I roll the window
down
And then begin to breathe in
The darkest country road
And
the strong scent of evergreen
From the passenger seat as you are
driving me home.
Robin and Cyborg sat at the bar watching their drinks. They had come here before to get away, and just talk. It was nearing midnight when Cyborg downed his last glass of beer before setting it back on the bar. It was his seventh one that night.
"You want me to drive?" Robin asked, observing his friend is his drunken state.
"No, man, I'm fine" Cyborg said stubbornly as he put money on the table and walked out of the bar.
"You sure? I mean, you don't look so good and I think it would be better if I drove" The Boy Wonder said, following Cyborg out.
"I said I'm FINE" he said, fumbling to unlock the car, "Besides, it's only a five minute drive" After a few seconds, the car doors swung open, and the boys climbed in.
Cyborg revved up the car and they drove into the night. Their speed was climbing fast. Robin started at the speedometer, which had gone from zero to fifty in no less then ten seconds.
Then looking upwards
I strain my
eyes and try
To tell the difference between shooting stars and
satellites
From the passenger seat as you are driving me home.
The car started to swerve slightly, "Cy, please, slow down" Robin cried, clutching his seat. Cyborg ignored him and continued to floor it.
They were approaching an intersection, and the light blared a bright red. Yet, Cyborg failed to slow down, "Cy, THE LIGHTS RED!" Robin screamed, but it was too late. The car ran through the light, just as another car was coming from the other side, smashing into the passenger side.
"Do they collide?"
I
ask and you smile.
With my feet on the dash
The world doesn't
matter.
The T Car spun out of control and turned onto it's back. Steam was floating from the engine. Cyborg clutched the wheel for dear life, even when it was over, he looked over to the Boy Wonder "Hey Rob you o-" he was cut off by the very sight of his leader.
His head had smashed into the window, is skull was cracked open, blood seeping out. He looked at his chest, which was not moving an inch. He was dead. And it was his fault.
"No…"Cyborg cried, salty tears running down his cheeks. "Dear God NO!" He screamed from the top of his lungs. He had killed one of his best friends. "Why didn't I let him drive?" he thought to him self, tears falling on the leather seat, "How could I could I let this happen?"
Cyborg opened what was left of the glove compartment, pulling out a gun. "I didn't want any of this to happen, I can't live with what I did to you," he said as he pointed the barrel to his head, "I'm sorry Robin"
When you feel
embarrassed then I'll be your pride
When you need directions
then I'll be the guide
For all time.
For all time.
