The fourth of fifth song fics from Evita. It's not technically meant to be a series, like a story or anything, but they do go in order so that you can get the happiest last. Ok, so none of them are entirely happy, but that's good for you.
In this fic I was exploring the animosity all must feel for Rachel after she 'did what had to be done'. Ooh! I love tough choices! And, of course, of Tobias's devotion to her throughout their lives together, and their own tragic love story.
As always! These fics are meant to be read to their corresponding music to get the full effect (I'm told that goosebumps are possible), but if you hum it to yourself or even just read it blankly you'll get the general idea.

(Tobias) Where do we go from here?
"You crossed it!" Jake shrieked at her. "This was the line, and you crossed it, Rachel!"
This isn't where…We intended to be…
Rachel looked around at their hateful faces. At me.
"I did what had to be done, Jake. I did what had to be done…"
We had it all…
(You were perfect, Rachel…how did you end up here?)
(Flashback Rachel) You believed in me…I believed in you…(End flashback)

Certainties disappear…
"I don't know anymore, Tobias. I just don't know…"

I gave up hope after that. The fleet was never going to come. We were going to die fighting for a planet that doesn't even know our names…and Rachel? She was already dead to the world…
