I dont want no God. I dont need no God. God a white man and I a black woman. Shug say God aint white, it just white people create him that way. She say I need to find him for myself, but God aint never given me anything to find. I been good to him my whole life but seems to me God just dont smile on black womens
God all around us, say Shug, he in the trees, in the sky, and in all the purple flowers. But color purple just remind me of the color of Mr beatings. If God think that right and pretty then I sure aint got no place for him no more. It Shug that try to look after me, try to stop Mr hurting me, and I know she care for me like no one else ever has done.
Way I see it, Shug and Nettie the only one I need now. So I be writing to Nettie.
