"I'd rather not do this right now" by Marlean
It was a full moon that night.
Rey had tried to get some rest the entire night where she lay in the hut on the island on Ahch-To, but the hard, cold stone bench didn't really help her get any sleep. She needed the rest and she needed to recover from the fight she had with Kylo Ren where he had offered to become her teacher and show her the ways of the force. The fight where she could have ended Kylo Rens life, who was wounded and lying on the ground, but instead Ren had turned and ran away, fleeing from Kylo Ren and the dying.
There was so much going on now, so many lives at stake. Rey couldn't believe how much her life had changed in such a short period of time. It was almost as if she hadn't had all those years at Jakku counting the days for her parents to return back home. Mundane days, no one very different from the other. But now... Reys mind was uneasy. This island did look similar to the island in her dreams but now it all felt more like a nightmare. She didn't understand why Luke didn't immediately want to come to their aid and help his sister, Rey and the resistance. They needed all the help they could get!
Slowly the morning sun shone in through the window and Rey gave up on her sleep yet again. Her insomnia issues had been with her for years and were usually due to nightmares where she was searching for something or someone. Her parents maybe? Or the island? She didn't know but the unability to sleep was common and something she had grown used to. There was no use in trying to sleep now when the sun was up, so Rey sat up on the bench. Still caught in an almost dreamlike state Rey got the feeling that she was not alone. There was someone else in the hut with her. At first she thought it might be Luke that had come to give her an early visit but then, no. Shivers went down her spine. She recognized the tall, dark haired and dark clothed man sitting oposite her. It was Kylo Ren.
She could see him tired but recovering from their last fight, getting his face, which she had badly damaged getting stitched up by a medical droid. She could feel that he was regaining his strength quickly and was surprised by how quickly he seemed to be able to move freely after that nasty cut she had given him with the light sabre. His eyes looked surprised all of a sudden and he shooed the droid away. Then, within seconds Rey realized that the reason Kylo Ren looked so surprised was because he could see her too. How could that be? Without much more than a quick thought Rey decided that he wasn't going to get away from her this time. She grabbed the blaster she had in a holster beside her on the bench and aimed it straight at Kylo Ren and fired, almost as a reflex.
The shot echoed loudly in her ears and she saw Kylo Ren flinch and react as if she had met her mark. Did she get him? Was he dying? He looked down towards his torso but then lifted his gaze to meet hers in a state of shock. He looked at her in disbelief. She returned his look in equal disbelief. Was she now a murderer? Was he bleeding out? She didn't think she could kill anyone so easily, but apparently she could. Kylo Ren disappeared from her sight and instead of Kylo Ren Rey saw a big hole in the wall of her hut and ran outside into the sunlight. She searched the force for something, anything, an evidence perhaps that Kylo Ren was dead and found herself turning from east to west but still she felt nothing. No change.
Then, surprisingly again, Kylo Ren was there again, straight in front of her and unharmed by her shot. He was still alive? She didn't know if she should feel relief or disappointment by that. She could see him slide into a hallway and she just knew he could see her too. He looked around himself as if to see if she had anyone else with her that might surround him in this strange force bond that had been created between them and then with a piercing stare he raised his hand in an almost claw like grip to say "You'll bring Luke Skywalker to me." He tried to force her to bring him Luke? The stubborn man she couldn't get anywhere even when she tried? Who did he think he was? She felt that she could resist his telepathy easier this time than she had done onboard his ship when he had been physically close to her. Maybe she was more prepared? She stared back stubbornly and wasn't giving in an inch Kylo Ren this time. He could feel it. He was caught off guard and looked down as he took down his hand immediately. It was no use. She resisted. But how could she? She was stronger than he thought. Kylo Ren said "You're not doing this, the effort would kill you." Kylo Ren was surprised that he actually did care if the stupid girl lived or died now, even though she had tried to kill him just moments ago.
Rey smiled triumphantly, knowing that she had won the fight against him over her mind this time. "Do you see my surroundings" Kylo Ren curiously asked. Rey angrily said "You're going to pay for what you did." Kylo Ren ignored her and continued "I can't see yours." Rey could in fact see the hallways of Kylo Ren's ship around him, but she wasn't going to tell him that. Kylo Ren had never experianced anything like this before and it intrigued him. Who was this girl that could resist him? That he could see as clear as day in the sunlight but with no surroundings around her? "Just you." he said. And what a sight she was! Standing in the sunshine somewhere... in a grey west, green pants and a white top. She had sleeves on her arms and her hair up and her eyes gleemed and he bet that if she could she would have shot lightning bolts out of them to strike him down. Her chest moved up and down as she breathed heavily out of repressed emotions.
"No, this is something else." Kylo Ren pondered at what it might be as he saw Rey turn to something behind her that he couldn't see. He could however see the change in her eyes when she all of a sudden looked panicing. What could be the cause of her panic when it obviously wasn't him? Then he realized… She was with Luke. She knew where Luke Skywalker was. "Luke?" he asked and Rey knew that Kylo Ren knew that she now had found Luke. Rey quickly turned back towards Luke and when she once again looked back at Kylo Ren the vision of him was gone. Only a big hole in the wall of her hut from the blast was there. Puzzled Rey decided to keep her experiance to herself.
"I was cleaning my blaster and it went off" Rey told Luke who seem to have settled for that explanation and then left her alone.
Ren couldn't find herself stop thinking of Kylo Ren and his eyes… those eyes. If she had in fact shot him dead the light in those eyes would have dimmed and disappeared. She went over and over their strange, latest encounter in her mind. The way his tiredness had come upon her, as if she felt what he felt when he felt it. And how at the same time she felt his strength. She had no idea what had happened but believed the force was the cause behind it. Did the force want her to kill Kylo Ren? Make him finally pay for all the deaths he was responsible for? It would explain their strange encounter.
