A Vow and A Promise
Chapter 1 : A Vow
Cries of pain were elicited from a small, huddled form at the corner of the room. With each new welt formed on his smooth skin, fresh waves of agony ran through the child's small, frail body. As the beatings stopped, his pained cries gradually faded. Shakily he stood up. Flipping his long silver hair over his shoulders, he sent a golden glare scathing enough to burn at his tormenter n the small crowd gathering there.
A deep menacing baritone cut off his angered thoughts.
"Do you realize your mistake now, snake?" The tall dark form that towered over him was none other than the head of the Souma household.
Souma Ayame. The snake in the jyuunishi. He had attempted to leave the main house to look for his parents. Just one month ago, they had left him here.
His heart ached for home. Yes, home, that's the closest word he could come up with for the place he had stayed for the last 7 years. Although there was no love in that house for him… not even from his own mother….
"He's cursed… he's a snake!! Not my child!!" A woman's voice rang out in the quiet of the night.
A deeper tone of a man's said, "Hush, he might hear you. He's sleeping now…."
"I don't care! I've never wanted him in the first place!! I want him gone!"
A child stood behind the closed door of his bedroom .Listening to every word. Tears trickled down his cheeks as he sobbed quietly. His mother had never wanted him..never loved him…
Then he heard the words that spelt his fate.
"Fine, we'll send him to the main house first thing in the morning"
Those painful words felt like a stab in his young heart..
He cried himself softly to sleep, leaning against the door of the room where he spent his last night of freedom.
Defiantly the child spat, "I did no wrong." In his opinion there was nothing wrong in wanting freedom, to get away from this accursed place. All he wanted was to get out of this house.
What more that he had to say was drowned out by fresh flames of agony burning all over his body.
The screams of agony continued till late evening. By then the young boy laid exhausted at the same corner. He leaned against the wall, thoughts still haunted by abandonment and plans for escape. His eyes still held that bright determined defiant light.
If they think they can beat me into submission, they're wrong…he thought.
A stream of light issued from the opened door, showing two small figures. Both had short brown and black hair. They walked over to their friend.
"Aya.."
Silence.
"Ha'ri…"a soft whisper..
Both started as Ayame looked up. Instead of the usual happy smiling mask he had, Ayame had a serious determined look in his eyes.
He stood up shakily and turned to leave the room .As he reached the door,
"One day…one day I'll leave this accursed place…I swear..and this time I'll not let anything hold me back"
A vow.
True to his words, Souma Ayame left the main house a few years later, neither caring about breaking the rules or leaving behind his only brother.
Ayame blinked. There's something moving in his vision. It took him a long time to realize that it was a hand waving in front of his face.
"Aya, what were you thinking that you actually failed to notice my presence? I'm so hurt…"
Shigure, no doubt. He hitched his mask back in place.
"Nothing but old memories…"
A/N: I'm not so sure but I assume that Aya left the main house when he's still in his teens. Not sure, just an assumption. Also I'm new to this anime. Don't blame me for being too ignorant ok?
thanx to shadowfrostthereaper for her help in checking my fic…
By the way, do you think I should continue with this or just leave it as it is?
