Dragon Syndicate, it seems that those who remained departed for parts unknown. Upon hearing this, Faye slowly leaves the living quarters and makes her way to her room. Faye sits quietly for a few moments before she can no longer control her grief. "WHY? Why did you leave? You said that you would return, you jerk! Now I am hearing that you aren't coming back! Why?!?! Please tell me that this is all a lie, just a nightmare that I will wake up from and things will be the same as they were before you left here last." Faye pauses for a moment to pinch herself, winces in pain and continues, "All this is a mistake," she pauses and adds softly,"you can't be dead." More time passes and now, too emotionally drained to continue, Faye leaves her room to take a long bath in hopes that it may help some.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Several years have passed since that dismal day for Faye and we find Ed and Ein returning to the Bebop. Upon finding only Jet and Faye on-board, Ed asks on the whereabouts of Spike. Even though time has passed, Faye excuses herself from the room, not wanting to be present while Jet tells Ed all that had happened after she and Ein had left.

"She doesn't want to believe that Spike is gone for good," Jet explains afterward. "She is still holding on to some hope that he will return someday." Jet looks toward the direction that Faye had left then back at Ed. "She won't let me talk to her about it. Maybe you can talk to her and get her to come to her senses and finally accept the truth."

Ed nods in acknowledgement, "I will give it a try," she says and heads off to find Faye.

Ed finds Faye in her room crying. "Would you like to talk things out," Ed asks as she pulls up a seat. "It may help some," she adds.

"Not really," Faye replies as she wipes her eyes, "every time I think about Spike and that day, I can't help but cry. Some days are harder for me than others."

"Jet has told me that you refuse to believe that Spike is really gone. Is that true," Ed asks gently.

"I guess so, I mean, one of the last things that he said to me was that he wasnt going to go to that place to die, which should have meant that he had every intention of returning," Faye replies as she reaches for some more tissues.

"Is that all, wasn't there something else as well," Ed gives Faye time to think it over some.

"Not that I can recall, that is what I believe that I heard," Faye replies as she shakes her head.

Ed readjusts herself in her seat. "Did you know that Jet claims that he overheard what Spike had told you? He claims that he heard Spike say, 'I'm not going there to die, I am going there to find out if I am really alive.' Does that sound somewhat accurate?"

"I don't know," Faye sobs, " I always thought that he meant to come back. Oh Ed, I want nothing more than him to be here and to have things like they were before, we may have had our disagreements but I think thatI may have," Faye pauses, "may still love him." Faye thows her arms around Ed and begins to sob uncontrollably.

As Ed holds Faye tightly in her arms she says,"It's going to be fine Faye, Faye, I'll help you though this and I'm sure that Jet will too, you are not alone."

Faye smiles through her tears, " I thought I told you to just call me 'Faye'."

"Gotcha," Ed grins.
