"Breaking the Silence"
By: DilutedOblivion

A/N: Nothing special really. Inuyasha is the property of its creators, distributors, etc...I'm just borrowing its characters for the sake of satisfying my creativity. I mean no harm, I don't. bow

So, this is a Rin/Sesshomaru story that lacks romance and fluff, which have been deftly replaced with contemplation. It's very short, but I think...it works.

He hardly speaks to me, but I do not complain. I understand.

I think I understand.

I walk beside him, he beside me. In silence. Occasionally, words are exchanged. Only occasionally.

Sometimes, words are unnecessary.

It's enough that he's here. I do not question if my presence is of any value to him. My gratitude, eternal. He permits me to stay. That is enough for me.

We walk the same path, but in different directions...

I hardly know him. What he is, who he is, what will become of him. It's certain that the lord is a strong man. A man whose voice resonates within the sword that dangles around his waist. Immense strength in simple strokes. Strength of power, and of heart.

But where does his heart lie?

A stoic face counters his beauty. Emotionless. His expressions number few, if not none. But they exist, even if he seldom speaks. I know it in my own heart that his exists deep within. And it is a beautiful heart, hidden beneath the layers of his unyielding resolve. This I will never question.

Because he kept me.

And that, in itself, speaks a thousand words.
