Break from revision made me write this. There are far too many dates in history.

I think it was inspired by something, but I have no bloody clue what. Typical me.

Enjoy!

Beauty and Perfection

To some Hobbits, Pippin is not beautiful, nor is he perfect. And enough people, lads and lasses and his own family, have told him this enough times to force him to tears whenever Merry tells him how much he loves him.

Red marks stand out against pale skin on his back and legs. There is a thin, white line on his left side -a result of running through Fangorn Forest. Small, almost invisible scars cover his wrists, from where the rope cut into them.

He is slightly too thin, and slightly too pale to be healthy. He hasn't lost many of the freckles that all young Hobbits have, and seems to have had the same cough for the past year.

He is too childish as far as his family are concerned, and still needs a candle lit by his bed when he sleeps. He has nightmares which means he spends hours at night staring at a wall, scared of shadows.

But Merry has these problems as well. His skin is covered in cuts and dents and scars. He has nightmares, and fears thing he knows aren't there.

And Merry thinks Pippin is beautiful and perfect. And Pip thinks the same about Merry. And Merry thinks that is far more important than what lads and lasses and Pippin's own family think.
