Chapter 2

-Nino-

I stared at his hand, unsure of what to do with it, until I finally shook it. "Sure, if that's alright with you, Mr. President..."

He smiled, "No need to be so formal, we're both in the same grade after all."

"Then should I call you Uesugi-san?"

"That's... probably not the best thing to call me. Just call me Shin, would it be alright if I call you Nino?"

"I don't really mind, and what do you mean by that? Wouldn't it be better calling you by your last name? We just met after all, it would be weird if I suddenly start calling you by your first name…"

He laughed and said "Nah, it's all good, you'll see soon enough anyway. So why don't we get moving? The campus isn't too far from here."

"Alright, lead the way then, Shin." I said with a smile. I followed Shin through the streets of the unfamiliar area.

Shin whistled as we walked through the crowded streets, "So... if you don't mind me asking, what made you transfer to Asashiyama High?"

"Oh... well let's just say that my old high school's academic standards just didn't match my abilities."

He raised an eyebrow, "So you were too smart for your old school? Hopefully Asashiyama High can meet your standards then!"

With a nervous laugh, I sigh "No Shin, you've got it backwards. I wasn't smart enough to stay there, aside from social studies I failed every other subject I took, so I was forced to transfer here." I then realized what I said, "Not that it's bad or anything! If anything, Asashiyama High looks wonderful based on what I could find on the net!"

Shin stared at me and laughed, "I'm glad you think that way! Asashiyama's a good school, I can promise you that much. And if it helps, I can help you study whenever we have free time."

I shook my head, "No! that's fine. My papa hired five tutors for me already, so I think I'm good at that front. I appreciate the offer though!"

A smirk showed on his face for a moment, "I see... five tutors huh? Let me guess, each one of them is supposed to specialize in one specific subject?"

I nodded, "Yeah...How did you know?"

"Let's just say that I'm an intuitive kind of guy" he said with a smile before stopping at a huge gate with tons of other students entering it. "And here we are, welcome to Asashiyama High! We got 20 minutes till classes start so I guess I can bring you to your classroom, what class are you in?"

"I'm in class 2-B, and I appreciate your offer, but I think I can go there on my own, you must be busy with your student council duties after all. Guess I'll see you around then?"

Shin looked a little upset, but smiled. "For sure, feel free to drop by the student council office if you need any help! It's on the first floor on the east wing, it's not too hard to find. See you soon!" he then walked towards the main building and caught up with four other boys who I assumed were his friends, but something felt off about them, I just couldn't tell what it was since I couldn't get a good look at them. I guess I'll ask Shin about it the next time I saw him.

After a few minutes of exploring, I finally found my classroom. I sat at the corner as to not draw that much attention and waited for homeroom to start. A couple minutes later the door opened, revealing Shin, although he looked a bit different. His hair was now black and wasn't slicked back, perhaps he can't show his true hair color at school and had to wear a wig? But it didn't explain why his hair and upper half of his uniform were wet...

He then approached me, the smile he was showing earlier this morning clearly wasn't there anymore. "Hi Shin! Why didn't you tell me we were in the same class? Thanks again for—" was all I could say before he walked right past me and sat in beside me. He took out what seemed to be flashcards and started studying, completely ignoring everything that was happening around him. "I guess someone's a little busy..." I said as I put my head down, hoping that no one would see how embarrassed I was to be ignored by the student council president.
