Author's note: So this is just the first part of my retelling of Sonic. For now at least. I figured it was safe to post the first part but I might change it up once the rest of the story is complete. I hope you enjoy it.
End of Author's note
It is a bright and sunny day on Christmas Island. Friendly faces were all around. One of these faces was by far the most popular and most loved. He was a hyper-blue hedgehog that had the unusual ability to run extremely fast. His name was Sonic. Everyone on the island knew of him and he knew everyone. Every day was so peaceful and that was how the hedgehog liked it. But one day everything changed.
It was just the same sunny warm day and Sonic couldn't wait to go on his daily run around the island, so he got out of bed, threw on his shoes, and headed out of the door. Before he left he looked back at his tiny one-room home then back outside to a beautiful scene of his hometown and said, "can't wait for another great day." his stomach growled. "Guess I should eat first." He then ran off faster than a bullet to the nearest restaurant which happened to also be his favorite.
Sonic appeared in a flash and the friendly chief greeted him, "hey Sonic! Your usual?"
"Nay. Today I would like eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, and some pancakes. Oh, and can I get lunch to go? I plan to enjoy this great day to the fullest."
"Sounds exciting. I will wipe that up for you soon." The chef said starting on his order immediately.
"Thanks," Sonic said.
He stood in place for a moment when the chef called out to him. "Sorry to ask but can you get me some milk?"
"Not a problem." Sonic sped off and in less than a minute he was back. "Here you go." Sonic handed the milk over and the chef thanked him. Sonic was happy to be of service. But then Sonic heard a cry. A little kid dropped her ice cream and was crying. The mother was trying to cheer her up but it was no use so Sonic decided to help. He ran up and instantly started making funny faces at the kid. At first, they were confused but soon they were laughing. Once that was done Sonic held up a finger to ask them to wait and he zoomed off. Then within a few seconds, he was back with a new ice cream much to the kid's delight. The mother thanked him to which Sonic said it was nothing. A couple of ladies who had been watching him began to speak to each other.
"My that Sonic sure is a nice boy." Lady one said.
"Very much so." Lady two said with a smile. "But…" She lost her smile and whispered, "...do you know how he is doing since his parents passed?"
Lady one whispered back, "He took it hard at first but I think he is doing fine now."
"I hope so." lady one said, still sounding worried after all it had only been a year or so.
Just then the chef called out, "Sonic! Your order is ready."
"Great," Sonic said finding the first empty set to sit and enjoy his meal. The chef brought it out and Sonic began scarfing it down. He actually ate it so fast that he began to choke. He grabbed a pitcher of water and began chugging it.
The chef laughed and said, "Slow down Sonic you still have the whole day to enjoy this weather. There is no rush."
"Maybe so but I want to hurry and get the day moving," Sonic said, beginning to eat again.
"Well wait just a bit longer and I will have a full day's worth of food for you."
"Thanks a bunch." With that Sonic actually did slow down a bit to give the chef time to finish the food.
After about 15 minutes Sonic had long since finished eating but was now patiently waiting for the chef to finish and before he knew it the chef came out with a huge picnic basket filled with food and drinks.
"I think I overdid it." the chef chuckled nervously.
"Not at all. This is perfect thanks." Sonic said picking the basket up with little problem. "Well, I better be off. I will return the basket later."
"Have fun." the chef said, seeing him off with a smile.
At this point, Sonic would normally be so excited to go out that he would go as fast as he can to get to his favorite locations but this time he decided to take his time and just greet everyone he saw. Many of these people greeted him back and even asked where he was heading too. Sonic just said he was going wherever and no one was really surprised. They all just hoped he had fun and to be careful to which Sonic agreed.
Once he was out of his town he sped off to his first favorite spot. It was a clearing in the nearby forest that was just surrounded by flowers and he would often see little creatures around. It was the most peaceful spot for him. Someplace he could quietly take a nap. Despite it still being morning he immediately wanted a quick snooze so he laid down, got cozy, and fell asleep.
After a couple of hours, he was well-rested again and went to many of his other favorite spots. A cave that served as a maze. He would often be able to get out in about 5 minutes but it was still fun to try and beat his old score. The next was the beach that allowed him to watch the clear waters. He never got close though since he could not swim and frankly hated to get wet. Finally, he just did a quick run around looking at the scenery and enjoying the great weather.
After a full day of fun Sonic still had one spot left. It was his secret paradise. At the top of a mountain on a ledge covered in greenery, he was able to get a perfect view of the sunset. It also faced his town and being able to see everything in natural beauty was always the best way to end the day.
Sonic couldn't wait to get there and ran at his max speed. In no time at all, he was finally at the ledge and turned to face the wonders of nature. He was at his happiest at this point. But then he got sad for a moment.
"Another great day. Mom, dad. I wish you could see it." he shed a tear and turned to face the wall. On it was his mom's and dad's names. They engraved their initials there when they agreed to marry. This was their spot and a special place they brought him constantly. He smiled and said, "but no worries. Everyone in town has been so nice and I am living my life to the fullest." He sounded confident but he still felt a bit lonely since even with a lot of friends he still had no one to come home to or a person he could truly say was family.
Suddenly he heard a loud boom and turned. To his horror, there was a giant cloud of smoke coming from his village. He also heard many screams and cries. He wasted no time. He left everything on the ledge and ran to the village.
