Disclaimer: Brian Jaques' (Or is it Jaques's?). Not mine.
Author's Note: One of my reviewers suggested that I do a Fallen Heroes poem collection, after reading my first poem for Laterose. I don't remember who you are, because that was a while ago, but thanks to whoever that was. It stuck in my mind and I've finally gone on with it. Do NOT read if you are going to read Brian Jaques' Mossflower and plan to. It's not a major spoiler, but I'd hate to know ahead of time. By the way, have any of you read the newest Redwall book in the series? Loamhedge? I finally read it, and I absolutely love it! Not my favorite, though.
Mask
Blend in, blend out-
First an otter, now a tree.
Fade away invisibly.
When you're all alone you're free.
Stay strong, no doubt-
Keep one cause, for it is true.
Adventure is calling you.
You must do all you can do.
Road blocked, different route,
There will always be a way.
Fail? Then try another day.
If you die, then that's okay.
One thrust, no shout.
Still he kept friends moving on.
To such danger he was drawn,
Then he smiled, and then was gone.
That's what he was all about-
Dying is an easy task.
Blend awhile and you will last,
Then you die and wear a mask.
Blend in, blend out-
Now you need no longer hide
Sunny streams need no disguise
Please hear all our fond goodbyes.
