Author's Note: If you ever heard of the song that's used in this fic (or even saw or played the music!), you'll understand this.
Inside the ominous Dragon Gate, the evil Nergal was ready to conquer the world. He had Ninian and Nils in his clutches, ready to sacrifice them. The children were bind tightly and all hope was lost. The rest of the troops were battling the other bad guys and may not be able to reach them in time. The enigmatic dancer glanced down at her little brother with tears threatening to flood over her face.
"Brother?" she said sorrowfully.
"Yes, Sister?" the young bard answered back with the same dread in his expression.
"What shall we do? Lord Eliwood and his troops are too far away to save us and Nergal's going to start the sacrifice any minute now."
"If we weren't tied up right now, I would play for you," said Nils.
Nergal approached the children evilly, bearing his teeth in a malicious fashion. "Do either of you have any last requests that are reasonable?" he asked wickedly.
Nils looked at his feet, which were roped together. He then looked up at Ninian and felt depressed. Maybe… Maybe Nergal would let him make his sister feel better with a song. Yeah, that's it!
"L-Lord Nergal? I… I'd like to play a song for my sister. Can I do it?" Nils asked timidly.
"Sure, go right ahead," he replied.
"I can't because my arms are tied together. Can you untie me first?"
"Never! You'll just escape from my clutches again! Do you take this old man for a fool?!" Nergal raged.
Ninian looked at Nils and heaved a depressed sigh. There goes his plan.
"No, sir. I promise that I'll stay in this very chamber. All I want is to see my sister smile. Please, sir. Untie me and I'll play, then I'll sit back down and let you tie me up again." Nils even gave the evil madman the puppy-eyes to help persuade him.
"Grrr… Very well…" Nergal untied Nils, who casually stood up and stretched. "If you flee, the girl dies, understood?"
Nils nodded and took out his beloved flute. He looked at Ninian and Nergal, ready to play.
"Before I start, this song I'm about to play is a cute one I've heard before. It's called 'The Woodwind Polka'."
Nils began to play the song and pranced around the chamber while doing so. Ninian began to tap the heels of her feet on the floor to the beat of the song. Nergal, on the other hand, wasn't faring too well.
It was a happy little polka tune that made one think of lil woodland creatures dancing around in the happy forest. After completing the song and his little dance, Nils looked up at his sister's face. She was beaming and tried to clap her hands against her hips (she's still tied up, remember?).
"Ok, Nergal. I'm done. You can tie me back up now," said Nils.
Nergal glared at Nils with his eye twitching. "I… HATE… polka!" cried the madman. He ran straight at the door to flee, but he forgot that the door was shut tight. All he accomplished was knocking himself out cold.
Eliwood and his troops came into the chamber while Nils untied his sister. They gawked at the unconscious Nergal, then looked at the siblings for an answer.
"What in the world HAPPENED here?!" exclaimed Lowen.
"Guess what?! Nils defeated Nergal! It was amazing! He charged at him and whacked him repeatedly with the flute and it was just GREAT!" cheered Ninian. She didn't want to tell them the truth because who knows if they shared the same hatred for polka like Nergal?
"Great job, little guy!" Hector slapped Nils hard on his back a few times, nearly knocking him down.
"Oh… I-I did, huh?" Nils blushed slightly, surprised that what his musical skills could do.
"Let's celebrate!" called the tactician and they all left the Dragon's Gate.
