Changing Tides

This was not what he wanted.

He had been so excited when he and Gimli had started out along the straight road that would lead them to Valinor.

He had waited so long that for the last few years of Aragorn's life had done nothing but complain about things. The Sea Longing, building a boat, Aragorn dying...the normal things he had to live with.

Now that he was on the rolling seas, he wished and prayed fervently that soon he would reach dry land and throw himself upon its non moving earth.

Gimli came up from the cabin they had built big enough for the both of them and all their supplies needed and joined him at the rail, watching the waves rolling the boat about.

"Why don't you go down and rest. You never know, it might settle you down a bit."

Legolas scowled at his dearest friend before going back to watching the endlessly bobbing horizon. "I doubt very much that would work Gimli. Leave me be.

Gimli shook his head before he laughed heartily. "I think our roles have been reversed. I was dreading this trip and you have been wanting it, longing for it, for many a long year. Now we are here I am enjoying every minute and you do nothing but sulk."

"I am not sulking." Legolas stated rather vehemently. He clutched at the railing and stared even further off at the horizon.

"Of course not, no respectable Elf would ever sulk. No, I will just leave you to your moods." He didn't move.

Legolas just nodded. That little action was enough for him to lose his control and, leaning over the edge, he went about losing what little he had managed to eat that day.

Who would have ever thought that a Dwarf, someone who ate almost as much as a Hobbit, would not so much as feel a twinge of illness, yet he, the Elf, the one who was not supposed to get sick was the one who suffered through sea sickness.

Oh yes, the Valar were definitely punishing him for waiting so long to sail West.

He would forever be grateful that this was a one way trip.

A/N - Alright, this insane bit of drivel just begged to be written from out of nowhere, I followed the demanding tone of my muse and here it is. Legolas sick, and with a reasonable explanation for him being so. Who knows...perhaps Elves can get seasick. It felt like the most hilarious idea. Especially considering how long Legolas waited for the journey.

Ah well, r/r please.
