Chapter 2;
Outskirts of National City:
In a huge bunker outside the city, several men and women in black uniforms were working hard as a tall dark man walked in. It was Hank Henshaw, the Director of the Department of Extra-normal Operations, or the DEO.
"Sir! An energy spike has been detected near the base!" One of the men at the computers shouted. Director Henshaw ran over to look at the computer to see what the energy spike was: the cameras outside were showing a blue Police Box a few meters away.
"STAND DOWN, EVERYONE!" Hank shouted which concerned everyone. "It's him. If U.N.I.T finds out we pointed guns at him, we're in trouble!" Hank warned them which made everyone realise who their Director was talking about. "I'll go alone; he only talks to leaders." Hank told them then he headed towards the exit to talk to their guest.
Outside of the base, Hank Henshaw walked towards the Police Box and knocked three times. The left door slowly opened to reveal a man in a plain blue suit with a red t-shirt and red Converse trainers.
"Hello again, Doctor." Hank smiled and the man smiled as he stepped to his left, allowing Hank to enter the Police Box.
"It's been a while, Hank. Or should I call you, J'onn." The Doctor smiled as Hank looked at the smartly dressed man. "How has things been for you on Earth?" The Doctor asked as he closed the door and walked up the path.
"Good. The DEO is going strong and we're still protecting the city." J'onn told him and the Doctor nodded as he walked over to the console. "What brings you to National City?" J'onn asked as he was curious to know why The Doctor was in National City.
"I was just passing by; seeing how an old friend was doing." The Doctor explained as he turned the monitor on his TARDIS console to check some scans. "I'm guessing that you know of the other Kryptonian, considering you have her sister working for you." The Doctor looked up and J'onn could tell he wasn't happy.
"I didn't know that Alex was her adopted sister until later on in her time here," J'onn explained but the Time Lord still looked at J'onn as if he still didn't believe him. "I'm not sure that she should do anything like her cousin. The DEO's job is to stop alien threats from within the shadows, without making the public aware they exist." The Doctor sighed as he fell backwards into his chair, he rubbed his face then looked at J'onn.
"But they do exist! They've seen them!" The Doctor shouted which surprised J'onn. "There have been Daleks in Manhattan during 1930, flying death spheres from the sky, a British Prime Minister who turned out to be a killer Time Lord. Oh, and let's not forget the Man of Steel who flies around the world and saves people!" The Doctor reminded J'onn who was now holding one of the railings and squeezed them tight.
"My opinion of her stays the same. And if we find out that she's in action, we'll stop her and persuade her to stop." J'onn told the Time Lord which made The Doctor look at him with anger.
"I'll be careful what you do next, Hank!" The Doctor bellowed as he ran over to J'onn and pointed his finger into his chest. "I could easily send everything about you to U.N.I.T, who will then tell every department about you; even the DEO!" The Doctor was outraged by J'onn and what he was doing. "And here I thought you were a hero. Your Human form is making you act a Human, instead of you acting like someone who would understand being the last of the race. You're the last Martian, I'm the last of the Time Lords. And here, on Earth, are the last two Kryptonians! Treat her how you would want to be treated." The Doctor ordered him as he escorted J'onn to the TARDIS doors. "And if I find out that you've captured her for any reason, I will stop you." The Doctor warned him and before J'onn could say anything, The Doctor threw him out of the TARDIS then closed and locked the doors
"DOCTOR!" J'onn shouted but then seconds later, the TARDIS started to fade away as the engines roared. J'onn took a deep breath then exhaled as he walked back to the DEO.
Earth, late October 2015;
It was a dark starry night in National City as a new hero was flying around the city. She was getting used to flying again and was enjoying the wind flowing through her until she felt pain in her chest. The hero looked down to see two needles with something green inside them, but then she started to fall and crash landed in an alley.
"Target has been neutralised!" Someone shouted as the blonde woman slowly turned her head to see several armed people running towards her. The armed people were a few meters away until they heard a strange sound then later, a blue Police Box slowly appeared and covered the mysterious blonde hero. "Director! The target has been covered… by a blue Police Box." The leader shouted and just as he finished speaking, the Police Box started to roar again as the lantern on the roof started to flicker and the box faded away. "It's gone! Director, the Box and the target are gone!" The leader called via his earpiece.
"Return back to base, Commander!" The voice of Hank Henshaw spoke through the earpiece, the soldiers then nodded and ran towards a parked SUV.
Somewhere:
After a few long minutes, the blonde woman's eyes slowly opened and she was looking up at a dark yellow roof with Hexagonal shapes. She looked at her chest to see that the two needles were gone and she had a brown trench coat covering her.
"You're awake?" The new hero looked to her right to see a familiar figure. "Hello again." The man smiled as walked over to her and held out his hand.
"I'm… I don't know who I am. I don't exactly have a name like Superman." She realised then she looked back at the mystery man. "Do you have a name or do I have to call you Mister Mystery?" The blonde hero asked and the mystery man smiled.
"The Doctor, just The Doctor." He introduced himself then The Doctor looked at the hero. "And I know who you are, Kara Danvers. Or Kara Zor-El." The Doctor spoke which made the blonde hero's eyes widen. "Did you really think a pair of glasses would work on me? And plus, the voice gave you away." The Doctor explained as he walked over to her. "I did research into how the Earth's Sun reacts with Kryptonians, and my ship's scanners told me where you were from." The Doctor told her then Kara walked towards him.
"You know where I'm from. So I think it's your turn to tell me where you're from." Kara told him and The Doctor nodded.
"I'm a Time Lord from Gallifrey. I'm the last of the Time Lords." The Doctor told Kara who looked like she was about to cry. "My race were in a war, a Time War, against another race of aliens called the Daleks. It lasted for over 400 years, it ended on my homeworld; killing everyone. Even my friends and family; I'm the only one alive." Kara could see that the Time Lord was about to cry while talking about his past.
"Have you had any friends on board with you?" Kara asked as she was curious. The Doctor looked up at Kara then took a few steps towards her.
"Are we talking in total? Or just with this face?" The Doctor asked which confused Kara. "Time Lords have a unique difference from other species, except from just having two hearts. We also have the ability to regenerate; basically means that every part of us, or me, changes. Eye colour, accent, hair, even gender." The Doctor explained which surprised Kara.
"So you're telling me that if you get seriously injured or you're close to death, you can change your appearance?" Kara asked and The Doctor nodded with a smile. "And I thought Kryptonians had unique abilities." Kara chuckled as the pair leant against the console. "Okay. Since you had this face, how many people have you travelled with?" Kara asked again as she was still curious.
"A few people. The first person was also the first person who saw this face; she was called Rose. Rose Tyler. We travelled to many places; New New York on New Earth in the year 5 Billion and 23, Scotland in 1879 and met Queen Victoria, we saw the 2012 Olympics. We even met all sorts of aliens; Daleks, Oods, Cybermen, Autons, Clockwork soldiers, Krillitanes and many more." The Doctor told Kara and she was interested in knowing more. "After Rose… left, others later joined me such as Martha, Donna, Jack, Mickey. But after a while, they left to live their lives." The Doctor then stood up and looked at Kara. "I think it's time I took you home. And don't worry about the time, the TARDIS is more than just a spaceship; it's also a time machine." The Doctor smiled then pulled down a lever, causing the TARDIS to roar back into life while Kara watched the Time Lord pilot the ship alone; she was impressed with how good he was piloting the ship.
National City, Present Day:
In Kara's loft, the sound of an ancient engine echoed as a blue Police Box slowly materialised. Slowly, the left door opened and out stepped Kara, she looked around and was amazed how she was in her loft. Kara was looking out her window by the couch when The Doctor walked out but without his trench coat.
"Here we are. Your loft, the day after you were shot at." The Doctor told her which amazed Kara. "What's on your mind, Kara?" The Doctor asked as he walked over to the hero. Kara turned around and sat on her couch.
"I want to know who those soldiers belonged to and why they wanted me." Kara told him as The Doctor sat next to her then placed his right hand on Kara's left hand.
"If you like, I can look into it. I know some friends that I travelled with who can help me find out who and why." The Doctor offered as he wanted to help. Kara looked at The Doctor and could see that he wanted to help.
"I would like that, Doctor. Thank you." Kara thanked him and without thinking, she gave The Doctor a kiss on the cheek.
"Well…" The Doctor smiled as he didn't know what to say. "I better be off before someone comes in and sees this in here." The Doctor stood up and walked over to the TARDIS. "Kara," The Doctor turned around and walked back over to Kara. "Take this." The Doctor reached into his jacket pocket pocket and took out a gold bracelet with a single blue gem. "It's something I made when I was bored; it's a communicator that can contact only me through the TARDIS. You can contact me wherever or whenever I am." The Doctor explained and Kara smiled as she accepted it and placed it around her left wrist.
"Thank you, Doctor." Kara smiled as she looked up to see The Doctor standing inside the TARDIS. "Will I see you again though?" Kara asked and the Time Lord nodded.
"I will be back, I promise." The Doctor promised then he waved as he closed the TARDIS door and the box slowly faded away.
DEO:
In the training room, Hank was training with one of his agents; a tall woman with short brunette hair. They were about to finish when a gust of wind hit them, the pair stepped back as a blue Police Box slowly appeared in front of them.
"A Police Box? How did it get in here?" The brunette woman asked but before Hank could say anything, the doors opened and Hank saw who it was.
"Hello again, Director Hank Henshaw." The man spoke: it was The Doctor. "Sorry I couldn't come by and chat earlier, I was busy saving someone. A Kryptonian with long blonde hair, the cousin of Superman." The Doctor told Hank then his eyes darted at the brunette woman. "Hello again, Alex." The Doctor spoke which made Alex surprised. "You work for the same people who tried to bring in your sister, how could you do that to your own family?" The Doctor shouted at her which made Alex feel a little afraid.
"What makes you think we had anything to do with this attack you said happened?" Hank asked but he was then surprised when a soldier in black walked out, they removed their helmet to reveal a man with short black who looked tired.
"It's a good thing I was here investigating, wasn't it, Doctor?" The man asked and The Doctor nodded. "Captain Jack Harkness. I work and lead a group of people willing to protect Earth. You might've heard of Torchwood?" Jack asked which made both Alex's and Hank's eyes widen.
"The good Captain was doing some undercover work here to see if Torchwood should work with the DEO," The Doctor started as Jack removed the uniform; revealing him wearing black trousers, black boots and a white t-shirt. "I then asked him to do some research and he told me that you were behind what happened that night." The Doctor explained and Jack could see the anger in his eyes and voice. "How could you? All she wants to do is protect the people of this planet, her home! And what do you try and do; Capture her? Imprison her? Experiment on her?" The Doctor screamed as he walked towards Hank until he pointed a finger at Alex. "And you, Alex? You would really choose your work over your sister? Did you not stop and think how things would go if she found out about you?" The Doctor asked as he walked towards Alex.
"We wanted to assess her; see if she could pose a threat and if she can be trusted." Hank explained as The Doctor turned and looked at Jack.
"Director Henshaw," Jack spoke up as he walked over to Hank. "Consider my decision for us to join forces, terminated." Jack told Hank while The Doctor took Alex to the side to talk.
"Alex, if you truly care about your sister, I would think about merging your lives together; as sisters and a duo." The Doctor suggested which made Alex think. "Instead of thinking about it here, let me show you what Kara sees." The Doctor suggested and Alex nodded. "Jack, let's go!" The Doctor called over and Jack nodded. The trio walked into the Police Box which made Hank confused. Before Hank could say anything, the TARDIS engines roared to life as it faded away.
Space:
After dropping Jack back at the Torchwood base in Cardiff, The Doctor had positioned the TARDIS to float above the Earth. He opened the doors and revealed the mast universe to Alex, she walked over and looked at the planets, stars and meteors.
"Alex, sit down with me." The Doctor offered as he sat on edge of the TARDIS, his legs hanging out in the openness of space. "The TARDIS is protecting us, trust me." The Doctor told her then Alex sat down next to him.
"I didn't want Director Henshaw to do that; go after Kara." Alex confessed and The Doctor nodded. "Kara and I weren't always close after she joined the family but after a few months, we got close, and we acted like actual sisters. I hate hiding this from her and I got a feeling that if she finds out before I tell her, I might lose the best thing that happened in my life." Alex spoke as she looked at the vastness of space while The Doctor looked at Alex.
"Come on, we've got something to do." The Doctor told Alex as he stood up and held out his hand. Alex looked up in confusion as she took The Doctor's hand and he helped her up. "Close the doors!" The Doctor told her as he ran over to the console and started pressing buttons and flipping switches on various panels.
"What are you doing now?" Alex asked as she leant against one of the odd shaped pillars, watching the Doctor looking at the small monitor.
"What do you think?" The Doctor asked as he pulled down a lever, causing the TARDIS engines to power up. "I'm taking you home but not quite home; we're going… to Kara's place." The Doctor explained which shocked Alex. "You want to tell her before she finds out another way, correct?" The Doctor asked and Alex nodded slowly. "Well then, let me give you that chance. And if you like, I can stay and help clear things up." Alex nodded with a faint smile as she was worried about how things could turn out.
This is the end of chapter 2 and things are slowly developing. Will things between Kara and Alex go well or will things turn out bad? Can The Doctor help them?
See you all next time.
