The Eye of Ra
The rebellion was over. Ra had left earth and the people were once again free. This time they had managed to keep the Stargate on earth. Daniel stood at the top of a sand dune, the gentle wind ruffling his robes as he watched the men laying the last cover stone on top of the Stargate they had just buried.
He enjoyed living in Giza in this time period. It felt like home to him. After all he did grow up in Egypt while his parents were working on digs as well as the happy time he had spent on Abydos living with Shar'e. Daniel smiled as he thought of how the others were handling it. Jack kept going on about how many episodes of the Simpsons he had missed. Sam missed the high tech lifestyle. In spite of the logical drawbacks to living here, they seemed to have not lost any time in developing their relationship. It seemed to be quite a good trade off. This Teal'c was still very much a jaffa. The first Teal'c had gradually got used to living with humans and had developed quite a sense of humour. Daniel wondered if this Teal'c would enjoy Star Wars as much as his predecessor.
Daniel's hand went subconsciously to his neck. He felt the comforting familiarity of 'the eye of Ra' hanging round his neck. He always wore it now. It reminded him of some of the important things that had happened in his life. Catherine gave it to him for good luck on his first trip through the gate. He remembered Kasuf's reaction to it when they arrived in Abydos all those years ago culminated by his marriage to Shar'e. Ra's interest in it had saved his life. How he had given it back to Catherine when he had lost his wife and returned to earth. It had come full circle when he received the medallion again from her niece at Catherine's funeral. Her legacy to him was what started this whole crazy time travel adventure in the first place.
He suddenly had a thought. The eye of Ra was found on the dig at Giza by the team led by Catherine's father in the 1930's. Maybe that's what was still missing from the time line? It needed to be there so that it could be found in the future. Daniel slithered down the sand to the place where the gate had just been buried. One of the tribesmen was passing on his way home carrying a digging tool. He gave it to Daniel in response to his request. Carefully he began to dig round the edge of the stone making a small but deep hole.
He took of the necklace and held it over the hole ready to drop it in. What would happen when he did? Would time reset itself making himself and his friends disappear? Would anything change at all?
There was no way of knowing. He just knew it was the right thing to do. Slowly he let the chain slip through his fingers……….
