Bushes tugged at the edge of Dynamis's clothes as he made his way to the open field outside the forest. Careful not to trip on roots, he walked along the dirt path formed by animals and campers before him, who had paved the way to the space of emptiness. He could feel twigs starting to dig into his head from the trees above; all of them involuntarily caught by his thick, lilac hair. He rustled it, regretting not taking Zeo's advice of flattening it with hair-clips before leaving the campsite for a solitary walk in the woods, but that was the least of Dynamis's problems.
The time he spent setting up camp with the others and watching Tithi get along with them was all fun, but Dynamis felt restricted under the trees. There were little to no openings to the sky at their campsite. The full night sky was a comfort to the older blader, and he had nothing but a glimpse of the heavens since his arrival to the United States. Pollution and New York's bright lights in the air had obstructed his view, meshing with the clouds and creating a dark, gloomy feeling. Only the moon and the brightest stars were visible, which weren't a lot. Dynamis made no attempt to view the stars the nights after and decided to stay indoors, waiting until their trip outside of the city.
The car to the campsite was tiring, with King, Masamune, and Tithi making as much noise as they possibly could depending on whether it was Zeo or Toby's shift to drive. Most of Dynamis's time was spent looking out the window, watching for hours as they passed cities, towns, and farms. He never got bored of passing the farm animals. A nap was finally possible for about an hour when the three loudmouths finally began to quiet down, and Dynamis had probably the worst nap of his life squished up against the hard, uncomfortable car-door.
When camp was finally set up, Toby whispered to Dynamis about a spot just a short distance from the site that was clear of trees and bush, which Dynamis had thanked him for. Toby smiled at the response, saying he knew Dynamis needed some time to himself from the group's energy.
Jupiter's Blader took a few steps into the field, taking a deep breath of the clear, crisp evening air that was undisturbed by the pungent odor of smog and car fuel, but instead the lingering scent of tree sap and fallen leaves. He continued off the path, walking further towards the center of the field and settled onto the thick grass with a complete view of the sky. The forest was now just in the corner of his eye, and all that mattered to him was the view above him. He'd have to wait some time for the sky to fade into complete darkness from dusk in front of him, but he didn't mind. It was peaceful counting all the objects that would begin to shine as the sun moved farther away.
Such peace was disturbed by two goofballs in the distance running towards him.
.
.
"DYNAMISSSSS!" Tithi yelled as loud as his little lungs could allow him to. His voice got louder as the Venus Blader repeated his name, bolting towards him.
Preparing himself for what questions or random sentences he would face, Dynamis took a breath before turning around and facing the little boy. He was a bit disappointed that his peace was temporarily disrupted, but not in the slightest mad. Back at Mist Mountain, Tithi almost always joined in on his stargazing nights. Dynamis would find himself rambling about history and random facts to him. Sometimes information would go through one ear and out the other, but he couldn't deny that Tithi was a good listener. The ball of energy would end up falling asleep most of those nights, having Dynamis carry him to bed.
Dynamis had no problems with Tithi around, the little guy could match his calm energy in an instant. Though, Dynamis was unsure about King. He hadn't spent much time around Mars's Blader without his other friends. For the most part, he saw King as energetic and rowdy, much like the other bladers his age. Any time he was completely silent was usually when his seemingly limitless energy was drained.
Tithi "crashed" down next to Dynamis's lap, prompting the lilac-haired blader to instinctively begin petting his pink, fluffy hair.
"How did you find me?" Dynamis softly spoke with a smile.
"I'll always know where you'll be!" Tithi exclaimed, rolling onto his back.
"He begged Toby to tell him," King laughed, finally approaching the two. "And I followed to make sure he didn't get lost in the woods." He also gave Tithi a pat on the head before settling down next to them.
.
"Do you enjoy stargazing too, King?" Dynamis asked as he watched King turn his head up to the sky looking like he was searching for something.
"Probably not as much as you do," King replied, not wavering his gaze. "But, back in Greece I had nothing much else to do than look at the sky sometimes." He shifted to lay on his back as well.
"Sometimes I'd spend hours looking at the stars," King continued. "People in my village used to say that the stars could tell you your future, or something like that. I kinda wish I got some sort of answer from them after staring at them for so long, for what I was supposed to do or what my future was gonna be like." He drifted his attention from space and turned his head towards Dynamis. "You can read what stars and stuff say, right? They told you about all the Star Fragment n' all?"
Dynamis exhaled. "The stars don't tell us everything. They more, I guess in your terms, scatter stuff around and you piece it together yourself." He looked down at Tithi who began fiddling with the ends of his clothes.
"Though, there are times when the heavens go silent," Dynamis spoke, a hint of sadness in his voice. "It's discouraging when they cease to bestow their signs."
King sat up from the grass. "Is there something wrong with them?" he asked.
"No, no," Dynamis reassured. "It's just that I haven't been able to accumulate a sense of direction from them: where I'm supposed to go from now." He paused, deciding whether he wanted to share more with Mars's blader.
.
"All my life I've spent knowing what my purpose would be, and how I had to prepare myself for my destiny," Dynamis sighed. "Now that my responsibilities have passed, and Nemesis has been defeated once again, I hoped I would receive a new purpose. But I've gathered nothing since the incidents. The path I've walked for years has come to an end, and I'm not sure what to do now."
King listened patiently; eyebrows slightly furrowed concentrating on what to say next. He looked back up to the sky that had darkened and began to glow, then to his friend.
"I don't think I can fit myself in your shoes, but maybe you can find yourself a new path," King suggested. "Make one up. From what you're saying, you're pretty much free from your duties now. It's what I've been doing."
Dynamis's eyes widened at the other's seemingly simple words but appreciated his carefree attitude.
.
"What's your path like?" Tithi asked King.
"My path is to fu- uh, to mess around and find out," King stumbled, catching his swear in front of the younger blader. Tithi giggled whilst Dynamis issued a glare.
.
"I'll consider that," Dynamis smiled, observing the darkness sprinkled with light for what felt like the first time in years.
It was lovely, seeing the stars from a different perspective.
