Here's Chapter 2 .
"Castle just let it go, okay. Let it go."
She'd woken up and he just wanted to know what was going on, but she wouldn't let him in, she was shutting down and he just couldn't let her, not this time.
"No! No, Kate. I won't let it go. I can't! I can't just go home not knowing what the hell is wrong with you. You haven't been yourself for the past month and it got worse this past week. And what happened today... I am scared out of my mind. Please Kate. I respect you and your privacy and I promise you I won't tell anyone else if you don't want me to but I am so worried and I..."
"I'm pregnant! Okay? I'm pregnant and I broke up with Josh and he wants to have nothing to do with the baby! He just signed away his parental rights and... And I don't want him in our lives, I don't. It was over between us anyway when I found out about the baby. But... How do I tell my child that their father didn't even want to have anything to do with them?" She was now full on crying.
Castle was shocked, hearing all that, the pregnancy, the break up, Josh not wanting to have anything to do with the baby... But then he finally found himself and sat next to her on the bed, holding her hand, strongly, so she would look at him, but she didn't.
"Hey... Hey, Kate... Look at me. Please? It's okay, it's going to be okay." He said as he gently stroked her hair and tucked some of it behind her ear. He then proceeded to bring his hand to her chin, tilting her head so she was facing him.
She was crying and it was breaking his heart. "Ssh ssh shh, it's okay, it will all be okay Kate" he kept saying as he pulled her in for a hug, all the while stroking her hair.
After a while her crying stopped and her breathing evened out so he pulled back a bit, just to see her face. Her eyes were puffy but she wasn't crying anymore. She just looked sad and a bit tired.
When she looked at him, he gave her a soft smile and said "You are one of the strongest women I know and this baby is so lucky to have you as a mother, Kate. You have no idea how lucky. And I'm here, I'm here for anything you need, I will always be here. You are never alone and neither is this baby. I promise you. Everything can be figured out."
She was looking at him with such child-like eyes, wide and questioning. He wanted to say so much more, but it wasn't the right time, so he kept his mouth shut. Instead he shifted on the bed so he was sitting right next to her and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her to him so her face rested on his shoulder.
They stayed like that for a long time. And Kate felt at peace for the first time in the past month.
