As she finishes her rounds in the forest surrounding the Resistance Base, Rey smiles at the trees and wildlife. She knows this base is only temporary as they search for a more permanent base far away from the prying eyes of the First Order. But Rey can't help but feel joy at the beauty here on Batuu. While walking through the forest, she tries connecting with the Jedi of the past.
"Be with me…be with me…be with me…" she repeats over and over in a soft voice.
As usual, no one responds. Rey huffs a frustrated breath. She knows it may take some time, as Leia has told her. But Rey can't help but be anxious to further her training. As the First Order grows stronger, she needs to grow too. Part of her wishes she didn't have this burden of being the most important asset to the Resistance. Rey loves her friends and is very thankful to have been taken under Leia's tutelage. But she longs to be with…
No, she can't even say it. He made his choice. The man she confided in, the man she put her life on the line for chose the First Order, not her. The pain is still fresh since she last saw him on Crait. Rey didn't want to shut off their bond. It is the first time she has felt a true sense of home. But knowing he put the First Order and ruling the galaxy over her even when he said to let the past die, she knows she can't be with him as much as it breaks her heart.
Rey makes her way back through the entrance to the Resistance Base. She waves to a few of her colleagues, trying to forget about the Supreme Leader. Oddly enough, she feels him as she continues moving through the base. It seems impossible to her since she has closed the bond between them. But as she continues walking, she hears him.
"Rey!" the voice rings out across the base.
She stops in her tracks. Her heart races as his voice fills her soul and the bond between them breaks open. Before she can think of what to say or do, she feels a bare hand grab her own. It's firm yet tender as she is whirled around and drawn in for a kiss. Gasps abound from the people around them.
"The Supreme Leader! It's the Supreme Leader!" voices ring out around them.
