Ok, this is a story of Caroline-Klaus-Camille love triangle. I tried to stay true to both ships as I actually love both Klamille and Klaroline, but I don't know how well I'm gonna succeed. Starting this, I haven't yet figured out, which one is the end game. Yet.
It starts off with TO Christmas episode but in this story Camille's and Klaus' night doesn't end with Camille's suicide. She is very much a human at the start of it. Then Caroline flies into town needing, of course, Klaus' help.
And sorry if everything isn't like on TVD with the Cruz' storyline. I hardly remember why Caroline went to NO but i searched the internet and used as much of it here as i could.
The title is stupid, I know, but bear with me.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Klaus asked Camille.
"I was just thinking about you and what Rebekah said. Is it true that you see me as this fragile thing that should be kept away under glass?" Camille answered with a question of her own.
"Camille, you can be sure that I do not wish to watch you from behind glass." Klaus assured Camille.
"What do you wish?"
Then he didn't answer her but went in to kiss her for the very first time which he had wanted to do countless times before but had always refused himself because he saw love as a weakness. And Camille really was fragile, so fragile that his enemies could use her to hurt him. But in that moment he realised that it didn't matter, it was worth it. And he was gonna do everything in his power to protect her from the Big Bad World.
When they broke the kiss, they were both smiling at each other. Then they went to the lie on the bed.
Being in his arms felt so good. Being there and kissing him and undressing him, she thought to herself, why the hell it hadn't happened before. Why did she play the-hard-to-get for so long? It was what they both wanted, then why did it take for three years to happen.
She didn't know the answer but she knew that she was going to enjoy every second of the first night they spent together.
She also didn't know anything about another blonde from Klaus' past who came to the bar she worked at the following day, asking about the Original hybrid.
"So do they pay you for that?" Camille asked a brunette who was letting her blood flow from her wrist to a glass when she was relaxing at the compound in their living room.
"Quite handsomely, with generous Christmas bonuses" Klaus answered for the girl.
"So you pay the girls to feed you and agree to whatever you say?" she asked.
"No, I pay them to feed me. They can say what ever the hell they want."
Camille genuinely laughed at that and he thought that he couldn't be happier than in that moment. He had consummated his relationship with her the night before and things were going so well. Yes, Aurora was still at large with his brother. And there was always the prophecy, but other than that, things couldn't have been better.
Just then he received a phone call.
"Hmm, it's Rousseau's, wonder what they want…"
"Probably want me to go to work."
"Well, you can't."
Camille was starting to get angry but then decided it was not worth it. "Just answer you phone, Klaus."
Camille only heard Klaus' side of the conversation.
"You are kidding me? Is this some kind of a joke?"
"No, don't send her away."
'That doesn't seem to be about me at all' Camille thought to herself.
"Okay, I'm on my way."
"Cami, love, I have to go. A friend of mine is in town and I need to go talk to her."
"It isn't yet another one of your exes, right?"
"No, Caroline is… a long story. We'll talk about it when I get back. In the meantime, please stay in the compound which is protected by magic and I'll call Hayley to keep you company."
"No, Klaus, I don't need a babysitter."
Then Klaus looked at her with his stern look that didn't allow a debate on the matter.
"Ok, Klaus, I'll be here with Hayley, protected by her and your sister's magic."
"Thank you." With that he gave her a quick kiss on the lips and left the compound.
Interesting place to hang out, Caroline thought to herself. Stefan had said that it's a place where all magic is void and you can't be traced there. That's exactly what she needed. That and Klaus' help.
'But maybe he's over me' she thought
"Omg, what if he's over me. Then I'm as good as dead." She said it out loud and started to panic, just as someone sat next to her at the bar and without looking she knew it was Him.
"Relax, sweetheart, I may be over you but I would never let anybody hurt you."
And she looked at the man sitting next to her, who was smiling at her.
"Hi, Klaus" she relaxed visibly and smiled back.
He ordered himself a drink, telling the bartender to keep the bourbon flowing for both of them. He had a feeling that it was a long conversation.
"So, want to tell me, what trouble have you gotten yourself into?"
"Does the name, Rayna Cruz, mean anything to you?" Caroline asked cautiously.
Klaus startled her, by breaking a glass he was holding with his bare hands after which he stood up, turned to her and almost yelled, "Please tell me you haven't been careless enough to make an enemy out of the huntress Rayna Cruz?"
"I got stabbed by her sword during a battle me and my friends had with her. I was just protecting them."
"And that makes it OK!?" He yelled at her and then continued with a calmer voice, "Caroline, love, you don't know the extent of the trouble you are in. Rayna Cruz doesn't stop at nothing, she doesn't stop until you are dead."
"You are like text book with arms. I know that. Why do you think I was panicking just 5 minutes ago."
"Bloody hell," he started walking circles in the bar, rubbing his face with his hands, clearly deep in thought.
Finally he looked at her, realising something, "I might have a temporary solution but it's just that, it's not a permanent thing"
"I'm desperate, so I'll try anything. I have other people in my life now who need me alive"
"Oh, yes, your friends…"
"I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about my daughters, Klaus."
"Your, WHAT?"
"My twin daughters that I parent with Rick."
"What the bloody hell are you talking about, Caroline?" Klaus asked, dumbfounded.
"Sit down, we have a lot to talk about. There years worth of material to talk through."
So they sat down and Caroline started from the beginning, how after he left Mystic Falls for good she fell for Stefan, how he was the reason she didn't get to spend her last moments with her mother. How she died of cancer.
"Oh, yes, cancer is one of the few things that vampire blood can't fix. Unfortunately. Caroline, I'm really sorry to hear about your mother. I know she meant everything to you."
"Until that point, yes. But now there's two infants who depend on me and it's killing me to be away from them."
"Yes I know the feeling all too well. So how did you have kids with Alaric Saltzman. A regrettable one night stand?" he amused.
"Ew, no. They belong to the Gemini coven. Yes, you have heard of them. They were currently in their biological mother's womb when her brother killed her during the wedding. Wedding in which the mother Jo was marrying Alaric, their father. But with their life in danger, they were put inside my womb for protection. The last members of the Gemini coven. They needed to be protected."
Klaus listened to her story, growing ever more shocked.
"You know, Caroline, In thousand years I have heard and seen a lot, my own daughter is quite a story, but your story, that's something else entirely."
"I'm glad it amuses you."
"So you are raising those babies with Alaric now. But you two aren't a couple judging by the reaction you just had?"
"No, Rick's a great father and a great friend but that's all. I'm with Stefan now."
"You are with…" and then Klaus couldn't help but laugh.
"And how does Stefan feel about you raising another man's babies. Where does he fit in?"
"You know, Klaus, it's the 21st century, a lot of women aren't together with their baby's fathers and they manage somehow."
"Yes, other people may manage it, but Stefan Salvatore…he's weak, I'm not so sure that he is able to share you with anyone else. Even if they are two innocent babies. And their daddy."
"You know what, Klaus, shut up. Please. I have enough problems, I don't need your doubts on top of them. Change of topic, you promised to help me. I assume you want something in exchange?"
Klaus just shook his head in disbelief, "You haven't changed a bit, Caroline. Always thinking the worst of me. What I want in exchange, is for you to go back to Mystic Falls and be happy for once."
"I'm sorry, Klaus. And it's a deal."
"Ok, then let's go, love. I just got a message from my dear sister and she's at home now: We are going to meet her there. But there's one thing we need to discuss."
"And what's that?"
"That I'm with somebody now too and that somebody's life is in danger so she stays with me for the time being. Is that going to be a problem for you."
Caroline was surprised to hear that. Not that it would be surprising to find a woman in Klaus' bed but that it was someone so important that he would tell her about it. The man who didn't discuss his private life with anyone.
"None, what so ever." She lied. "You can tell me in the car what trouble you have gotten yourself into."
And Klaus just laughed genuinely.
Hayley, Camille and Freya were sitting in the living room, waiting for Klaus to arrive with Caroline.
"Hayley, you know who this woman is and what trouble she's in?" Camille asked.
"No. I mean yes, I know her but I don't know a thing about her problems. We weren't exactly close friends when I stayed in Mystic Falls for a short time. But, um, Klaus was very smitten with her at the time."
As Hayley saw how Camille's face fell at hearing that, she quickly added, "But it's ancient history, I'm pretty sure that he's over her by now. I mean, I know how much Klaus loves you."
"Yeah." Was all she could say, before Klaus stormed in with a pretty blonde. Something about her was oddly familiar, Camille thought to herself. It was only later, that she understood that Caroline resembled very much herself.
"Oh, good. you are all here." Klaus said, coming into the room. "Caroline, you remember Hayley, right? This is my dear sister Freya who I hope can help you with this predicament you are in. And there, sitting on the couch is Camille, who I told you about in the car."
What did she tell her about me?
"Everybody, this is Caroline, my good friend from Mystic Falls."
Then he told Freya all about Rayna Cruz, but unfortunately his sister didn't know what to do either.
"I'm sorry, Klaus, but I don't have a solution. The ointment you are talking about is a good idea, but I don't have all the ingredients. I'm missing a key ingredient that's very hard to come by. I can make some calls, maybe Vincent or the other witches know where to get it. But I wouldn't get my hopes up. In the meantime, I suggest Caroline stay here as the place is already cloaked."
"Freya, come with me for a second," Klaus hissed. And he took her far away form others so that no one, especially those with vampire hearing, could hear his conversation with his dear sister.
"If you'll excuse me, I have to go check on my husband and my daughter," with that Hayley left Caroline and Camille alone.
"I wonder what's that about," Camille laughed, trying to make a conversation with the other blonde.
"I think she doesn't want to be away from Hope for too long."
"No, I meant Klaus and Freya."
"Oh, that. That's just Klaus being Klaus. I mean having his current lover and his ex-lover under one roof at the same time, that's quite a lot, even for Klaus."
Camille laughed at that, " So you and Klaus, used to have thing?"
"Well, he did chase me around the whole time he stayed in mystic falls. We were natural enemies, there couldn't be anything between us. But…"
"But?"
"But it's complicated, Camille. Let's leave it that, shall we. I mean we have both moved on. Klaus with you and I have also moved on with someone. So you really have nothing to worry about."
Camille just smile at her politely and their conversation was cut short by Klaus returning without Freya.
"Caroline, Freya is calling her friends about the ingredient and we'll have it all sorted out soon enough but until then you are welcome to stay here. You're safe here, for the time being."
"Are you sure, Klaus? I don't want to intrude."
"Nonsense. The doors to my home are always open to my friends which I consider you to be. So, I'm gonna show you to your room. It used to be Kol's, it's really nice and comfortable."
"Ok, thank you."
