Chapter 2 -(five years after the birth of the half-demon, Inuyasha)-

"Sesshomaru, why doesn't Papa come home anymore?" Inuyasha asked one night, while the two of them were star gazing. Sesshomaru still hated Inuyasha, but that night, five years ago, when he had witnessed the fight between his father and mother about him, he saw his mother's face in sorrow for the first time. He resolved to never see that face again. Even if it meant showing kindness to his brother.

"Sesshomaru?" Sesshomaru heard Inuyasha's voice calling him out of his thoughts.

"Hm?" he was jerked back to the present. "I'm sorry, Inuyasha. What was that?" Inuyasha looked down at his feet.

"Never mind." He said quietly. Sesshomaru pasted a disappointed look on his face.

"Aww, c'mon, Inuyasha. I'm your brother, right?" He swatted Inuyasha playfully on his head and hit his ears in the process. The ears. The sign of a half-demon. What a weakling. These thoughts passed through his head in a second.

"Hey, that hurt!" whined Inuyasha. Sesshomaru laughed and started tickling him.

"Oh yeah? How's that?" Inuyasha tittered and tickled back.

"No you don't, Inuyasha! Ha, I gotcha!…….

Sesshomaru lay awake on the rock floor. He couldn't sleep. He sighed heavily and went outside. He wasn't looking and he nearly bumped into a large figure outside. Sesshomaru took a step back and looked at who he had bumped into. He saw silver hair tied back and a large sword hung by the stranger's waist. His father. The infamous Tarasha; the humanlike dog demon who had married a human. A month after the marriage, they had found an abandoned dog-demon: Sesshomaru. They kept him and took care of him, but Sesshomaru was disliked by his father and he knew why. When Inuyasha was born, all hope of pleasing his father disappeared.

His father ignored Sesshomaru and side-stepped to enter the cave. Before Tarasha went in, Sesshomaru asked the question that had caused him such pain for years.

"Father, why do you favor Inuyasha more than you favor me?" Tarasha froze and slowly turned to face his son. He came up to him and traced the moon mark on Sesshomaru's forehead. Tarasha's finger was like fire on Sesshomaru's skin. Tarasha moved his hand to Sesshomaru's head.

"How old are you, Sesshomaru?" he asked, his breath like ice on his face. Sesshomaru looked his father straight in the eyes.

"Nine, father. " Tarasha seemed amused.

"And what makes you think I favor Inuyasha? Don't be afraid to answer, Sesshomaru." Sesshomaru was in such a rush to tell him that the words got caught in his throat. He swallowed. Tarasha smirked and headed inside the cave.

"Hm. No answer, Sesshomaru? Then think about what you said and ask yourself if-" Sesshomaru ran up to him and pounded his father's chest and shouted,

"No! You love him more than I and you know it, Papa! You hurt me and I never showed a thing until now because of Mama. I heard you that night. I heard you! You made Mama cry. You were fighting because of me." Sesshomaru's voice was hoarse now.

"I'm a full demon, Papa. I'm better than that HALF BREED!!!!! " Tarasha pushed Sesshomaru away and Sesshomaru knelt, supporting himself up with his hands.

"You're right, Sesshomaru." His father said. " Inuyasha is a half breed. Which is why I like him more than you. You, Sesshomaru, are a spitting image of myself. I've hated myself more than anything until Kaeyo knocked some sense into me. You're just like I was fifteen years ago. You're nothing as I was. It's a pity that there's no one can change you." Tarasha walked inside and left Sesshomaru; his sobs echoing into the night.
