Chapter 3:
Earth, National City:
In Kara's loft, she was sitting on the couch in her normal clothes; she was watching a musical whilst drinking water. The room was filled with music until Kara heard a familiar sound, she looked to her right to see the TARDIS materialising. Moments later, the left door opened and The Doctor poked his head out.
"Hey Kara, are you busy at the moment?" The Doctor asked curiously. Kara smiled and shook her head as she stood up.
"Not really. Just watching musicals, thinking about giving up being a hero. I'm not like my cousin." Kara told the Time Lord but The Doctor shook his head.
"Before you make any tough decisions, there's someone in here who would like to talk with you." The Doctor suggested which got Kara's curiosity. The Doctor started walking up to the console as Kara walked in then closed the door. As Kara walked towards the console, she saw Alex sitting in the chair on the other side of the console.
"What's my sister doing here?" Kara asked as she looked at The Doctor, who just took out his Sonic Screwdriver and pointed it at the TARDIS doors; followed by several locks activating.
"I want you two to talk and until you do, we'll stay in the TARDIS." The Doctor told the sisters as his left hand wrapped around the main lever. "I no longer have a family so I can't argue or chat with. You two are lucky; talk and see if you can make your bond even stronger." The Doctor suggested as he walked over to a corner of the TARDIS and laid down with his hands behind his head. "Take all the time you need. I've been around for over 900 years, I can wait a bit more." The Doctor told them as he closed his eyes.
Meanwhile, Kara had turned around to notice that Alex was wearing some kind of military clothing. Alex then looked at what she was wearing and realised that she had to be honest about everything.
"Kara, can we sit down and talk?" Alex asked and Kara nodded as they sat on the floor, their heads resting on the edge of the console. "You know that there are aliens in the world?" Alex asked her sister and Kara slowly nodded. "Well, I was employed at an agency where we protect people from evil aliens. The same people I work with were tasked to capture and assess you: to see if you were a possible ally or threat." Alex explained which shocked Kara as she stood up and walked away from her sister.
"You're telling me that the people who work with were tasked to capture me?" Kara asked as she turned and looked at Alex with her arms crossed. Alex slowly nodded as she now felt terrible.
"I didn't want that to happen to you, Kara!" Alex shouted as she stood up and walked towards her sister but Kara stepped away. "I wanted us to work together; as a team. Like how we used to." Alex then fell on to the floor and looked like she was about to cry. Kara shook her head then sat next to her sister and hugged her.
"I forgive you, Alex. I always will." Kara promised as Alex hugged her sister. "Doctor?" Kara called over as The Doctor sat up then started to walk over to them. "Can we go to where Alex works and talk to them? Try to be reasonable about having me work with them?" The Kryptonian suggested and The Doctor smiled.
"Let's go then!" The Doctor shouted with a cheer as he ran over to the console and pulled down the lever which caused the TARDIS engines to roar to life. "Forgot to tell you; I never even locked the doors. I just pressed a button which made a sound of the doors locking." The Doctor admitted which surprised the sisters.
"Thank you, Doctor." Kara thanked and Alex nodded as she was also thankful. "What is this agency called exactly, Alex?" Kara asked but before Alex could answer, The Doctor jumped in as he was pressing buttons and pushing up levers.
"The Department of Extra-normal Operations. Or the DEO, for short." The Doctor answered which confused Kara. "There are a few other agencies or groups of people who protect the world from unfriendly aliens, such as U.N.I.T and Torchwood. Your sister met a friend of mine from Torchwood; Captain Jack Harkness." The Doctor told Kara which surprised her then she looked at Alex.
DEO:
In his office, Hank Henshaw was just finishing up some paperwork when he heard a familiar sound. He got up from behind his desk and ran into the corridor, only to see a blue Police Box at the end of the corridor and The Doctor standing outside it, he had his arms crossed and he looked serious.
"If you're here and looking serious means one thing, there's trouble." Hank spoke as he walked towards him. The Doctor didn't respond but instead, he stepped to the right as the door opened and outwalked both Alex and Kara.
"I think you got some explaining to do, Director." The Doctor told Hank as the Danvers folded their arms. "They want to work together with no conditions attached. That means no tests on Kara unless it's done by Alex." The Doctor explained and the two sisters agreed. "And if you don't agree, I'll call some old friends who could easily take your place as Director while you become extra help." Hank could see in the eyes of the Time Lord that he was serious so he held his hand out.
"You have a deal." Hank agreed then he shook Alex's and Kara's hands. The two sisters then turned and looked at The Doctor, who was now smiling.
"Right then, I'll be off." The Doctor told them which surprised both Kara and Alex. "Do you two want a lift back to your homes?" The Doctor then asked and the sisters nodded.
"Can we get a lift to my loft?" Kara asked and The Doctor nodded. "I'll be here tomorrow if you need help with any troublesome aliens." Kara told the Director as Alex and The Doctor walked into the TARDIS. Hank nodded as Kara walked into the Police Box and as the door closed, the TARDIS roared and started humming as it slowly faded away.
Kara's loft:
The TARDIS materialised in the loft then the left door opened as Kara and Alex walked out, shortly followed by The Doctor who was smiling. Kara walked into the bedroom area to change while Alex sat on the couch.
"Thank you again, Doctor." Alex thanked him with a huge smile. The Doctor nodded as he walked over and sat in the armchair opposite Alex. "And I mean with everything: helping Kara, getting us to be honest with each other, getting Henshaw to agree for Kara to work with us." The old Time Lord could see how happy Alex was now that everything was easy.
"It was my honor, Alex." The Doctor spoke as Kara walked wearing blue jeans, white trainers and a white t-shirt. The Doctor could also see that Kara was wearing her glass as he smiled at her. "I will be around if you need me. If there's trouble, you know what to do, Kara." The Doctor told the Kryptonian and Kara nodded with a smile. "Well then, I'll be off." The Doctor smiled as he stood up and the two sisters stood up then they hugged.
"See you around, Doctor." Alex smiled as she first hugged the Time Lord and The Doctor nodded.
"Don't be a stranger, Doc." Kara smiled as she then hugged him, The Doctor could sense a strong connection with her and he nodded. The two sisters then watched as The Doctor walked into the TARDIS and the door closed. After a few moments, the ship's engines started to hum and roar as it faded away, leaving the Danvers sisters to smile and wave.
A few months later:
Time had flown by and trouble had struck National City: some kind of alien signal had affected everyone in the city except for one person; Supergirl. She was at Worldwide Media to see if her friend, Winn Schott, could help her locate the source but he was under the signal's control; rapidly typing on the computer along with all the other employees.
"Ker-rah, call Harrison Ford and tell him that I'm flattered but once and for all, I do not date older men. Especially when they're married." Kara looked behind her to see Cat Grant walk out of the private elevator, which shocked her as Cat was acting normal. Cat Grant then turned around to see Supergirl in her building. "Oh. Supergirl. Well, what a pleasant surprise." Cat removed her sunglasses and took a few steps forward. "What? Do we have a 9 am?" Cat asked then started to check her phone.
"You're not a mindless drone?" Supergirl asked as she started to walk towards Cat, who then looked up at the Super.
"No. No, I learned that lesson when Demi Moore and I wore the same dress to the premiere of Ghosts. Never again." Cat answered then she looked back down at her phone as Supergirl walked over and stood next to her.
"Ms. Grant, listen to me; everyone in the city is affected by this alien signal. They're acting like automatons, haven't you noticed?" Supergirl asked, then Cat looked up and noticed something odd.
"Well, yes, They are a bit more quiet than usual." Cat noticed as she stopped typing on her phone. "Maybe my reign of terror finally reached its peak effectiveness." Cat added as a bling came from Supergirl, who was holding a phone. "You do have a cell phone, can I get the number, please?" Cat asked as Supergirl unlocked her phone.
"Superman." Supergirl smiled with relief. Cat's face shot up as she heard his name.
"Oh, can I get his number as well?" Cat asked as Supergirl started walking towards the balcony.
"He's coming to help," Supergirl spoke as she ran towards the balcony with Cat following close behind. When they arrived on the balcony, Cat looked down to see hundreds of people walking down streets.
"Oh my god. What's happening to everyone?" Cat asked as she was confused about what was happening. Cat then looked up to see Supergirl pointed at the flying figure of Superman but then they watched as he descended down and started walking with the people. "If this alien signal can affect Superman, is anyone safe?" Cat asked as she looked at Supergirl, who looked like she didn't know what to do.
"There might be one person that can help. And I'm not talking about Max Lord; someone who saved me from a frozen hell." Supergirl spoke as she looked at the gold bracelet on her wrist. "If you can hear me, something is happening to the people of Earth. Please help!" Kara whispered as she pressed the blue gem, it started to flash a white light. Cat was confused about what Supergirl had done until a few minutes later she heard a loud humming and roaring, the pair ran back into the main office to see a blue Police Box slowly materialise.
"What is that?" Cat asked as the police box door opened and out stepped someone that made Supergirl's face glow as she smiled.
"Hello Supergirl. Nice to see you again." The Doctor smiled as he walked out of TARDIS whilst putting on his brown trench coat. "What can I do to help?" He asked then Supergirl grabbed his hand and pulled him outside onto the balcony.
"That." She said pointing down towards the street. "Myriad is active. The signal is affecting everyone here, even Kal." Supergirl explained which both shocked and surprised The Doctor. "How is it not affecting you though?" She asked and The Doctor smiled.
"I was just on a planet where they have a loud sound defence weapon, I used these to stop getting a painful headache," The Doctor then pointed at two small white devices in his ears. "Good old Ion Blockers." The Doctor explained as he took out his Sonic Screwdriver and used it to scan Cat. "But how is Ms. Grant not affected by it?" The Doctor asked as he was curious. "Amazing. She has Ion Blockers too but are disguised as diamonds in her earrings. Brilliant." The Doctor was impressed but then looked serious due to the situation.
"How did they broadcast this Myriad over such a widespread area?" Cat asked and Supergirl wanted to know the same thing. The Doctor ran over to an empty computer and used his Sonic Screwdriver to connect to the TARDIS' computer.
"Found it!" The Doctor shouted, then Supergirl and Cat ran over to the Time Lord, who had taken off his trench coat and threw it on to a table as he put on his glasses. "Remember when you called me for some advice about the Kryptonians who attacked during Christmas?" The Doctor asked Supergirl and she nodded. "It seems that their reason was to gain access to Maxwell Lord's LT Interface system: they're using his satellites to send neural signals directly into the minds of everyone in National City." The Doctor explained but Supergirl was still confused.
"What about Superman?" Supergirl asked. "He was offworld when this started. How did Myriad affect him?" She asked as The Doctor took off his glasses.
"He was raised here. Superman's mind became more human due to his long period here, unlike you; who spent a long time in a frozen place in space." The Doctor explained which helped Supergirl understand. The Doctor was still typing away as he tried something but then smacked the table. "I can't take out the satellites; there's some kind of ultra defensive force fields around them. So strong that I can't take them out." The Doctor told them as he stood up and started around the room whilst rubbing his head.
"Now we know what caused this, how do we stop it?" Cat asked while The Doctor kept thinking for ideas until he thought of something.
"OH YES! I'M REALLY GOOD!" The Doctor exclaimed as he removed his glasses again. "Myriad is a signal of control and Non started it out of fear for the planet's destruction! What if, just what if, we counter it with a speech about hope?" The Doctor suggested and while Cat didn't understand, Kara did.
"If we need to make a speech, I know a good place to do it." Cat told them and Supergirl picked up Ms. Grant and they flew away while The Doctor ran into the TARDIS and as the engines activated, it faded away as a gust of wind knocked everyone out of their chairs.
That night:
In the old KXCU TV14 building, Supergirl and Cat were trying to get the cameras to work but there was no power. Moments later, the TARDIS materialised and out ran The Doctor.
"Let me provide the power! Just focus on thinking of words that can cut through Myriad's control!" The Doctor shouted as he pulled several cables into the TARDIS and connected them to the console. Supergirl was trying to think of what words could break Myriad's control but she had nothing. "If we can't stop the Myriad signal, then we'll use it! Use Non's own signal against him to shine hope into this dark hour. And thanks to you, Ms. Grant, this station still uses broadcast technology instead of digital! We'll transmit a signal by calibrating to Myriad's frequency, without leaving a trace!" The Doctor exclaimed as he ran over next to Cat Grant, who was powering up the main control panel. Supergirl ran out of the TARDIS with extra power cables and connected to the panels.
"Indigo's got nothing on you, Doctor!" Supergirl shouted and it made the Time Lord smile as he used his Sonic Screwdriver to secure the power cables to the panels. It was quiet until they all heard a loud crash outside, they all looked at the front door as The Doctor removed his glasses. "Stay here, I'll check it out. Doctor, keep Ms. Grant safe." Supergirl told him and The Doctor nodded.
Outside in the alley, Supergirl was met with the sight of someone she cared for; her sister, Alex. Kara was confused as to why Alex was able to walk around freely and why she was wearing Kryptonite armour.
"I warned you what would happen if you worked against me." Alex spoke which made Kara's eyes widen; Non had control over her. "I found your ultimate opponent. One that knows your every weakness." Kara's eyes filled with tears then she started to cry.
"No! I'm not doing this." Kara told Alex as she shook her head. "I'm going to fight my sister." Kara then looked at the sky with her arms out to the side. "DID YOU HEAR THAT, NON? IF YOU WANT TO FIGHT ME, COME OUT HERE AND DO IT YOURSELF! I'M NOT GOING TO HURT HER!" Supergirl then looked down to see Alex withdrawing her sword.
"You have no choice! Kill Alex Danvers or let her kill you. Either way, you lose." Alex spoke as Non was pulling the strings. Alex looked at the glowing Kryptonite sword then looked at Supergirl. "Recognise this? It's the same sword that your sister used to kill Astra. It's almost justice." Alex then started running towards Supergirl and while Alex was trying to strike her, Kara was doing her best to dodge the attacks and save her sister.
Meanwhile, The Doctor and Cat were almost finished getting everything ready. The Doctor ran into the TARDIS to see how the power was doing when he saw something on the monitor; Kara and Alex fighting.
"What?" The Doctor was confused so he ran a scan on Alex to see what was going on. "No Ion Blockers. Non is probably controlling Alex to make Kara choose to either save Alex or to let Alex kill her." The Doctor suggested as he knelt down and pulled up one to the TARDIS' floor panels. "I might be able to make something that could cut Myriad's connection to Alex. Just hold on, Kara." The Doctor whispered as he started working on something that could help.
Can Alex be saved? What is The Doctor building? And can Myriad be stopped?
Many more surprises are coming, including the development between The Doctor's and Kara's relationship.
See you next time!
