Chapter 8

Pippa woke early the next morning to an empty deck. Jack/Meg's makeshift bed was empty. She smiled.

Deciding that Jack would probably have kept Meg up all night and that she wouldn't be getting up any time soon, Pippa headed down to the galley to get a head start on the potato peeling. As she entered the galley, she saw that the potatoes were not only already peeled but fully prepared for the meal that night.

"Meg?"

Meg was slumped in the corner, absentmindedly carving shapes into the floor of the ship. Pippa walked over and knelt down next to her.

"Meg, are you okay?" Pippa asked, "What happened?"

Meg shook her head, "Nothing happened."

"What do you mean nothing happened? Meg, did he hurt you?" Pippa asked.

Meg shook her head: "No, no...he was the perfect gentleman."

"So, why are you all Eeyore Meg and not Tigger Meg?" Pippa asked. She smiled cheekily, "Was he crap in bed?"

Meg looked at Pippa in disbelief: "Pippa Halliwell, those words did not just leave your mouth!"

"Yeah, they did! Well, was he?"

Meg sighed: "I don't know. We never got anywhere."

"Anywhere as in?"

"As in anywhere! Nothing happened!"

"Hello earth to Meg, he invited you down to his cabin. Something must have happened."

"Earth to Pippa, it didn't! He just told me I should sleep up on deck with you!" Meg explained, "I was stupid thinking that anything could have happened."

"Earth to Meg! Don't you think it's possible he just got freaked out?" Pippa suggested.

"Earth to Pippa, he's Captain Jack Sparrow. He's done all this amazing stuff. He's taken on undead pirates, he's ransacked Nassau Port without even firing a shot, he's escaped the noose countless times. He doesn't get freaked out!"

"Earth to Meg! He doesn't get freaked out fighting countless bad guys and naval officers because he's done it so much! Admitting his true feelings to a woman whilst sober is something he's not so good at and it's scary for him!" Pippa explained, "He does get freaked out."

Meg sighed: "I guess you're right."

"Of course I'm right. I'm always right!" Pippa said, with a satisfied grin.

Meg rolled her eyes.

"Give him some time. He'll get it out in time."

Meg wiggled her eyebrows: "I'm sure he will!"

"Ata girl! That's the spirit!" Pippa laughed. She turned her attention to the peeled and prepared potatoes: "So what do we do for the rest of the day?"

"Well had we been in 2004, I would have suggested a PJ day with Sandra Bullock movies and old episodes of 'Friends', 'Charmed', 'Will & Grace' and 'Coupling'." Meg said, "But since we're not..."

"A good bit of female bonding is in order." Pippa announced. Seeing Meg's look she quickly added: "I said bondING."

Meg smiled: "So, what's your story?"

"My what?" Pippa asked.

"Your story. You know, who is Pippa Halliwell? You know loads about me like where I'm from, what happened with me and my family, my favourite 'Friends' character, the real reason I go to the cinema all the time. So what about you?"

"The real reason you go to the cinema all the time?" Pippa asked, curiously.

"Oh, I didn't tell you that one, eh?" Meg blushed.

"No you didn't. What is the..."

"This is about you, not my shameful secrets!" Meg swiftly cut in.

"Okay, but you're telling me that one later!" Pippa insisted.

"Deal." Meg shook Pippa's outstretched hand, "So, anyway go on. Tell me about you."

"About me? Well there isn't much to tell. I live with my parents and 4 older brothers. I moved to America at the age of 15 and moved back to Britain about a week before I ended up here."

Meg looked at Pippa in disbelief: "That cannot be it!"

"That's it! I lead a very boring life! I have the perfect family. My parents are rich lawyer types and they lavish money and gifts on me and my brothers all the time, I have everything I could ever want!" Pippa admitted. She didn't sound like she had the perfect life. She sounded like it was a chore having what most people would see as a perfect life.

"Yeah that's it basically, although..." Pippa started.

"Although what?" Meg asked suddenly interested. "Come on this is a sharing thing, I've shared with you so now it's your turn. Don't hold back on me now girl."

They both laughed.

"Okay you promise you wont say anything until I'm completely finished?" Pippa asked becoming serious.

"I promise, cross my heart." Meg said crossing her heart.

"I hate it." Pippa explained, "I hate being everyone's little princess! My parents are never around and when they are all they talk about is work. They never show any interest in me and what I'm interested in."

"Aw Pippa." Meg pulled her friend into a hug.

"'Pirates' was my way out. I got it the day it came out and I've watched it at least once every day since. When I watched it, I could escape. I could pretend that I was there. That I was one of them. So when I ended up here, it was like a dream come true. I felt like I belonged." Pippa explained, "Then I met Will and..."

Pippa was cut off by a sudden large jolt to the ship. The potatoes and the girls got thrown over to the other side of the galley.

"What's going on?" Meg asked, throwing potatoes off herself.

"I'm gonna take a wild guess that we're under attack!" Pippa said.

"Oh okay, loud bangs, big heavy projectiles flying towards us and almost certain death. I can handle that!" Meg said, sarcastically as the ship jolted again.

"Can you fight?" Pippa asked.

"About as well as Owen Wilson can sing!" Meg replied.

"So no then." Pippa said, "Bollocks!"

She got up and headed over towards the door of the galley, managing to stay vertical even when the ship was rocked by more cannonfire.

"Stay here." Pippa instructed, "You'll be safe down here."

Famous last words, Meg thought as Pippa darted out of the galley.

Meg was frightened. She wasn't going to pretend she wasn't. Jack and Pippa and all her friends were up on deck fighting off some unknown foe while she was down below freaking out. It wasn't the most fun situation in the world.

After a few minutes and more jolts the ship went quiet. Meg thought the worst and decided to chance a look up on deck. She walked up the stairs only to be grabbed by someone she didn't recognize. She opened her mouth to scream but a hand quickly covered her mouth. Frantically Meg looked round for anybody who could help her but the crew had all been tied to the mast. She noticed that Pippa and Jack had also been gagged. Unfortunately that was all she had time to notice before another member of the invading crew smacked her across the back of the head with something hard.

Jack saw Meg get hit and was overcome with the sudden urge to slash the perp's throat.

"You! Take her to 'The Spanish Rose'" The perp said, pointing to one of the many latinos who'd invaded the ship.

The guy flung Meg over his shoulders and swung back to the other ship with her.

Jack, struck by a sudden idea, began to try and bite the gag away rather unsuccessfully. He rolled his eyes and began to shout: "Pareh! Pareh!"

"I think the Captain's trying to tell us something." One of the invading pirates noted.

One of the others walked over to Jack and pulled the gag out of the way. The phrase 'parley' shot out of Jack's mouth. The invading pirates looked at each other then at the pirate who'd hit Meg, who had a 'what-are-you- waiting-for?' kind of look on his face.

One of them drew his sword and untied Jack. He held his sword toward the base of his back and jabbed him.

"Hey, don' forget who ye're dealin' with, mate!" Jack scolded him.

The pirate smiled and jabbed Jack again. Jack rolled his eyes and walked in the direction he was being so rudely led.

Once on board 'El Mariachi', Jack was forced to wait for what seemed like an eternity. He spent his time looking round the ship. All of the crewmembers seemed to be of latin origin and they were all gawping at him like he was an attraction at a zoo. Jack was tempted to snap but he thought better of it. He suddenly felt a hand on his shoulder and he spun round with the shock. A tall, dark, quite attractive man was stood behind him: "The Captain is waiting for you."

Jack followed the guy down below deck to the Captain's cabin. The door was opened and Jack was led in.

There was a dark figure stood in the room with Jack and his 'friend'. He was shrouded in darkness so Jack was unable to work out whether he was friend or foe.

"Captain Sparrow of 'The Black Pearl', Captain."

"Gracias, Lorenzo." The Captain said.

Lorenzo turned and left the Captain's to it. There was a long pause before the Captain of 'The Spanish Rose' turned round. Jack face lit up in recognition.

"Bootstrap!"

******

Dun, dun duuuuun! Oh yeah! I've made Bootstrap Spanish! Whatcha gonna do about it? Eh? Eh? Ha, ha! I was having a conversation with one of my friends a while back about how I have 3 people to drool over in PotC and she only has 2 and I said: "Wouldn't it be cool if Antonio Banderas was Bootstrap? Coz then I get 4 people! Ha, ha!" and so that's what I've done, kinda. I imagine Bootstrap as AB in 'Desperado' and 'OUATIM'.

Apologies for the short chapter. I couldn't make it any longer without going into my plan for the next chapter. (Oh yeah! I have a plan!) You'll just have to get over it! And also double apologies for my 'Zoolander' "Earth to..." bits at the start! I couldn't resist!

Next chapter, Will, Lizzie, Kate (OC, close friend) and possibly Norrington depending on how much 'Coupling' I watch beforehand!
