She feels like maybe, just maybe, it's all going to be okay. Robin doesn't take her too seriously, but he doesn't dismiss her as a cheap whore with loose morals. He sees her as Faith. Just Faith.
And that's nice.
She turns, and looks across the aisle in the bus. She studies his face, sleeping while Giles drives. Half the girls are chattering excitedly, the rest asleep. Buffy, Dawn, Willow and Xander are all smiling contentedly like jackasses. But not in the way that made Faith want to give them a kick to the face.
Faith returns her eyes to Robin. His eyes open and he looks at her curiously. "Watching me?" he teases. "I mean, I know I'm dead sexy, but..."
"Shut up." Faith sticks her tongue out.
"Come here, you." Faith rolls her eyes, but moves over to sit next to Robin. Suddenly, she feels just like she did in third grade, when she saw the boy she liked sitting alone. "So," Robin purrs, "When are you going to give the chance to surprise you?"
Faith laughs and does a very unexpected thing. She reaches over and laces their fingers together.
"Whenever you think you can, baby."
