Trapped

Summary: Young Legolas gets in an accident that only his father can get him out of.
The sun glowed softly on the horizon as it began to rise. Its gentle warmth covered Middle Earth. The forests of Mirkwood shone with the dew of the night before and everything was quiet.
"ADA!" a shrill scream broke the silence suddenly. King Thranduil bolted up in his bed blinking groggily.
"ADA!" the scream echoed through the empty hall again, and suddenly Thranduil placed the voice as belonging to Legolas. The King panicked and leapt out of bed, pulling on a robe as he rushed down the still dark halls.
He froze when he found his son. The young prince had his head stuck between two balusters and was absolutely terrified; bright tears streamed down his face.
"Ada!" he cried out when he saw his father. Thranduil stood still for a moment more before running to his son.
"Can you pull your head through?" he asked quickly looking at his wide-eyed son.
"No.," the elfling sobbed miserably.
"I'll be back!" Thranduil rushed down the stairs ignoring the elves walking out of their rooms, confused. He ran to the tool closet and yanked the door open. It only took a moment before he found what he wanted, a saw. With a small smile he raced back up the stairs and to Legolas.
"NO! YOU'RE NOT CUTTING MY HEAD OFF!" the young elf screamed when the King placed the saw on the banister.
"I'm not cutting your head off. I'm sawing the baluster." Thranduil said gently, trying desperately to calm his son.
"No, you're going to leave me to die! I'm going to starve." He began to sob and Thranduil decided this would be a good time to start sawing. Quickly working through the wood, he pulled the cut pieces out, giving Legolas enough room to slide his head out.
The young elf fell on his back in a daze and the small crowd of elves burst into laughter and Thranduil felt his ears begin to burn.
"Stop laughing! My Ada saved my life!" the elfling said, causing Thranduil to spin around sharply, grab his son, and walk down the stairs before the elves could say anything.
The End
