Inuyasha growled.

"Inuyasha?"

"Kagome!"

Kagome stepped forward with an arrow between her fingers, "InuYASHA?"

"Kagome!"

"Where are you?"

"Where are you?"

Some leaves rustled to the left of Kagome.

An animal called from below Inuyasha.

"Inuyasha?" Kagome said almost timidly, "I'm sorry about this, but... SIT!"

CRASH!

Inuyasha pushed himself off the ground and spat leaves at Kagome, "What were you thinking? What if I'd been on a higher branch?"

Kagome smiled.

Frowning and rubbing a sor spot, Inuyasha turned and marched back into the bushes.

"Wait up, will you, Inuyasha?" Kagome and Shippou followed closely.

-

"Where d'you suppose they've gone?" Miroku asked.

Sango shrugged and shifted her Hiraikotsu.

"I heard them smashing around ahead of us a while ago, but I guess they just got farther and farther away."

"If you hadn't stopped to see if that tree trunk back there was a maiden in distress, we might've caught up," Sango grumbled.

Miroku ignored her.

-

"OW!"

"Shippou!" Kagome scolded.

"Tell your furry little charge to stop chewin' my foot!" Inuyasha complained.

"Where are we?" Kagome ignored the order.

"How should I know?" Inuyasha glared at Shippou and folded his arms. "You're the one who saw the jewel shard."

"Yeah, but that was hours ago."

Inuyasha started into the woods and gestured over his shoulder. "I'll just go look around for a bit, stay put, will ya?"

"Okay," Kagome said tentatively.

-

"Where do you think he went?" Shippou asked.

"I don't know, Shippou."

Kagome rubbed the imprints the grass had left on her leg. They'd been sitting in the spot Inuyasha had left them for what seemed like hours. Miroku and Sango had finally caught up with them, but Sango insisted on separating herself from Miroku by taking a walk. Miroku, of course, insisted on following her.

Kagome's eyes traced the horizon, or what was visible of it through the tall grass and low-hanging tree branches. The sun was starting to disappear behind Miroku's staff as it wandered through the grasses by itself. Miroku himself was completely hidden in the foliage.

Shippou had started to snore around Kagome's ankles before Sango and Miroku returned. Sango threw herself down next to them and glared at Miroku. Oblivious, Miroku smiled at her and bit into a piece of fruit.

"Any sign of Inuyasha?" he asked, chewing happily.

"Not yet." Kagome sighed.

-

Yawn!

Kagome plucked one eye open, then the other. Blinking a few times to reassure herself that it was indeed morning, she sat up and looked around. One, two, three… No sign of Inuyasha.

"Hey, psst." Kagome leaned over and shook Miroku's shoulder, "Miroku!"

"Why, yes, you are very beautiful…" he mumbled sleepily and rolled over.

Kagome groaned and tried Sango.

"Sango, has Inuyasha come back yet? I'm starting to get worried."

Sango sat up and stretched, "I haven't seen him. You think he's okay?"

Just then, a screeching cry pierced the morning mist.

Please R&R! What will happen to Inuyasha?
