Jubilee woke up so slowly that the dream she was having seemed to overflow in to reality. She had been petting a cat that she had been cupping to her chest. She could even swore she had felt it purring.

Blink by blink she came around until she realized that she was alone in her room.

She yawned slowly and sat up. He body was still telling her that she had been holding a cat. Her arm and chest felt warm where she thought it had been laying.

Her eyes slowly focused on the clock. It was 10:18 in the morning.

"Oh, no!" She realized with a start that it was Saturday.

Scott's words drifted through her mind. Everyone who wants to go to the monster truck show had better be downstairs by nine…

Her throat closed slightly at the idea. Why didn't they wake me? Everyone knew I wanted to go…

She slipped on her fuzzy bunny slippers and peered cautiously out the door. The hall was empty. She pulled her nightshirt down toward her knees and made a rush for the bathroom. She knocked once and the door opened without resistance.

Hunh? She wondered. I never get in without a fight.

A moment later she slipped out and cast her eyes around the hallway. Most of the hallway doors were open, at least a crack, but she realized with a start that the mansion was quiet.

Too weird. She thought, slowly walking back towards her room. It's never quiet on a Saturday morning.

But it was today.

Jamie was not blaring cartoons.

Scott was not in the danger room.

Jean and Kitty were not chatting it up and Beast was not cranking out breakfast in the kitchen.

She walked the mansion quietly.

Xavier was not reading his paper in the study.

Storm was not tending her garden.

And Logan was not in his hammock out back.

"Aww man…" She looked up in frustration. "Don't tell me…"

But it was true. The doors were locked and the security system set to 'active'.

She was alone.

Two hours, a shower and two bowls of Fruity Pebbles later, the front door burst open. A sea of excited faces and shouts flooded in all ranting and raving about the wonders of the event.

"Wasn't it awesome when Gold-Digger flipped while crushing those busses?" Bobby asked her, his excited face all aglow with the memory.

But he didn't wait for a reply. "What about when Rock-zilla shot that flame thrower? It must have fone a hundred yards!" Sam was still breathing heavy from the excitement.

"Yeah. Awesome." Jubilee agreed amid the sea of shouts before slowly slipping away and quietly climbing the stairs.

She stopped and looked down at them all, milling about below her. Logan was just wheeling Xavier in the door with Storm just behind them, all smiling wide and looking slightly flushed.

She turned away and slipped back up to her room then closed the door.

"I wish I had a cat." She said softly before throwing herself miserably down on to her bed.

A short time later a knock fell on her door. "Jubilee. Training session out back in half an hour." Scott called.

"Okay." She replied, trying not to sound too hurt.

She took several deep breaths and wiped here eyes before looking in the mirror. It was no good. She could tell she had been crying.

"Suck it up girl." She told herself under her breath. "You have to do this. You're a mutant."

She swallowed. I'm a mutant… I'm just not a person.
