((author's note: poem was a class assignment in 8th grade. put in LotR category cause it's about the Golden Hall and the Rohirric flag and such. enjoy.))
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Is a horse of white on a field of green
The symbol of my only home,
To which I always return after I roam.
Painted on spear and shield,
Engraved on a dagger-blade to which the enemies yield,
Woven into a flag that waves in the sun,
'Tis the sign of victory when battle is done.
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Is a noble knight with ears sharp and eyes keen,
Awaiting patiently a signal from his king
That swords shall clash and bow-strings shall sing.
Skilled in battle, he waits to fight,
Whether it is by day or by night.
Oh! How he longs to prove he is brave,
But only fate can tell if he shall his kingdom save.
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen
While riding over fields of green,
Is the sight of my homeland from far away,
And I know no place else I can longer stay.
The sight of the Golden Hall on its high hill
Nearly makes my heart go still!
And when I stop at the king's graves to mourn,
Their death, simbelmyne flowers seem to have borne.
But THE most beautiful thing I've ever seen
On a new morn, fresh and clean,
Is God's glory being shown through His creation
Oh, how my soul gets a wonderful sensation!
'Tis His glory being shown in all the living creatures,
In the flowers, in the trees, in all the Earth's features,
In the Sun, our nearest star, which is hotter than flame,
And in the Ocean, ever-changing yet always the same.
