A girl, just barely a woman, woke from a fitful slumber with a pounding head and no idea of anything other than, 'Gee that stream looks peaceful.' Slowly she looked around and she saw another body next to her but that person was dead. And she scrambled away in fear that maybe death could be caught. She shrieked irrationally and her screech kept going until a body clad in a radiant white appeared at the edge of the small grove. She stood stock-still and silent, eyeing the intruder warily and wearily.
The intruder began to speak in a language she did not understand and moreover, she had no idea what language she did understand so she stood dumbly. Suddenly, a gentle 'touch' breezed across her mind and she got caught in a maelstrom of thoughts and 'voices' that were not her own. The foremost thought rang loudly and clearly in her blank mind.
"Who is this beautiful creature? Am I imagining her or is she really there? Why does she not reply? Does she speak? Is she Valdemaran? Is she a spy for the enemy?: a rich voice came pouring into her mind like a high waves of the sea. The voice was too such it was like acid on her mind and she struck out with her mind and the man fell over stunned. He got up quickly and looked at her in shock and anger.
:WHAT THE HELL!:
:Please. do no. Please. stop. Hurts. Much. Please. Quiet. Please,: her soft mind voice plead more pitifully than he thought possibly.
:Can you speak?: he asked as softly as he could.
:No. I remember nothing before waking up.:
:You have no idea as to who you are, where you are or how to speak?:
:Yes. Yes. And I do not know what language I speak. Where am I?:
:Forest of Sorrows in Valdemar.:
:I vaguely recall something like that in my mind. Can we explore this forest please?: she asked. Her mind voice was so child-like and naively innocent that he could not deny her.
