It was an exciting time at the Smash Complex, as everyone gathered in the meeting room. "I've just received news we're getting a new fighter!" Isabelle tells everyone as they find their various seats. "And he breaks quite a bit of ground for us too."
"Hero or villain?" Ganondorf asked in a bored voice. "I'm tired of all these heroes getting invites. When's a villain coming along?" He asks, murmurs of approval coming from his fellow villains.
"Actually...he's more of an anti-hero," Isabelle explains as she checks her notes. "With Mature adventures. And he's actually been sealed away by his enemies in the past like you have," she continues which makes Ganondorf sit up.
"A Mature anti-hero?" Palutena asks. "What kind of adventures has HE been up to?"
"The VERY simple answer is he's a demon killer," Isabelle responds, which gets Bayonetta's attention.
"Oooh, I know the type. Dante was never a fan of the fact he didn't get in," Bayonetta responds. "But what makes this guy special?"
"Because like I said, that's the VERY simple answer," Isabelle says. "The reality is more like...possibly the toughest character in his multiverse. Toughest, oldest, strongest...all fear, and/or respect, him. The Doom Slayer." She then turns the projector on, displaying a man encased in green armor, staring hard into the "camera." Shudders went around the room, especially among the children, at hearing his name, and the picture on screen, many eyes drawn to the blade on his left arm, did nothing to help that.
"Huh, also looks like he'd fit in with us spacies," Samus comments as her eyes wander all over the image. "But he's a demon killer?"
Isabelle checks her notes. "His adventure first began on Mars, or to be more precise, Phobos, as a marine stationed there. He killed every demon on the UAC base there. By himself. Then he went to Deimos, which was in his multiverse's version of Hell, and killed everything there. THEN jumped down to the surface of Hell itself and kept. On. Killing." She backs it up with grainy, pixelated footage, taken from his perspective, as he used various guns to kill demons. "Back then? He was only known as Doomguy." Many of the adults covered the eyes of the various children within reach, as they watched many a demon erupt into a fountain of gore thanks to buckshot, bullets, rockets, plasma and chainsaw. Or even his own fists sometimes.
"OK, before you go ANY further, is there ANYTHING about this guy that's kid friendly?" Bowser asks, one hand still over his son's eyes, and in a rare show of peace, the Mario brothers, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, and the Kongs were helping with his other kids. Though Luigi was shaking at the sight of demons. "Because I'm about to vote that they leave." Rosalina seconded as her Luma hid behind her, many others murmuring agreement, as well as gratitutude that he was being a thoughtful parent. Peach didn't even wait for an answer, starting to shepherd the kids towards the back.
"Well, he had a pet rabbit. Daisy," Isabelle responds, which made the brunette princess perk up. "And his whole adventure was because he refused to fire upon innocent civilians, but there's no context for that." She checks her notes again. "And yeah...that's for the best. Have fun kids!" Peach then ushers out all of Bowser's kids, Ness, Lucas, Young Link, the Inklings, as well as the Pokemon trainers, Sora, and Toon Link, just to be safe. There was debate on if Kirby counted, as he was technically a baby, but he was allowed to stay because of what he had done in his own adventures, not to mention his own strength in the Smash Dimension.
"OK, glad that's taken care of," Peach says as she returns to her seat. "This is about to get a LOT worse, isn't it?" She asks.
"Because after he slew the Spider Mastermind, he emerged from Hell to find Hell on Earth," Isabelle continues. "And once again, he killed every demon in his path, all over Earth. And even went back to Hell, to slay the Icon of Sin." More images were displayed, ending with the giant wall that was the Icon of Sin, as Doomguy pumped rockets into his exposed brain.
"That's a bit harsh, isn't it Lady Palutena?" Pit asks.
"Pit, I feel it'll only get worse from here," Palutena responds, remembering something. "You said he HAD a rabbit. Let me guess...demons killed it?" She asks.
Isabelle pulled up a picture of a rabbit's head on a spike, causing many audible gasps around the room.
"I hope he dug his two graves before his crusade of revenge," Pyra comments as she watches the footage.
"Oh, if he did, he had to have dug too MASS graves," Isabelle says. "After the Hell on Earth, he got time to himself. But then had to go back to Phobos and kill all the demons there, as something was resurrecting them. Though he probably wished it was immediate."
"PTSD," Snake says while taking a long puff from his cigarette. "Never underestimate it. I get a feeling Hell PTSD is even worse."
"Oh it was. Don't forget: He was ALONE, for all this. No backup. No help. Every single other marine dead. Just him, and his guns," Isabelle explains.
"LOTS of guns," Joker remarks. "Someone else has deep pockets, doesn't he Link?"
"Yeah, and he'z a brawler too. But can he withstand da fists from da Bronx?" Little Mac asks while punching the air.
"Little Mac, according to what I've learned...he uses guns for FUN," Isabelle says seriously, earning some gasps. "After a certain point in his story that I'll get to...he became strong enough he could punch demons to death, EASILY. In fact..." She then pulls up footage of such a thing. The Doom Slayer running around at high speed, punching demons to death. Or worse, actively pulling them apart in various fashions. Some of the group had to turn away due to sensitive stomachs unable to handle the gore being displayed.
"Is this-a why he's an anti-hero?" Mario asks.
"That, and gunshots HURT. Not only that...but this is how he fights normally," Isabelle then plays footage of him running around at a slower speed, gunning down his enemies. But not to death. The Smash cast watch, some in horror, as once a demon began to flash colors, the Doom Slayer closed in, finishing them off with a brutal melee attack, using a combination of fists, wrist blade, and sometimes a stomp.
"Boys, we could learn from him," Sephiroth chuckles evilly, glancing at his fellow villains. "And I thought killing Aeris was brutal," he continues, twirling Masamune around on his finger, earning a dirty glare from Cloud.
"He has one of those too." Isabelle then pulls up footage of the Slayer dipping a sword hilt into a strange red pool, pulling it out to reveal a sword blade of translucent red energy, runes along its length. This earns some yeses from the sword wielders of the group, and groans about "Not ANOTHER sword fighter!" from the non-sword wielders. .
"Wow. Energy blade, just like me," Shulk comments. "Since he pretty much has his own beam sword."
"It's called the Crucible," Isabelle explains after checking notes. "And it's special. Like...Master Sword special. Only the king of the Argenta can wield it."
"Hold up. He's royalty?" Marth asks. "And Argenta? You never mentioned that part of his story."
"Well, it boils down like this. In his third adventure, after killing the Mother of all Demons, he sealed the Hell portal. From the inside. Trapping himself in Hell. They forced him out for a time, but he found a way back in. THEN found his way to...well it's not clear. Different universe? Different planet in the same universe? Who can say? Argent D'Nur." Now the screen displays a woodcut of a planet with a giant spike through the middle.
"I've seen some strange planets in my day. But that takes the cake," Fox remarks as Falco and Wolf nod. "And I don't think you have either Samus." Samus also nods with wide eyes.
"The World Spear. The most sacred place for all the Argenta," Isabelle tells them. "They were impressed when Doomguy demonstrated his prowess. So they trained him further, Refined him. And he became even better among them, which served well Hell started to invade. But the big change happened during one seige. When he was stolen away by one of the Argenta's allies, a Maykr known as the Seraphim." An image of said Seraphim appears on screen in a red hooded cloak, hovering as he guided the Doomguy towards a strange machine. Bayonetta made a comment about how it looked like something she'd fight. "The Divinity Machine," Isabelle says as they watch him get in.
"And now, they will fear you," the Seraphim said onscreen as the machine closed up, Doomguy screaming as its energies flowed into him.
"And thus, from that day on he was no longer Doomguy. He was the Doom Slayer," Isabelle tells them. "That three lined mark? The Night Sentinels, the special ops soldiers of the Argenta, gave it to him. And it's become his mark ever since. It is what the demons of his Hell fear. As for him? His strength increased to what you saw earlier. So too his speed. He is not slowed down by the weight of his armor. Nor the massive weapons he wields. His endurance is infinite. He needs only to feed on the energy of the demons. He does not need to eat. He does not need to sleep. And between the Divinity Machine, and the fact that for Hell, time works via rules even I can't understand...he does not age. Natural death cannot claim him."
"Wow. Way to make my routine feel inadequate," Wii Fit Trainer comments with a frown. "I do my yoga, my cardio, my stretches, and this guy just kills demons and stays in top shape? With no need for food nor rest? It's not fair."
"He almost sounds like a god," Palutena comments. "Still, impressive for a human."
"Oh he is now. A Primeval, as it's called. And he has MANY kills under his belt. Demons of all shapes and sizes. Even actual gods. His most recent accomplishment? He killed the very creator of his multiverse," Isabelle adds, a few gasps going around the room.
"He killed his god? But that shouldn't happen!" Zelda says while coiling in fear, Link having to comfort her.
"Oh he did. His body count is beyond counting. The demons of his Hell would fear to even speak his name." Isabelle then plays up a series of audio logs, all recorded in a demonic voice. Everyone listened, with some of the more fearful like Luigi, Kirby, and Zelda cower in fear.
"Those were the Slayer's Testaments. Recorded by the demons themselves at one point," Isabelle tells them, and Ganondorf's eyes go wide.
"You'd think they were narrating about me. Or any other villain that got locked away," he comments, many others agreeing with him. "Even his name sounds like a villain's name."
"Oh that's not the end. His private base? The Fortress of Doom. And his music of choice? Heavy metal." Isabelle then plays one of the tracks, BFG Division.
"Woah, this guy's got some tunes, Lucina says as she bobs her head.
"And that's just one track. Here's his theme." They could FEEL the Slayer's anger through his theme, Falco commenting on how badass it was.
"And now he's coming here. And you've shown us his moves," Captain Falcon says with a chuckle. "And it seems like nothing can stop him."
"Indeed. He seems worthy. Possibly TOO worthy. We just have to make sure he doesn't try anything around the kids," Palutena says as Isabelle turns the projector off, and they all file out of the room.
