King Qua watched silently from his palace as the river banks of Myhark bursted from the hard rainy season. The water rushed over the country side destroying all the farms the people of Myhark hard work destroyed. Within ten minutes it reached the city of Myhark as people tried to get to the highest point.
Qua's palace was situated on hill meaning it was safe from the flood. For the past couple years Qua been thinking and experimenting on how to prevent the river from bursting and flooding Myhark and the countryside. He went far and wide to see what others have built this includes nature.
One animal group his eye they seemed to have built walls of sticks to slow down water and after observing these creeks during rainy season what surprised him the most was the fact that it rarely bursted if at all. It also never overflowed.
Which led to his theory that slowing the water down to prevent the moving too fast and destroying the banks. Not only that, he also came up with multiple ways to crush grain more efficiently using the river.
When the flood waters subsided, King Qua went down to the now destroyed Myhark. People looked down this was the second year in a row that the banks had flooded and they believed it was only going to get worse.
But the mere sight of the king raised the people's moral.
He went up to a sentry posted he stood at attention his bronze armor gleamed in the Afternoon Qua sun. The Sentry kneeled at the presence of his king.
"Soldier I want you to gather everybody at town square." He ordered the sentry.
"Yes sir." The sentry responded he got up and began telling everybody to gather at town square.
Within an hour most of all the 10000 people in Myhark gathered at Town Square. Many were wondering what was going on.
"To everybody who has lost something during the great floods of the last few years. Today I have an answer as to why the gods were sending us these floods." Qua said, the people remained silent.
"It is not in spite of our town, or people. Not our works, they were sending us a message. A message telling us to figure out the problem that is before us. The flooding of the Myhark river, the gods, has tasked me personally to find a way to stop the flooding. I myself and you and your families have searched far and wide across the known world and we found a way to stop the flooding from happening!" Qua said, the people seemed to brighten this information.
But there still some doubt on how he could make it work "but how. You can't stop the river goddess' rage!" A commoner in the crowd said.
"I am aware of that but I have a plan to slow her violent outbursts. The plan is to slow down the river itself, I will issue orders to my aides at once and begin construction on a dam. My sides will begin telling you what to do so please. Tell your family members out in the countryside. That king Qua has a plan and needs your help to enact it!" He yelled, silence rained on the crowd but soon a massive cheer from the three thousand person large crowd but it was the start of a new era for Myhark.
Soon afterwards the entire kingdom got to work, as promised plans were issued to everybody. The plan was to build a stone dam that opened periodically along the river which would force the water to slow down. Not only that it could connect the people on the two sides as well.
Three days later the first stone and wood was placed, it took some figuring out how to get the stones down into the river in the spot they wanted without having to go into the river themselves but it worked. Day after day the dam was closer to completion.
5 years later the dam was complete and just in time for the rainy season for the previous years it was already showing a profound effect on flooding as every year it flooded the flooding was less severe. As the dam was being built other more minor projects were being built to such as extending the irrigation ditches for the surrounding rice and wheat farms. There were many luxury items found in the kingdom of Qua's territory and the larger known world.
When the Dam was complete the people wanted the Qua to be declared an emperor. A person chosen by the gods to fix the kingdom's problems.
Soon word about Qua's accomplishment spread around the independent elven kingdoms and tribes. Soon afterwards many wanted to join the Qua kingdom so they too could also get a dam to prevent the almost yearly flooding their towns and cities experience.
Five years after the construction of the dam princess Toyne married Qua. leading to the dominant kingdoms in the continent to be unified into the Empire of Qua-Toyne with the Emperor and Empress Qua-Toyne at the top.
They built a new capital called Qua-Toyne and it became a major beacon of wealth and military power in the continent of Rhodenius.
After the marriage the couple soon had the unified armies turn their attention to barbarians to the south and east. The Emperor's Heavenly Mandate is coming to civilize everybody who's outside of the empire.
