The new goddess Chapter One-Helen's arrival It was a typical morning at Olympus. Aphrodite the goddess of love and beauty was talking with the three Graces about the latest Greek fashions and Athena the goddess of wisdom was reading a book while she sat on her silver throne. Artemis the moon goddess and her twin brother Apollo the sun god were discussing matters of hunting. Hera the queen of gods who is also goddess of marriage was giving orders to her messenger Iris the rainbow goddess to check the mortals of Argos, Sparta, Mycenae, Sicyon, and Corinth to see if they are well, and assist them if they needed help. Hebe the goddess of youth who is daughter of Zeus and Hera was feeding her father Zeus's pet eagle and her mother Hera's pet peacock. Zeus was signaling to Ganymede the new cupbearer of the gods to summon in someone, and Ganymede had obeyed. Zeus cleared his throat, and every god and goddess eyed him. "We have a new goddess joining us. She will be given a throne between Athena and Aphrodite." The gods and goddesses murmured amongst themselves and soon a young woman with golden hair, clear blue eyes, and rosy lips and fair white skin appeared. She was Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, wife of Menelaus the king of Sparta. The woman who caused the Trojan War. The woman whose face launched a thousand ships. Helen is daughter of Zeus and Leda. The other gods and goddesses stared at her in astonishment. Only Aphrodite the goddess of love and beauty who always liked Helen, grinned at her. Zeus smiled at his apotheosed daughter. "Yes, my daughter Helen is now a goddess. She will preside over sailors as goddess of sailors, and her throne will be between Athena and Aphrodite. Ganymede has given her nectar and ambrosia like what I bid him earlier, so let's give a welcome to Helen." The gods and goddesses applauded, but not happily. Only Aphrodite applauded enthusiastically. "Hephaestus, bring in Helen's throne." Zeus ordered. Hephaestus the blacksmith god obeyed his father and brought in a throne made of crystal, inlaid with all different kinds of jewels. Next to Hera's, it was the most beautiful throne on Olympus. Helen shyly sat down on it, the seat was covered with deerskin. Aphrodite smiled at her. Later on, Hera, Hestia, Demeter, Artemis, and Athena met up with Irene, Dike, Eunomia, who are the three Hora the daughters of Zeus and Themis the goddess of justice to discuss the matters. "It's not fair Helen has to become a goddess, after what she did!" Hera cried. The other goddesses nodded in agreement. "She has let so many noble Trojans be driven into the dust." Artemis replied, "As well as so many noble Greeks." Athena and Hera said in unison. "Why do you think father did this?" Artemis asked. "Well, Orestes was angry with Helen for what she did to the Greeks and tried to kill her, so father snatched her and brought her to heaven just in time." Athena explained. Irene the goddess of peace eyed her sisters Dike the goddess of justice and Eunomia the goddess of good order. "Well? Do you think it's fair?" She asked. "I don't think so. This isn't justice. Helen did not do anything to win a position here." Dike said. Eunomia nodded in agreement. "And it's not worth anything if Helen did not win a position. What is there for her to be proud of, when she gets an honor but she did not earn it." Athena pointed out. "So, we should convince father that Helen isn't worthy to live here?" Artemis asked. The other goddesses nodded, and they huddled together and began their planning. Chapter Two is coming soon. Please read and review!
