"And make sure Korkie doesn't get into trouble while I'm gone," Satine says, giving instructions to her assistant, Ambria.
"Yes, Duchess. But I'm sure everything will be fine while you are gone." Ambria assures her. "You need to calm down. Mandalore will survive without you for a week."
"I know, I'm just always worried about Mandalore ever since the Death Watch has come back," Satine admits.
"Well, try not to worry while you are away, you are after all going to Coruscant to relax and come down. Although, I don't know why you would go to Coruscant of all places." Ambria states, smirking.
"I have a feeling you already know why," Satine says, shaking her head.
"Mhm." Ambria smirks. "Korkie is waiting for you at the landing docks."
"Thank you, Ambria. Comm me if you need any advice for the week. And thank you for taking charge." Satine gratefully says.
"Of course, Satine. I have been your friend for a long time now, it is an honor to be trusted enough to take care of your nephew and Mandalore for a week. Stay safe and be careful, but most importantly, enjoy your time there." Ambria states, smiling.
"Thank you all the same. Goodbye, Ambria." Satine states and heads for the docks.
"Goodbye, Satine."
"Aunt Satine!" Korkie says as Satine comes into view.
"Korkie, thank you for coming to say goodbye," Satine says and hugs him.
"Of course. I heard you were going to Coruscant?" Korkie inquires.
"Yes, I thought it would be nice to take my week off there," Satine explains. "It will be nice seeing my Senate friends there."
"Hm, are sure it's not because of a certain Jedi?" Korkie teases, smirking. Satine stares at him fondly, his smirk reminding her so much of his father.
"You little imp," Satine says, ruffling his hair while Korkie laughs. "Now, while I'm gone, you must behave yourself and listen to whatever Ambria tells you to do, understand?"
"Yes, Aunt Satine, I will listen, but I can't promise anything," Korkie says, mischief twinkling in his eyes, so much like his father, she thinks.
"Good, be safe, Korkie," Satine says and hugs him one more time. "I love you."
"I love you too, Aunt Satine," Korkie says and hugs her back. Oh, how she wishes though that she could be more than Aunt Satine, maybe in another life she could have been mom.
She turns away and boards the ship, waving goodbye to Korkie as he waves back. She'll miss Ambria and Korkie, but at least she'll get to see her Ben.
Satine arrives on a raining Coruscant and her ship lands at Padme's place. She looks out the window and doesn't see Padme come out to greet her. She told Padme she was coming, hopefully, she wasn't interrupting anything.
She walks towards the door and knocks, she hears sniffling from inside, and then the door opens, revealing a crying Padme.
"Oh, Padme. Are you okay? What's going on?" Satine hurriedly says as she rushes into the apartment. Thousands of thoughts race across her mind as she ponders why her friend is crying so badly. Did something happen with Skywalker? Did someone die?
"Satine, Satine," Padme cries. "A Jedi was just killed on Coruscant." Satine looks at her confused, yes, it was sad that a Jedi died, but why was Padme taking it so hard?
"I'm sorry, Padme," Satine says, rubbing her back. "Did you know them?" Padme looks at her, her eyes full of sadness and grief.
"I don't know how to tell you this," Padme admits. Satine stares at her confused and then it dawns on her. She shakes her head and denies whatever Padme is insinuating.
"Who was it, Padme? Who was the Jedi?" Satine insists, her breathing quickening and her heart racing.
"I'm sorry, Satine. I just got the news from Ani otherwise I would have told you sooner." Padme whispers. Satine stares at her and it's like all of a sudden, her world is black, and the sun decided to hide.
"Padme, tell me who died now," Satine demands, tears springing to her eyes.
"I'm so so sorry, Satine. Ani said they were coming back from Dex's and then a bounty hunter shot at them and killed him." Padme admits. Tears fall from her eyes as Padme tells her, yet a small part of her hopes it's a different Jedi that died.
"Who was the Jedi, Padme," Satine whispers, dreading the answer that she knows she'll get.
"I'm sorry, Satine, but the bounty hunter shot Obi-Wan as he was chasing after him," Padme mutters and Satine's world darkens, grief overcoming her, longtime sadness overwhelming her, and cracks shattering her heart.
She gulps down a sob threatening to spill over and nods. "I see. If you'll excuse me."
"Wait, Satine." Padme pleads but she quickly leaves the living room and rushes into the guest bedroom, locking the door behind her as she slides to her knees, sobbing.
The first people that were important to her that she lost were her parents at the age of sixteen, but at that time, while she was running for her life with two Jedi, that's when she met her husband, Obi-Wan, Ben. And that's when they decided to take their vows because tomorrow wasn't promised. Then the time came for Ben to go with his Master and she knew if she had asked him to stay, he would, especially if he knew that she was carrying Korkie, their child. So, she didn't ask him, didn't ask him because she knew he loved being a Jedi and she would never stop him from, doing what he loved.
The second person was Bo, her sister, her sister whom she thought was dead, but just ended up being the leader of the Death Watch, an enemy of Mandalore. Besides her family, her whole life has been surrounded by grief and bloodshed. Yet, she kept going, because she had Korkie and Ben, her two anchors. However, when she returns to Mandalore, she can't grieve, because no one can no they were married, otherwise, she would be killed. So, she can't grieve her long-time husband, she can't grieve the man that owned her heart.
Her heart is shattered now, the man that owned her heart is now dead, and she can't bear to live in a world without her Ben. She wants to scream and cry, and ask the universe, why her? Why must the universe cause her so much pain? Take away one of the things in her life that she loved the most.
But she doesn't, she's a strong and wise Duchess who doesn't show weakness. Although, she's not a Duchess here, no, she's a mother, who will have to explain to her son one day that she kept his father from him, she's a wife, who just lost her husband, her anchor, her light shining in the dark.
She's Satine Kenobi, a woman in grieving.
