A case of the Millers.
Jugram's day started off normally as any other day.
He enjoyed the way the early sun's warmth crept on him during his walk around the Temple. It had been close to a month since the fall of Amon, and the city had begun its rebuild process. The Avatar, Korra, and her friends had gone off on their own ways. Due to their heroic ventures, the amount of people wanting to see the Island skyrocketed. And so Tenzin's home was now a tourist attraction, with many people being led by acolytes through it. On many occasions, Jugram had to escape the clutches of people wishing to speak with him and getting in his way to explore the library. So today was supposed to be a day where he cold go the Temple's library and-
"Oh! There you are Jugo. I have a favor to ask." The temple's mistress, and apparently Air bender maker, Pema called out to him. Stopping in his tracks, Jugram turned to the woman, only to have a bundle placed in his arms. He felt dread wash over him at the way the child was thrusted to him. "What am-"
"Can you watch Rohan for a bit? I need to run down to the city for something."
"I don't-"
"Thank you, Jugo!" He looked back at the woman and she was already descending the large case of stairs. He turned his attention toward the bubbling child, "Seems you were weighing her down." He sighed and held the child as he walked out from the corridor and into the open area. The library would have to wait.
Having trifled with both fortune and misfortune, one would think Jugram would be privy to which would come to him. But as fate does, it crept up on him, and he wasn't sure if it was good or bad.
"Hey, Jugo. What are you doing with Rohan?" He had no idea where Korra came from, but she was by his right side the moment he stepped into the courtyard. "Pema entrusted him to me for a short while."
"Ah, cool." She wouldn't meet his eyes. Her body language alluded that she was nervous, but what for? She fidgeted in place and looked around as if they were being spied on.
"Is that all?"
"What?"
"You came up to me and asked me a question, then you went silent."
"No I uh-"
See, this is where Jugram learned that when dealing with Korra and her random urges to just be near him, it is best done behind closed doors. Or at least where no one can see them, especially with the Avatar's failure to understand personal space. Especially his.But you'd probably ask, 'who would Jugram worry over seeing them?'
"Look! It's Avatar Korra and Jugram!"
A group of tourists and journalists, that's who.
"Is that a baby?"
"Is it theirs?"
The sweet taste of death would be quenching, he thought.
"It is theirs!"
He never really said who had to taste it.
As the flashes went off, he questioned if they at all had any notion of female anatomy or mathematical sense. His usual dead stare fell even deeper as he turned to see if Korra would resolve this issue, but of course not. As the Avatar stood there with wide eyes and a blush. After the hundredth flash he decided he'd had enough, and handed the child to Korra and walked away.
After hearing her quietly thank Rohan and wave as more flashes went off, Jugram decided it would be best to disappear for a while.
AN:
So here's the first chapter of the short stories I promised like ten days ago. I started this because the current chapter, chapter 5, is by far the longest chapter I have written. With revising and rewriting it gonna take a while.
That said these stories are just gonna be my outlet of creativity. I find that starting a story like Element of Fortune is really, really, hard especially when starting from the beginning of the legend of Korra. So, in order to stop myself from ruining the pacing of the story, I'll write whatever comes to mind and post it here. That way I don't ruin the main story and I can flush these ideas out.
Chapter 5 of Element of Fortune should be out next Wednesday or Thursday, thanksgiving day.
That's if my friend doesn't drag me out and make me stand in line for sales that started a week ago. If she does I'll be sure to post it as she makes me freeze my ass off.
