Echoes of an Ancient Legend

"Written in ancient Hylian text:

Written here is the legend of the young Hero in Green and the Princess of Destiny. What follows is the tale of his journey, the trials he has faced and the victory over Evil at his hands. Written is the Legend of Zelda."

The old lady smiled as she said the name, as if it held some personal meaning for her. She let her eyes gaze over the name, Zelda, before she continued.

"Grandma, wait." A little girl held up her tiny hand in a halting gesture, a confused and questioning look upon her young features. "How can you read that? It's not in English. And what's that funny picture on the front there" Her stubby index finger pointed to three faded golden triangles that were engraved onto the front of the ancient book.

The old lady smiled again and looked at the front of the old book. She let her fingers trace over the image, then laughed a soft and good natured laugh. "That, young one is called the Triforce."

The little girls face lit up. "Cool! What does it do? It's pretty." The little girl found it hard to look away from the image, as if she remembered it from somewhere.

"It can do anything dear, if you have a pure heart. It can make your fondest wish come true." The old lady smiled, then suddenly her face underwent a change and she looked utterly miserable. "But if you have an evil intent…" She let her voice trail off, and her face was suddenly warm and happy again, back to being the little girls Grandma. "Oh, you have me rambling on. It's all in the story. Do you still want to hear it"

"Yes" The little girl yelped as if she'd had a fright. She wanted to hear this story so badly, yet she didn't know why. "Please tell me, I'll be good and won't interrupt anymore." The little girl's back straightened, her face went firm with determination. "I won't say another word."

The old lady smiled again, that warm and gentle smile that reminded the little girl of freshly baked cookies. "Okay dear. It all began years and years ago in a land called Hyrule…"
